Hooves crossed for Whiskey to be ~ May HOTM ♡
<)___~ Whiskey will return to the Doc on May 20th for his next set of x-ray’s. I feel he will be just fine, last dose of bute yesterday and I think in 2 days will tell a lot of how he is but I can’t know for sure until the next visit. I want to thank you all for all the amazing support throughout the month of April. I hope you enjoyed his story and I surely hope I can tell you many more story’s in the future of he & I riding together…God bless you all…..I honestly did not realize how difficult and demanding running for HOTM could be until now! Not having a computer at home really made this challenging for me, so again I cannot say thanks enough, sending love to you & your herds!!!!!!!
Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed! In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it! Hoping to see him as the top horse tomorrow!!!!!

Doc said if Whiskey showed any signs of discomfort at that time to call right away. He is only allowed coastal hay and his feed for now. I started turn out Sunday 4/27and increase 10 min. intervals every couple of days. Now, here is what happened. We have been doing slow turn out for a while (over 8 weeks) and we left them out Wednesday night 4/09. Coleton (my son) had brought us some hay that we haven't fed before. It was pretty green but didn't think much about it. Doc says it is the combination of that hay and turned out that did this-but mainly that hay bale. The other horses are fine and Doc said because he is such an easy keeper/age that he just gorged himself...now all I can do is ask for prayers for my baby and a lot of positive thoughts. He is really doing so well from what I can see ♥ Today I give the last dose of bute and the next few days will really let me know how he is.
Even through the hard times of the Depression and World War II years, Sam Tuttle kept a sizable herd of thirty to forty horses on his farm. Sam is considered as the man most responsible for the survival of the Rocky Mountain Horse. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam's breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their stallions, and the horse population in general was rapidly declining due to tractors and farm machinery available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O' WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. Everyone who rode TOBE fell in love with him. TOBE's offspring were always in demand, and Sam never had any trouble selling all the Rocky Mountain Horses he could produce.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Have a wonderful day ♡
Cliff & I woke early Saturday to check on him and of course Cliff kept assuring me that I needed to go ride (the day I met and rode with Cheryl & Cisco) and he and Doc would take the best of care of my Whiskey boy. I wanted to call several times as we rode but needed to wait until we stopped for lunch so if I were to break down we would be off the horses and settled for a while. I called and yes he had foundered. Xrays showed that it is not as bad as I thought thank god! Doc says he feels very positive that he will be ok. The back legs are fine. They put wedge shoes on his front hoofs and I have been giving bute 2x's until 4/22, I backed down to 1 x a day Doc Edwards said when we back off to 1x a day that will be when we know for sure if he is ok and as of 4/28 he is doing fine and walking normal, ACTING LIKE MY Whiskey Boy! still keeping a watchful eye out for anything abnormal. Praying for a full recovery ✞
Sam Tuttle was the most prominent breeder of Rocky Mountain Horses for the first three quarters of the twentieth century. With the advent of better roads and means of travel, the population of gaited horses in the United States began to decline. The exception was the less developed area of the Appalachian Mountains. Gaited horses were still needed for travel where there were no roads, and therefore they were preserved in that area.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Good Morning my friends, here I am back to my regular Saturday morning thing, the breakfast buckets have been given, the cats fed, the dog has been out and fed, I have a coffee and it is time for my visit with all of you. It has been an interesting week, you all know how anxious I have been to ride because we lost out on ALL last summer. It has been so wet that my first few rides were around the mud puddles, but at least it was a ride. Things have dried up a bit more and we have been able to use the whole small ring, we have done mostly walk tot, but a bit of canter, don't want to do too much too quickly, poor Charlie can't be in shape after so much time off. Dr. Cook started Sterly on an ulcer med due to the recurring mild gas colic, he said that the number of horses walking around with ulcers would amaze you, but because of her senior years, 31, and because even a mild case can turn serious, we are going to try this for a month or so. She takes her meds willingly, what a good girl. Trevor is home. we are happy, I realize that it is boring for a city person out here in the middle of no where, but yesterday we took Zack for a walk and the day before he went for a bike ride. He is looking good, feeling tons better, still dealing with issues in his mouth from the radiation, the hearing loss is permanent, but it is only partially gone, his hair is coming back in, but really grey... strange, he is a fighter as you all know. Rain forecast for today, boo hoo, looks like laundry and vacuum and maybe a good book. Talk soon, we voted, Love Donna Lee

The more we rode the better Whiskey got at reining. The more miles and trails the easier it got on me and him. I discovered Whiskey loves the water. The picture today was taken 8/2012. We can get in a few minutes but I have to move him out or he will try to lie down, but I can take him right back in and then he settles to stand, doesn’t swim yet with me. We are still working toward that. We haven’t camped out in nearly 2 years, and that is when I can try to swim with the horses. It’s too hard to try swimming when I day ride because of the drive home (driving wet is no fun) -ha ha =) Deacon is my true water baby-he will actually swim with me and never try to lie down. I have also found that Whiskey hates for any type bug to fly in his face-so needless to say while we ride in the open if there are grass hoppers or butter flies, regular fly’s he tosses his head slightly. It doesn’t bother me now but it used to. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Whiskey would love your support for his HOTM run
In 2008 the decision was made after a talk with our boy’s and Cliff. It was time for me to get back on my horse journey. I purchased Deacon in March 23, 2008 and then bought Whiskey in May 2010. When I run Deacon I will tell more about the 1st 2 years back on my journey. Now that you have some back ground on me and my journey I will start Whiskey’s story with me. As many of you know I trail ride and use to camp with the horses all the time, now we just day ride. Hoping this spring sometime to camp again-fingers crossed =) It has been 2 years sense we have camped out with them. We would camp at Mccown or Plowman Valley at Lake Whitney Texas or at Reynolds Creek Lake Waco, Texas. During those times I have met a lot of people and their different type of horses. On one Oct. weekend we had some friends of Bill’s that was coming that I had never met. I asked Bill as we all were getting our horses ready for our ride that day, what type horses did these friends have? He said Rocky Mountain horses…I said hummmm, never heard of that breed. The thoughts in my head about this breed had me so curious. Now tomorrow we are into his story fully….hang in there! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Here it is Saturday morning 6AM, I just love this quiet time for me...I've been to the barn and Charlie and Sterly have had there buckets, as soon as it is light they can go outside to play in there tiny little muddy paddock. Hopefully the snow will soon be gone and they can stretch there legs in the larger area. The snow "mountain" is about half right now, but still dangerous. Trev is improving daily, thank you God, his next review is April the 12, my mission is to get a few pounds on him before then, wish me luck. Enjoy your weekend, we voted, Love Donna Lee

Hi Freddie, here's a vote for ya. Dreary day, not much rain today, high of 51 degrees but damp! Tomorrow heavy rains, up to 3 inches! WOW, was Paige on the mark today! Marissa really got into working her today in the show bridle and mixed it up! By the end of her session, Paige did 10 out of 12 perfect flying lead changes on a straight away and you never saw Marissa move her body or the mare be thrown into them! Western Riding Patterns next year, here we come! Maybe even by the end of the summer, who knows. Marissa says that doing them properly puts her in the best frame for pleasure, cause she has to really work those hips and hocks. This young lady is so wise in training! Can you tell I'm on a natural high! Marion and the blondies.

Hi Freddy, here's a vote for ya. You must look all handsome and cute now with that body clip. Can's wait to see pictures of you, mr. handsome boy! What a day, we took the day off of riding (my trainer and another friend)and went to a tack shop sale that was going out of business! Of course, don't listen to a GPS system, took us 40 minutes and 30 miles out of our way! But I did get a new underpad for showing in. It's thin and will protect my good show pads. And new Hobby Horse Whiskey colored chaps. Saved a ton of money, on two items like $100, was very happy with that. When we got back to Marissa's I did lunge Paige and do some showmanship work with her. Cut it short, needed to get home to Harley and the boys. Got home like 5:30pm, gave them a late, very late hay lunch and played with Harley. After almost 4 hours in the truck in travel time, I'm tired! LOL! Marion and the blondies

Hi Freddy, here's a vote for ya. Well the cold weather has returned, only a high of 36 today up here. BURR after yesterdays 62! Today it was all about me and Paige. No ride from Marissa on her. She said, lets pretend you are home now with her, what would your workout be like. I'll just hang lose and watch. So I did my thing, and got about a B+ on my examine! LOL! Got home and took care of Indy, his leg is looking almost normal now, luckly he was never off at all! Don't know what he did. So it was a good day, cold but good. Marion and the blondies.

Hi Freddy, here's a vote for ya. Please drop on by and support Paige in her quest for HOTD for April! Well they have changed our forecast from the 8 to 12 inches to now staying south of us and maybe just 2 to 4 inches if that! Yippy! Went to ice Paige's leg and hand walk her. She's feeling good, she was a little full of herself when hand walking her. Leg is down about 20% from yesterday! Yippy again! Got home and got Indy and Bullseye into the indoor for more playtime. Then I dragged the indoor, it hasn't been done in a while. All nice and fluffy again. Hopeing to lunge Indy tomorrow. Maybe do some showmanship with him too! Marion and the blondies.

Hi Freddie, here's a vote for ya. Well we start our run for HOTM with Ms. Paige, officially known as Nuttin But Good! Please stop by daily and step on our horseshoe and vote my pretty girl! Today went over to check up on Paige and her R/H leg with a boo boo! Took my special ice wrap with me and put that on for 30 minutes, then hand walked her and she was moving very well at the walk. Swelling is still there, not quite as much as yesterday, bute and SMZ's hopefully taking care of the problem. I don't think we're dealing with an abcess at all. I think she clocked herself good and it's just swollen and needs some time off. Got home and took care of the boys. Will start a small story about Paige in a day or two. Let's just get her through her boo boo for now! Marion and the blondies.
