How We Met

Cimarron was a gift horse. He was an accidental baby, and he spent the first eight years of his life wild and untrained. My aunt obtained possession of him, and she spent a lot of time working with Cimarron. He acted feral - he bucked and tried to cow-kick his riders. Rather than enter a horse trailer, he repeatedly reared up and flipped over backward, beating himself up in the process. Cimarron eventually quieted down and served as a packhorse for many years. I met him in November 2007, and in July 2008, Cimarron injured himself in the pasture. He subsequently retired from packing and has been my treasured friend ever since..

Hi Cimarron, sorry to hear it's so hot there lately and not so fun to run in. We've had a fairly mild summer here. There's definitely been some hot days, but thankfully the 80s seem to be pretty consistent and not 90s! We just got our wedding video and photos back last week and this week! So exciting to relive the day. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Good Morning!! Sold 25, (really 27) baby chicks and 6 keets, (baby guinea hens) yesterday. So have enough money now to buy feed, and some small square bales of hay. I leave the computer on, and as I come and go in and out the house, stop and leave a vote here and there. Been very busy, with gardening, making a bigger pen for the keets, and helping Mike check the hay field fencing, then keep a eye on the steers, and horses and ponies as the find a big 10 acre field to really open up and run. My brother invited us over for a cook out last night, because my brother is home from Alaska with his family. It's been raining and very muddy again, like the kind of mud that likes to "suck your boots off".

Hey, Big C is almost up to vote #3000! Cool. Glad he's doing so well. That was nice of you to share him sunday. Does that girl live in one of those houses along the pasture? I wondered if you have any trouble or any company from those folks.
Yeah, it's so hard to juggle life and horses. My niece isn't getting hardly any horse time either between school, work, and a boyfriend. She feeds on the days I work, but I don't think she's hardly ever riding, maybe once or twice a month. She doesn't like that situation either, and she lives a lot closer than you do from Cimarron. Seasons of life change; one day you'll get more ride time.
That's a good question, if Allie is cranky or scared while loping. I think it's more scared because of the time she bolted and I had to really crank down on her mouth to stop her. So that's why I'm riding in a halter until she learns to give to pressure and loping in the roundpen so I don't have to steer or worry about her getting in a runaway situation. It seems to be working so far, I'm just not sure how I'm going to transition safely to loping outside the roundpen.
Well, I'd better get ready for work. Hope you have a great hump-day.

Sunday morning vote for you from Whisper, Willow and the little herd. Rain finally left....also left too much mud and big puddles everywhere, and very cool temps....has not been above 65 yesterday and should not get too high today. Nice for working outside, but today is Sunday, and we visit with my Mom for a few hours after dinner. My brother from Alaska is/should be home today, always nice to visit with him and his wife, Cindy and the rest of his family.

♡ so far we have received 5” of rain. Things are very muddy around the property. The humidity has been high and temps down but it doesn’t help. I’d rather have it hot and dry then like this. We are fine, we've gotten a little rain the last couple of days and it's been good to have. I'm still loping Allie in the roundpen. She doesn't like it but she's staying pretty calm and is usually ready to stop when I say whoa.
Well, hope you have a great weekend. Take care.

Sure was wrong about yesterdays temp, it was hot or maybe just because I was trying to get things done outside. Today it is raining, and should rain on and off all weekend. Maybe...that's a hint of maybe, I will get some house cleaning done. Dishes count for cleaning....maybe I will just leave the cobwebs up until Halloween...if stores can be putting out Christmas decoration early, I will just have to start early for Halloween. Actually, started a few fall projects already. Where the turtle pond was, I am filling that deep hole with veggie scraps and lawn grass that I missed when feeding the grass clippings to the pigs, chicks, and baby guineas....they think its candy, or act like it, when I sprinkle it on the floors. I have saved totes of very dry grass clipping for the winter to line the floors of chicken pens and nest. But I want to plant tulips and fall bulbs in the hole, then put a more flowers over the top....but I can not spell the flower./// I can see what I want in my head....hee, hee.

Not the first time that Sadie's turned on the water. I'm sure it won't be the last time, either. If she thinks about it, she'll do it, again. The only way to keep her from it is to keep her put up. I let her out to get some exercise. She's too sociable to stay in the corral all the time. She amuses me. Love and a it's raining vote.

I am trying to figure out a way to make stalls in the back of the shed. Can not be permanent, because never know what else has to be back there. We have a large wire cage, 12x14 x 6 ft high, for guinea, or now little chicks. Have large rabbit cages about 4ft off the ground, but still enough room for 2 12 x 12 pens made from gates or panels, but they are 5 ft high or better, and I have to crawl up over them or unhinged them. I keep think of making them smaller with a wooden gate on hinges. Ponies do not have to be in all day in the winter, but its nice to have a place to bring them in and brush or (treat them if needed.)
Finished cutting all the burdock or cock-burs down yesterday, have two large piles to burn after they are dryer. I know of a few here and there yet to bring over to these piles, but the area they were in, is a spot my son, puts all his scrap metal before he turns it in. Prices are very low right now, and its 60 miles just to turn it in, so he has to wait until it goes back up. Stay cool, our temps are just prefect this morning 59, and should not go up too much today.

Morning temps have been in the 50's and sure feels good, but by afternoon its in the 80's. If I can get some of the hard jobs done in the morning is better. Yep, no one wants to go to the Ladysmith Hospital if they can help it. Now, Mikey has a appointment early Sept. for MRI on his foot/toe to make sure infection has not spread....same infection Ladysmith said was not there....but his friend sent me a message, that they took off the big black scrabs....about small dime size, and his toe nail, and his toe now looks like a real toe. She said it looked good to her. So now I pray some more.

Cliff is adding the sides to the top cover and framed the north side, so we will put up the north wall when the weather permits. We will add the east wall the end of Sept. He will then put the metal all the way around. We are using the materials that we salvaged from the other barn for his stall. We had to buy 2- 16' 2x6's so I thought that was good on the money side so far. Work has been busy from evaluation time, cleaning of a unit here that was refurbished to house our rehab unit from the other campus, moving the unit from the old hospital campus to this location. Our other campus is closing for good. It was first opened in 1920! Plus all the other things like totally high census! Have a wonderful day ♡

I turned on the sprinkler for Sadie, Monday. She backed that big butt up to it, then laid down and rolled. Scruffy always gets happy when he sees her do that. He ran up to her behind, barking. Hi Cimarron, here's a vote for ya. Good to hear from you. How's Cimarron doing now? All his cuts and scrapes all healed and that shoulder of his? Well so much for the cooling off! It was a little better around noontime, only about 80 and a mild breeze. So I opted for turning them out rather than working them. They needed pasture time and mental time! Lasted about 75 minutes and the breeze left, humidity set in with tons of flies! The two yella ones were running like nut cases! Got Bullseye out of the way, he was in the walk to barn pasture. Then got Paige, she was hot and full of flies, poor Indy was the worst, he sweats so easily! I let them drink and then took them up one at a time of cold hose hoof! Finished that and decided that Bullseye is really due to have his feet trimmed. So got out my tools and cross tied him right next to the fan. I worked up a worse sweat! But his little hooves look great! Mowed two pastures, just about done with things and getting ready to leave on Wed for our last horse show! Marion and the blondes.

Awe Monday, not sure what to do first. Chores are done, need to move the white guineas into the other pen, (getting ready for winter, UGH!!) but they need time to adjust to a different pen and house. After both little dogs went home, I need to wash all their blankets and pads, so they are ready when those little guys return. My cats miss them already. Tomatoes are finally getting ripe, and more cockburrs need chopping down....some of them I feel like hollowing "TIMBER" when they fall. Finish moving the turtle pen into the barn for the baby keets too. Mike has taken Mikey to another dr appointment for his toe, the big sores are infected, even if the drs at Ladysmith say it looks good, I say it needs a "real" doctor to look at it, because it is infected. That's why no one likes going the the Ladysmith Hospital, when a sore has pus, smells, and red....that is what is called infection and needs to be treated.....a patient should not have to beg to get some sort of antibiotics for it.

I had a long talk with Mistit while I brushed her, she just kept nodding her head agreeing with me, about it time to have that baby.....its been a long summer, on baby watch.
Sunday vote from Whisper, Willow and the little herd for you. NIce out today....so far...getting some jobs done outside, that usually is too hot out in the morning to do. Trying to move the turtle cage out to the shed for the little keets, because they are out growing their rabbit cage. The turtle cage is about 5 feet high, 4 ft wide and 10-12 ft long, and no bottom, so they can learn to scratch in the dirt. Because its made from chicken wire, I can put long sticks in for roosts, also put branches, and plants so that they learn to hide in the grasses. I feed them clover and grasses now, but cut it up with the scissors. They are too small to be out with the little chicks, yet. The keets have one fault, they hide their little heads into a hole....like between the hay bales, when being picked on, thinking they can not be seen, but they do not know how to move backwards, only forwards, so they get deep between the bales and die. They are a very smart bird...except for that one stupid fault. So I keep them safe until they are older. Most are spoken for except for the ones I will keep...some different colors than what I have now

Some good new on Mistit...her milk is now yellow, before it was just white coloring. Still keep her separated at night, just incase. Rainy again today, but not a all day rain, but enough to make everything sticky and humidity sort of bad. Try to chop down "cock-bur or burdock" this morning, and some are getting like little trees. Like to do them just before they seed out, it is like a small ball of sticky seeds which get in the horses manes and tails, and nearly impossible to get out.

Hi, how's your week been? Did you get any horse time? Did you get to ride? How did big C do? How's work?
My week was fine, I had a lot of days off clumped together and rode every morning except one, loved it. I put the roundpen back up so I can try loping Allie in a controlled situation. Don't know if you remember, loping was where she got overly excited and bolted with me and later bucked my niece off. She's a little tense in the roundpen so I'm waiting till she's quiet and confident before asking to lope. I think that's the hardest thing about training a horse, waiting until they're ready for something, not doing it just cause you're ready to do it. Patience is tough.
Well, gonna head out now before it gets too hot. Have a great weekend. Take care.

So thankful for Sadie's shade. She is, too. I've got a small wall on the west side, about 6 feet wide. Going to wall up the north side when the the weather cools down. Don't know if Sadie uses the wall to block the blowing sand. She uses the shade when the sun is hot and when it rains. Plays in her water trough to cool down. The fly mask protects her eyes from flies and blowing dust and sand. She's use to the weather, no matter how crazy it gets. Leaving lots of love and a vote.

Monsoon season. Large dust storm hit the Phoenix area, yesterday. Horrible winds were slamming into the house around noon, shaking it. Thanking Jesus for not losing power. Tucson was flooded from the heavy rains. I had to work a short shift, last night. Hard rain hit here before I got home, and flooded the highway below my house. And yes, it's miserably humid, now, but thankful for the rain. Also, thankful for Sadie's larger corral. The east end flooded, but the west was good. Sadie's good, too. Horses are rugged animals. They can survive so much worse. All she seemed to care about was food. I let her out, waded through puddles to the hay shed, and gave her a flake of hay. She had her carrots and apples, too. Her new salt brick melted. Need to buy 2 at a time, just in case. Love and a muggy vote. <3
