Active within 149 Days
I am from Menomonie, WI and I've been a Club Horse member for 10 months
Age: 27 years old
Breed: Quarter Horse
Type of Riding: We used to do anything
My Horse's Achievements: Everything. Lucy would do anything for her rider, she could jump, game, do pleasure, showmanship, trail and be a simple trail horse. She taught my whole family to ride, and that's more than a small achievement.
My Horse's Favorite Treat: Carrots
My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: She liked to boss the other horses around, but she knew when to stop.
Pet Peeves: She always hated apples. I don't know why.
My Horse's motto: Been there, done that, don't care if I go back.
How We Met
It was Christmas day, 2008. My cousins and sister and I had always wanted a horse! We asked our grandparents and parents every day if we could get one! We even pooled all our allowances together. We were sure that we would get one this christmas! We had never been so anxious to open presents. We opened all of them and..... .......... Nothing. We were really disappointed. After we ate, we went upstairs and talked. We were close to tears as we realized it was again, a horseless Christmas. Soon the adults filed in and told us to sing our horse song(The twelve days of Christmas, horse lovers addition). We oblidged and half heartedly began to sing.
"On the first day of Christmas," We started, still sad. Our Favorite part came up before long.
"Five Quarter horse-"
We never got to finish as my grandpa pulled open the blinds and there stood our DREAM!!!!!!!!! Two horses stood in the driveway, being led by santa and Mrs.Clause. We ran out there in our shorts and t-shirts with hastily put on shoes and hopped on. One of the horses was Boo, and the other was Lucy. Boo had a few bucking issues when we first got him, so it was Lucy who most of us rode. We took lessons and lessons and rode everyday! All to soon, almost five years after we received our dream, Lucy passed away. We don't know what killed her, but we entered the barn like we did every day, and she was just laying there. It was heartbreaking. I owe almost everything to Lucy, and I will post a poem that my sister wrote in the blog area..

The Secret Key|
This is the poem my sister wrote for Lucy
You’ll never greet me hello again
Never nicker for your grain at night
Or rub your nose on my shoulder.
You won’t be cribbing anymore.
I won’t feel your quiet presence behind me
While I’m not paying attention to you
But you’re there. You knew my secrets.
Like a locket
Locked to the outside world
But keeping secrets and memories locked inside
Safe and sound from any who pretend to care
Only the one holding the key can see them
You held all the secrets, not only mine
Holding all your own in a different locket, close to your heart
You made room for mine too
You taught so many people so many things.
How to ride, how to fly, how to fall, how to get back on.
How to love. To live. To age.
We hoped you could see
More than the dirty walls and far fetched dreams
I wish I could tell you one more time
For keeping my secrets
And teaching me about the world
And being the quiet presence behind me
When I didn’t bother to say hello.
We loved you girl.
We really did.
Even if you got pushed to the side
By other dreams and young hearts
We still loved you.
We still do.
Don’t you worry anymore girl.
The boys will behave themselves
I’ll see to it for you
It’s the least I can do.
Just close your eyes,
The sun is going down.
Maybe I’ll tell your son we love him
Even though we’ve never met him
I’ll tell the white horse you left behind that he’s still your prince charming
He can keep a secret too.
I’m sorry I didn’t rub your ears more.
Or stop long enough to talk to you often
But when I did
I always walked out feeling a little better
Less heavy in the heart
You were young
So was I
We flew and cried and lived and died
But not for real
You're the reason for the tears on all our faces
The common and unknowing tribute
To the first
And the last time
We felt your presence
Thanks for teaching me the best thing I could ever learn
To get back up
To stick with it
To never let go
It may be too late.
One more day
One more smile
One last sunset
Maybe I’d be satisfied
When that sun goes down I’ll be wishing still
For one more day with you.
Come visit me, Vagas Heartbreak (R.I.P.), Taboo, Spero & Ranger.
