How We Met

Cimarron was a gift horse. He was an accidental baby, and he spent the first eight years of his life wild and untrained. My aunt obtained possession of him, and she spent a lot of time working with Cimarron. He acted feral - he bucked and tried to cow-kick his riders. Rather than enter a horse trailer, he repeatedly reared up and flipped over backward, beating himself up in the process. Cimarron eventually quieted down and served as a packhorse for many years. I met him in November 2007, and in July 2008, Cimarron injured himself in the pasture. He subsequently retired from packing and has been my treasured friend ever since..

Austin and I put up the corral panel, yesterday. Sadie has a lot more room, now. I bought Freedom 45 and treated her. Should have the partial wall on her shade next week. Too windy to do anything, now. I set up an appointment with the farrier. And Sadie tore her fly mask off. I've got to get her another one and her spring shots, too. Should have those next Wednesday or Thursday. Hope you're all doing well. Love and a vote.

How is your week going?? Been planning on brushing everyone up to help with winter fuzzy wuzzy being gone, but just never have much time. Farrier is coming on Thursday the 5th, so want to have it done. Have to put a new door with hinges on one small chicken coop, clean out the fish bath tub pond, had it emptied or nearly, when it rained for a few days, and now it is full again. I care the water to newly planted little trees, which I stole from our woods, work on a fencing for the 2mt old chicks, finish clicking the rabbits tangled fur, she is long haired, and I never finishing doing her. Hatching out another batch of baby chicks, the other 15 are leaving on Saturday along with 8-10 guinea hens, then the rest can start free roaming. The hens have been laying and collected 36 of them and have set them 2 days ago, then will add 12 pheasant eggs in 2 more days, and 3 days after that fill in with some chicken eggs, depending on space. Still air incubator and I need to turn the eggs at least 4-5 times a day. It will e nice to have enough money to of course buy more feed, and not have to take from a different fund, might even have enough to pay into the fund for farrier work and shots.

Trotting by with a Wednesday morning vote! I hope y'all are having a great week so far. I haven't been able to ride due to the wetness. But I did get to groom Copper yesterday. He is shedding so MUCH!!! It's really weird I almost don't know what color to call him Sorrel or bay? Sometimes he looks like sorrel but others he looks like a bay. I have a question, can bays have white socks? Voted! ~Brooke and Copper~

Hi Cimarron, hmm that is strange then that he's needing more feed than normal, but like you said, it could just be the old age. I feel like horses are like humans sometimes lol. The weather got a little bit cold this week, but going back to mid 70s next week :) I did get some Koot time in this weekend but it was just a turn out, no riding. Voted. XOXO Danya and Koot

Still cool this morning, but no frost. Planted more tomatoes yesterday, plus threw in squash seeds, that I saved from last yrs, I know that it is not a good idea, but it will help keep the weeds down is some troubled areas, until we have time to level off these areas. Most of them have stumps and old junk areas. But if I don't put something there, nasty weeds take over. Going to look at some Scottish Highland heifer calves tonight. Also set the guinea hen eggs in the second incubator, and of course even after running it for 3 ddays to make sure temps stay steady, they are too high last night, then too low, now it seems to level off. In 3 days will set pheasant eggs, and then fill in with chicken eggs, a few days after that, so they should all hatch out together....if I planned it right.

Hubby, Mike, has been working the gardens up for the past few weeks. Got the fence up and yesterday afternoon planted root crops, like potatoes, carrot,....4 packages, by order of the horses, beets, radishes, and about dozen small tomatoes. Good thing we covered them, because temps were 29 and frost everywhere this morning. Tried to load pictures of the turtles and there new home....they are not in it yet, well, at least not all day, because it is too cold yet. But pictures would not load, perhaps too big. I will work on it tonight.

HI Cimarron, here's a vote for ya. Thank you all for the congrats on Paige's HOTM! What a great surprise! Show went well, weather was cold and rainy however! But Paige placed very well in her Halter classes, just behind three top heavy duty halter horse mares under all 4 judges! So if the biggies didn't show up, my little mare would have been tops! But she is in my book no matter what. Very tough Showmanship patterns, but we placed in 6 out of 8 of them under 4 judges. I personally got knocked down cause I can't run the extended trot! It's a reason it's called Select Showmanship (over 50)! Hello judges! LOL! Indy had fun, got lunged and loved on. And little miss Honey was a hit with everyone! She became buds with a Swiss Mountain Bernese that was three times her size! She handled the show scene and living in the LQ trailer very well! Now we're both off to catch up on much needed rest. Marion and the blondes.

I will post the pictures of the two turtles on Kisses page if I find some time today. The water in the pond was super cold for them, and a shaded area. Pen is about 5ft tall, 6 w/8-10 feet long. I did replant the iris, added Stella O Day, and threw in some flower seeds. It already had hosas, Snow on the Mt, and another small ground cover plant, now all we need is warm weather so they can stay out in their new home. Temps were barely 40 when I came in from feeding.
Pickles is really starting to get better, let me walk him all the way to the pasture today, even if everyone else had run ahead of him, near the gate, he started to get antsy, so I walked him the other way, and then back to the gate. He is still so fuzzy with baby fur.

We did get the pond in, still have to move the cage over the top, but want to plant flowers and plants where the cage will go, but will have to steal violets, and day lilies from other areas because all I have in this area is Snow on the Mountain. Yes, we still have cold or cool weather mornings have been down to 28, but usually around 34. Spring will make it, I know, because my guinea hens have started laying.

How are Cimarron's feet doing? Hope he's feeling good. Any plans for the weekend?
Well, I rode Allie yesterday. We were both so tense we could hardly breathe, but we did it. I can see that the problem is going to be that if she spooks or gets fast, she's going to dump me cause she'll be afraid that I'm gonna get in her mouth. And I'm going to get in her mouth cause I'll be afraid she's gonna dump me. Gotta come up with a plan

Was busy digging a hole to put in the plastic pond for the turtles, have to be near a plug in, so that means next to the house. Hubby, finished digging it this morning. Have a long cage big enough to walk in, to put over the top and still have aout 5-6 feet so they can crawl out of the water. I sure hope my flowers and plants grow like I picture them in my mind. We had snow/sleet/rain from last evening to this morning. So spring must be hiding again.

Hi Cimarron, here's a vote for ya. Horses aren't chipped. Well it was a very busy day with getting ready for the first show of the season. Got the trailer hooked up and all loaded up, except for some last minute stuff in the morning. Horses clipped, Lunged and turned out for an hour of pasture time too. Then weed whacked all around the place! I'm exhausted! Mo came home, finally after 5 days on the lamb! LOL! He was in the barn when I came back from Lungeing Paige. He was talking up a storm with me and was very happy to rub against my leg and be picked up and petted! He ate some of his food and then went outside and sat in the grass. Tonight he's on the MIA list again. But I know he's all right at least. Just not fond of Honey, that's all! LOL! I'll be back on line on HC on Sunday night. We show Friday and Saturday, I'll stay over night then and leave Sunday morning sometime for home. Marion and the blondes.

I see why it would hurt your feelings your aunt saying that, but I'm sure she didn't mean to. The other common thing is if a horse's teeth need doing, but sometimes they just come out of winter a little thinner than you like. He'll fatten up on spring grass pretty quick.
Wish you had a better place to ride than walking through a neighborhood. It gets old riding circles in the riding ring all the time. I have to haul to get any trails too, and it's a pain. But we are happy to be able to have horses.
Lunged Allie tacked up and with her buddies, and she did much better. Phew, glad it's not the saddle! So as long as she has a friend stuck to her side, she should be good, lol. No, haven't been on her again, figured as long as she was anxious with no rider, there was no point getting on. I'm hoping to soon though, but it'll be real simple rides for a while, just walk/stop over and over.
Well, off to work. Have a great hump day.

More rain today, like 5th day in a row. The temps are cool too, so outside work is like the rain....hit and miss. Rest of the week should be cool without too much rain. Been planting tomatoes in paper cups, for the garden. I do have about 20 tomatoes plants up about 6-8 inches, but these were a different kind. As long as it is raining, we will go for feed today, if we can get the topper back on the truck.

Quick voting this morning before I do chores Can hear the birds singing outside, and little chicks starting to peep in the incubator. Going to start putting in the pond for the turtles today, needs electric for the filters so thinking next to the house or even in the day lillys over by the garage, even have the large cage to put over the top of everything, to keep them safe. Want to dig now while the ground is soft, since it has rained the last two days. Ponies seem to like to stay inside again, before they kept walking to the door like they wanted out, but that means more pen cleaning. Been trying to keep it clean, so all I had to do was put down lime, to kill anything in the soil, (it has dirt floor), then the sawdust, and straw, before Mistic has to use it for her baby. She other wise will be outside all day, and come in at night. So much for a quick vote, huh. :)
