How We Met

Tesla was rescued by a kind and loving family in New York! She was pregnant and underweight. Luckily she gave birth to a beautiful healthy little filly. She is still in the process of gaining weight from having the baby and not being fed properly during her pregnancy. Tesla was adopted by me and my fiancé just before Christmas '13 and is settling in with Sassy wonderfully!

I guess I will never complain about the cold, when the heat is this bad. 10 o'clock and horses have all ran into the shed. We brought all the round bales in this morning, Mike brought them in, and I just help make sure he is getting them straight. So while he is doing that, I moved most of the baby chicks, now about 3 weeks old into the chicken coop, there is a separate little room in there, for feed, but feed never gets into it, so nice place for chicks. They have out grown their large rabbit cage. At least there is a window to open.
Baby guineas, (keets) are hatching now, I can hear them inside the incubator. Have another batch due next Saturday. Wanted to take them to the next swap on the 30th, but that is our family reunion, (Mike's side) this time near Minneapolis, about 3-4 hours away. Most people are staying over night, but we have no one to check on critters, so we will just go for a bit and come home. Stay cool, sorry I did not read any one's comments to me, so will try to catch up later on any news.

Good Morning vote from Whisper, Willow, and the little herd. "Today" I take it all back about Pickles being a "problem child", he was so good, I guess him having to be in the other pen, made him be on his best behavior. So, he got staked outside of the pen, (with Mistit) as a treat. Let me put his halter on and gave him a treat, and he followed me out, without tugging, did a few whoa, and "kissing" to step up. We'll see what the day brings with him.

Spent most of yesterday, in between the rain showers on my knees, not praying in church, but weeding the garden. Nearly caught up, still have the one row left between the potatoes and squash, planted another package of beets, because I have been picking nice size beets, and also carrots. The rabbits, Auroa, BB, and guinea pig, Raisin, said they are ready and taste great.Just North of us, road have been washed out, over 0 inches of rain, 3 people died. 30 some people, camping had to be rescued at a camping ground. Seen pictures, and its a messy. North of us is a big tourist area. I wish I had smaller gates to make little stalls, and a better way to clean them out. Right now, I have one big pen inside the shed, and a fenced in area under the lean-to part of the shed. So when I open back big door, it has a long 20 ft board up to keep ponies out of the small sq. bales of hay, and then the 2 side doors, its stays breeze and cooler inside, but also makes a messy with poop and being wet. So, I have been trying to see where I could bring Pickles in or outside the shed, daily to work with him, by himself, without all his little friends being in the way. I hope your weather clears up for you. We, too, have been getting rain, but I know enough not to complain. Nice yesterday, besides the rain, had around 70's.

Things are always busy here, never seem to have enough time, to really finish most jobs. Trying to get weeds pulled from the garden, pulled 5 - 5gal bucket full, like just packed them in, for the pigs and guinea hens that have to stay in, because they do not listen very well....take after me, I guess. They like to go on the road, so I lock the hens in and let the 2 males out, and 1 in. Later, this evening after supper, I let them all out, but then I can be out weeding flower beds and keep a eye on them better. I ride Willow a bit each evening, and try to work with Pickles too. Too many little ones around to get any place with him. I have never seen a horse so afraid of hands, unless I start behind him. If he is tied, he is not bad, but out in the pen, its like always out of reach. He is not aggressive, and I can start at his but and work my way up to his head, or under his chin, as long as the hands are out of site. I wish he could talk to tell me what happened to him. Paisley is nothing like that at all.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

Little pigs are getting very playful, I like to watch them play while I am trying to get caught up on weeding the garden. I am so surprised how much weeds grew in just a few days. Black sow only has 2, and white sow, 5. Last night Mother Nature put on a fireworks show. Nearly 2 inch of rain.
Been getting in short rides on Willow, Whisper is in heat, and I do not want her chasing Willow, because when she runs, is when she limps.

Yay, two in a row! Such pretty mares, both of them. So glad you still have them and are enjoying riding them. So I'm curious, do you have someone to ride with so the mares can trail ride together? Or do you ride one and pony the other? Either way, that's cool you get to take them both trail riding. Nothing is better.
Well, hope you have a great sunday. Give the girls a celebration apple for me.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I got to ride Copper yesterday afternoon. I walked, trotted and loped bareback. He has a bumpy trot so it's not the most comfortable. I also worked on his side passing. Which he is starting to get down. He's starting to grow his winter coat! Happy Monday everyone and a vote! ~Copper~

We received 1 ¾” of rain last night-the wind was unbelievable!!! I had to go and get feed and grocery’s yesterday and by the time we were finished it was too hot to ride. I did get fly stuff on the boys and checked the fly mask and then just watched them graze for the evening! Working the weekend but will try to do something with them after work but it will be to muddy to ride. Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed!
*TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.

Thank you for voting for Whiskey while I was unavailable the last few days. Whiskey sends you all double loves and hugs ♥ I am actually off work tomorrow and back the weekend!
* In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

✞ Whiskey has a fast walk that is like the true gait of a Rocky Mountain but it isn’t as pronounced like the other RM horses I see, it’s a little different. He has the smoothest gallop and run. He has the energy to go go go. He will go no matter how long you want to ride-his battery never seems to run out but that is the breed, again they started out as a utility horse!! Whiskey stays to himself; he doesn’t really hang with the other 2, only once in a while. Deacon picks him as a favorite for a day or 2 then they separate and Rocket is Deacons main herd mate. * During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the rural inhabitants of eastern Kentucky considered these saddle horses to be horses for all seasons. They were sure-footed, easy-gaited, and the mount of choice for postmen, doctors, and traveling preachers. People used them for plowing small fields, herding cattle, traveling through the steep and rugged trails, and driving the buggy to church on Sunday. Horses were not a luxury, but a necessity. Every horse had to earn its keep and be extremely versatile. It was not a matter of having horses around to use every once in a while; these horses were worked hard, every day. At the end of the day they were exhausted, but possessed enough stamina to continue on, day after day.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

don't forget to vote for Deacon on his page!
♡ When I got Deacon he had previously pastured on Bill’s brothers property with 3 other horses. All 3 others horses were taken in to have sarcoid tumors removed. Deacon had a small knot on his left flank that I had Doc Edward’s check out. He said to leave it alone until it started to change or he could remove for cosmetic reasons if I wanted. I choose to wait. I don’t show my horses and I wasn’t interested giving Deacon Surgery after just newly purchasing him. It didn’t bother him either. Several years ago I did have it removed. It started to change. Doc had learned how to also prevent future ones as well. This method is to take a small piece of the tumor and put it in the neck area. You can’t even tell where the cut on his flank was now. In his knot he actually had 2 small tumors in it.
Equine Sarcoid:

Sarcoid tumors are the most common skin tumor in horses. These tumors are unique in that they are the product of infection with Bovine Papilloma Virus (BPV), which is probably transmitted by flies. Many horses can be infected with this virus, but no two horses will express it in the same way. Tumor appearance and size can vary greatly between horses, and even on the same horse; similarly, response to different treatments can be highly variable. Tumors can originate at the site of a wound or tack rub, and originally present as a wound that isn't healing; on the lower limbs, they also are often mistaken for proud flesh. Though sarcoids are the most common skin tumor of horses, they are also one of the most misunderstood maladies of horses.
Here is a hug & a Wednesday vote :)

☆ Our weekend was very nice especially the mornings. It was cool around 69-70. I had a nice ride at the lake. Rode by myself mostly then caught up with Whiskey’s pervious owner Tim. We rode a while and then after getting home a friend came by and we just watched the herd graze. I got up Sunday morning and rode Deacon. Rest of the day I rested. I did find 2 dresses. One I will ware to the bridal shower the other I will ware to the wedding! All of this will be here in a blink of an eye so trying to stay on top of it!!! Have a wonderful day! Whinnies & hugs.

The more we rode the better Whiskey got at reining. The more miles and trails the easier it got on me and him. I discovered Whiskey loves the water. The picture today was taken 8/2012. We can get in a few minutes but I have to move him out or he will try to lie down, but I can take him right back in and then he settles to stand, doesn’t swim yet with me. We are still working toward that. We haven’t camped out in nearly 2 years, and that is when I can try to swim with the horses. It’s too hard to try swimming when I day ride because of the drive home (driving wet is no fun) -ha ha =) Deacon is my true water baby-he will actually swim with me and never try to lie down. I have also found that Whiskey hates for any type bug to fly in his face-so needless to say while we ride in the open if there are grass hoppers or butter flies, regular fly’s he tosses his head slightly. It doesn’t bother me now but it used to. Thank you for your support we appreciate it!
