How We Met

Dolly was my first riding horse ever! She is truly a dream come true for me, my brothers and my sister. Our neighbors told us about a horse for sale nearby and we went to look at her.
Once I looked into her big brown eyes there was no way I could leave her! Dolly is a wonderful first horse, enduring with my lack of riding skills, and teaching me to be a better rider at the same time! The Lord has given me a great blessing!

HORSES

You can hear the thunder of hoof beats, under a starlit sky;
The soft nicker in the morning, when the sun is rising high.

You can feel the softness of a velvety nuzzle on your hand;
And the thrill that shoots through you, as you race across the land.

You can see you horses silhouette, as the sun is sinking low;
Their coats shining softly in the sun's warming glow.

You've loved them all your life, a dream, it seems, came at birth;
And all these dream-come-true- s, make you
feel like the richest girl on earth!

"Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart." Psalm 26:2

Your trail ride sounds great, what a blessing to have it just across the road. Hope you can do that loop fairly often. I love seeing what's just around the bend or just over the next rise. And trails can look so different going in the opposite direction, it's like having 2 different trails for 1.
Thanks, I love Allie's color too. The hot summer sun has already faded her out since I took that profile pic. It's been in the 90s here with no rain in the last couple of weeks. Brutal.
Glad you're getting to the library fairly often. More so in the summer?
Still struggling with Allie's training. She's so incredibly resistant, even though she's a sweet horse. Strong-willed and stiff-necked (like the OT Israelites, lol). Anyway, I keep working at it and hoping she'll get with the program eventually.
Rode Allie again yesterday and we did tight little turns to emphasize giving and bending, and she softened with those. We also did a couple little trots, then one rein stops and she did okay, though that made her want to get a little excited and go faster again, but bending relaxed her. It's work today and that mandatory class tomorrow, but I may be able to ride in the morning.
Well, better get a move on and get ready for work. Have a great tuesday.

Come visit me, Allie, thanks everyone for June HOTM! & BJ and his mom,Gracie.

Yes, we had light frost yesterday morning. We have had frost in nearly ever month, once on the 4th of July, we had to leave the park early to go cover the garden, and sit with blankets on us, as we watched the local parade. No, baby yet. A week ago, the vet said it would be at least a week to 10 days yet. The former owner, was so positive on her breeding dates. It was in July, that Mistit hurt her stifle joint. She does not seem uncomfortable, but sometimes I see her tail switching back and forth, or looking at her belly. Yesterday, she was rolling a few times. Pickles, now is a different story. He did not seem sore after the second or third day. But, he is back to being "catch me if you can" attitude. Today, I put him in the pen, and lead him back and forth to the pasture, of course he wants to run, but I zig zag back and forth, to make him slow down, but then here comes the goats, under the fence,running straight to us, and Pickles took off. Well, another bad habit I just taught him.

I've only had the chance to help with bringing in hay a couple of times, but I enjoyed it: the smell of fresh hay, being outside, throwing and stacking the hay. Don't know that my old back could handle much of it nowadays, lol. The goats sound cute and the horses sound so sweet to them.
We've been fine here. We've had a fair sized black snake get comfy in the tack room, startles me from time to time. And wild rabbits have moved into the yard. Now that I think about it, we usually have a few red tailed hawks around but I haven't seen them this year. That may be why other wildlife is coming out into the open. As long as they stay out of the house, we'll be friends, lol.
We've had a few thunderstorms roll past this weekend, though not much over the house, so I may be able to ride this afternoon.
Have you been able to ride much? Has it been very hot? Are you still having to use the computer at the library or do you have one at the house now? Hope all's well and you have a great weekend.

Come visit me, Allie, thanks everyone for June HOTM! & BJ and his mom,Gracie.

Aw, the goats sound so cute, I bet you're having fun with them. What do the horses think about them?
I had a good ride on Allie yesterday aND again today. She is changing direction easier now, but doing it with a stiff body. Oh well, gotta start somewhere. I also swam in the pool with my daughter in the evening and we had fun. I have a lot to learn about pool management, it's more like a pond than a pool at present, but it's nice to be able to get in the water.
Well, hope you have a great hump-day. Take care.

No baby yet, talk to the woman, and she said Mistit could go 10 days over her last breeding date. But the goat, Zero, cry so much when I have to stake him out, so I got him a little friend, now I have two of them crying. Hatched out 8 of the 12 pheasant eggs, they are so tiny. About 15 guinea keets, and I sold 10 already, but that 40 dollars will go right back into feed. Gelding is tomorrow, so have to clean up a bit "again". Just hay and stuff the goats seem to like to knock down.

Hi all, sorry Ive been off the grid a while, I am just so busy updating our picking houses to be compliant with OROSHA, Lilly is doing great she is so pretty all shedded out, the goat boys are onry as ever, gonna be going to build another stall in the barn on the side where I store the hay, Im staging some hay in the loft above Lilly's stall then gonna put some over in the chicken house , the big barn is not that far away if I need to grab a few bales at a time in winter, took a sliding door off one of our old picking cabins and restored it, it will be the new door to the stall, not sure what kind of animal Ill get, Im just gonna let it play it's self out and Im in no hurry it will be an animal that will be compatable with Lilly and the goat boys, have a great week, love Suz, Lilly and the Goat boys

Between getting the goat, a wether, who must think I am his Mom, all he says is MaMaMama....smile emoticon And the guinea pig, named Raisin. and I do not have his pen/cage ready yet. Guinea hens that do not want to get along with each other, and two turtles that need to go outside, but with our temps still in the 20's in the morning, I do not want to take the chance on them getting too cold. All 22 of my tomato plants froze, even with being covered. And the little ponies (3) young ones ran right threw the electric fence this morning, I think they are afraid of the goat, who is still in the shed. I guess, everything sounds normal here.......wink emoticon

Sadie was a good girl, Thursday. She did give the farrier some attitude. He rubbed her neck and said she's a spoiled brat. She is. She took her shot without a problem and didn't fight the deworming. She's wearing her new fly mask, too. She and Austin played chase. She had that tail curled. Lol. So funny. Have a great weekend. I have extra hours this weekend, too. Will be on to vote, as much as possible. Love and a vote.

wow, so the girls went on an adventure? glad they were okay. yeah, the way Cutter was acting, sounds like something really scared them. any more trouble?
we've been fine, just very busy lately, but im off the rest of the week, so im happy about that. i brought Allie up to ride the other day and she was moving a little sore, so i just sat on her and flexed her head for a few minutes. she's finally getting pretty light with that. then i hopped on Gracie for a longer ride.
well, hope your week is off to a good start. take care.

I know the worry of the horses getting out. Our farm is off the hwy, but only about 1/4 mile. Everytime, I would hear horns blowing in the middle of the night, I would go check to make sure all of mine were in. Finally, saved up enough to buy some gates/panels, like the round pen kind. So we put them up around the shed, and at night everyone goes in.
Dolly, you stop making Mama worry about you, and stay in, even if the grass looks greener on the other side.

We've had a little cool snap down here too, it was 48 this morning. But it feels good. We've already had a few days up to 90.
Not so sure about Allie, I don't feel real good about how she's doing. Neither one of us is having any fun, and I just don't seem to be able to get through to her. Nothing I've ever known about horses seems to work with her, so I'm at my wit's end with her.
Well, better get on with the day. Hope you get to hit the trails again soon, and have a great friday. Take care.

Still cool this morning, but no frost. Planted more tomatoes yesterday, plus threw in squash seeds, that I saved from last yrs, I know that it is not a good idea, but it will help keep the weeds down is some troubled areas, until we have time to level off these areas. Most of them have stumps and old junk areas. But if I don't put something there, nasty weeds take over. Going to look at some Scottish Highland heifer calves tonight. Also set the guinea hen eggs in the second incubator, and of course even after running it for 3 ddays to make sure temps stay steady, they are too high last night, then too low, now it seems to level off. In 3 days will set pheasant eggs, and then fill in with chicken eggs, a few days after that, so they should all hatch out together....if I planned it right.

Hubby, Mike, has been working the gardens up for the past few weeks. Got the fence up and yesterday afternoon planted root crops, like potatoes, carrot,....4 packages, by order of the horses, beets, radishes, and about dozen small tomatoes. Good thing we covered them, because temps were 29 and frost everywhere this morning. Tried to load pictures of the turtles and there new home....they are not in it yet, well, at least not all day, because it is too cold yet. But pictures would not load, perhaps too big. I will work on it tonight.

those trails sound beautiful! count your blessings that you have those so close by and handy. you'll have to post some pix of them.
it's good to hear from you; sounds like your family and horses are all doing well. are you enjoying spring? does your family do a garden at all? i plant a few things here and there, and they're all doing well, thankfully.
we are fine. it's getting warm and dry down here, not too bad yet, but it'll be a rough summer if it stays this way. Allie threw my niece a few weeks ago. thankfully, she is fine, but we went to the hospital for some xrays- it was a hard fall and she could hardly stand up at first. so i havent been back on her since, just groundwork again. Allie was very nervous and fast for the first week but settling down again now and i hope to get on again soon, just for baby rides of walk-stop, walk-stop. we'll see how that goes. not sure what got into her because we had been doing pretty good.
well, better get busy. hope you are having a good week. take care.

Was busy digging a hole to put in the plastic pond for the turtles, have to be near a plug in, so that means next to the house. Hubby, finished digging it this morning. Have a long cage big enough to walk in, to put over the top and still have aout 5-6 feet so they can crawl out of the water. I sure hope my flowers and plants grow like I picture them in my mind. We had snow/sleet/rain from last evening to this morning. So spring must be hiding again.

Hello friends , what a week, and weekend it has been, Lilly got her toes trimmed she feels great, weve been working hard on getting the wood fence up around the three acres behind the house, whenever I let her loose while we work on the project she runs kicks and bucks so I know the barnyard is just gonna love being in their all alone with out a baby sitter, this week its been cool, overcast, rainy, sunny, you name it ! Been really busy working on cleaning and organizing the shops again at the orchard, they get so dirty and disgusting, Im gonna hook the horse trailer up and practice driving it then drive Lilly around,there is a vaccination clinic in Hood River on the 16th, about 10 miles away, if I can get her there it will save me alot of money versus having a vet come to the house, wish me luck, well gotta head up the hill to work so have a wonderful day, love Suz, Lilly and the goat boys !

Happy Sunday to you. It's nice outside, snow is melting, but a whole day of rain on Friday, has made alot of ice too. I moved the guinea hens outside to the pheasant pen, because it has a closed top. It will be warm enough in the house for them. It sure is nice not to hear them so much. I did keep the white and some gray ones inside, because the two groups do not get along so good yet. I wish there was a better way to tell the females from males, they both look alike, I know they both make a different sound, but with 27 of them, who is the one you hear.
