How We Met

Dolly was my first riding horse ever! She is truly a dream come true for me, my brothers and my sister. Our neighbors told us about a horse for sale nearby and we went to look at her.
Once I looked into her big brown eyes there was no way I could leave her! Dolly is a wonderful first horse, enduring with my lack of riding skills, and teaching me to be a better rider at the same time! The Lord has given me a great blessing!

HORSES

You can hear the thunder of hoof beats, under a starlit sky;
The soft nicker in the morning, when the sun is rising high.

You can feel the softness of a velvety nuzzle on your hand;
And the thrill that shoots through you, as you race across the land.

You can see you horses silhouette, as the sun is sinking low;
Their coats shining softly in the sun's warming glow.

You've loved them all your life, a dream, it seems, came at birth;
And all these dream-come-true- s, make you
feel like the richest girl on earth!

"Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart." Psalm 26:2

Thank You for your vote. Raining right now, so perhaps, I can get some time to put the ponies in one group, instead of 4 pages. But I am trying to clean up saddles so I can sell them, with this humidity some of my leather in the tack room is getting mold on it. My grandson is staying for a few days, and I will put his hands to work. Thank You again.

Going to be a hot, mucky day, but weather man is calling for bad thunderstorms, for our county and north of us. Mike has to take our son Mike, in for surgery this morning, so since it is nearly a 2 hour drive, he left at 5:30 this morning. My son, needs to have a stint put behind his knee, because his toes are turning black (spot) from lack of blood. Being a diabetic all those yrs has destroyed his blood vessels. If you have extra prayers send them his way. He has already lost his other leg up to his knee about 10 yrs ago.

Very humid today, still calling for rain, but high temps too. At least 84 now, but there is a nice breeze too. Had to run to get a part for the tractor, so sort of late for me, about 11 now. We have about 15-16 acres of hay, only cut about half of it down and had a guy round bale it. Going to try out a small sq. baler to put up the hay from new seeding. We did not want to take the chance of getting it down, then get rained on because it is thick. Trouble is no barn the type where you had a hay mount like the old barns. Can store some inside side the shed, but not more than a 150.

We are in our real dry hot dog days of summer so I am only riding Deacon in the early morning. I am outside by 6:30 am to catch and saddle him then I started with 20 minute rides and increased to 30 minutes Sunday morning. I will be off Friday and the following Tuesday and will ride 30 min. each day. If he is still doing well I may increase to 40 minutes next weekend. He has done very well. I have been flexing, backing, side passing and walk trot only. May try a slow canter next weekend. Have a wonderful day!

Whisper, Willow, and the little herd are sending you a vote. Hay was cut yesterday, all except where we planted new seeding. Because that will take longer to dry, and its calling for rain again. Before, the weather station said rain on Thursday, then changed it Wednesday. So we left that part, going to small bale it, then try to figure out where to store it.

A vote from Whisper, Willow and the little herd. Cloudy today and is suppose to rain. Can not get 3 nice days in a row to make hay, and since we do not have equipment have to have neighbors help. I finished the garden, at least of pulling 5 gallon buckets of weeds out. I have been eating beets and carrots already, plus things that grow fast like lettuce and radishes. Cucumbers, winter and summer squash, way too many tomatoes, since I had to replant about 16 of them, I now have close to 25 plants, many just come up by themselves, and I move them to a row, or a place where something did not grow. Dill is growing here and there, but I also plant it in flower beds, since butterflies like to lay their eggs on it. Potatoes are now have flowers. Flower beds mostly can take care of themselves, since they are "grow where you fall" type gardens. Lots of them about 17 small ones, and all around the house. I have no color theme, just what the butterflies and birds like. I have one corner of the house, where the water hose comes out, that I need to redo, since I had to dig it up, but this year, I just planted pumpkins there, to keep the weeds down.

The goats are so cute, glad you're enjoying them. Yeah, read in her "how we met" that Cutter was a handful when you first got her. You've done some good work with her.
Thanks for the compliments on Allie. I love her contrasting colors, and she really seems to know she's special, she's always posing. Makes getting good pics easy, lol. I keep hoping that she'll be a good little horse one day, but she sure is making me work for it. I can't wait to try her on some trails, I think she's gonna love it, but she has to be more obedient before I'm ready for that. And I really want to try her on cows too, I think she's gonna love working cows. But again, she'll have to have more handle before we're ready for that. I did ride her this morning and shes guiding better at the trot. Stopping, not so much. There's always something to work on.
Well, hope you're having a great weekend. Take care

Good Morning vote from Whisper, Willow, and the little herd. "Today" I take it all back about Pickles being a "problem child", he was so good, I guess him having to be in the other pen, made him be on his best behavior. So, he got staked outside of the pen, (with Mistit) as a treat. Let me put his halter on and gave him a treat, and he followed me out, without tugging, did a few whoa, and "kissing" to step up. We'll see what the day brings with him.

Spent most of yesterday, in between the rain showers on my knees, not praying in church, but weeding the garden. Nearly caught up, still have the one row left between the potatoes and squash, planted another package of beets, because I have been picking nice size beets, and also carrots. The rabbits, Auroa, BB, and guinea pig, Raisin, said they are ready and taste great.Just North of us, road have been washed out, over 0 inches of rain, 3 people died. 30 some people, camping had to be rescued at a camping ground. Seen pictures, and its a messy. North of us is a big tourist area. I wish I had smaller gates to make little stalls, and a better way to clean them out. Right now, I have one big pen inside the shed, and a fenced in area under the lean-to part of the shed. So when I open back big door, it has a long 20 ft board up to keep ponies out of the small sq. bales of hay, and then the 2 side doors, its stays breeze and cooler inside, but also makes a messy with poop and being wet. So, I have been trying to see where I could bring Pickles in or outside the shed, daily to work with him, by himself, without all his little friends being in the way. I hope your weather clears up for you. We, too, have been getting rain, but I know enough not to complain. Nice yesterday, besides the rain, had around 70's.

Sorry, I did not get you leave everyone a vote lately. Usually, I figure, in the evening I will have more time, which means I never have more time after supper. I have such issues with the "pop-ups" and it takes me forever to finish. Late last night the white sow, (pig) decided its time to make a nest. So of course she picks the deepest hole in her pen, not under her lean to, where there is shelter, and clean, started carrying the grass I was picking for her and beet tops to line the nest. I gave her hay so she would stop trying to rip the traps off the lean to. Well, this morning no babies yet, still pushing, first one sometimes is born stillborn, and plugging the way. Mother Pigs are not something like a dog or cat and go sit with them, they will eat there young, if they get mad or bother, specially since we did not raise them. I have been going into the pen and letting them get use to me "bothering" them. Normal, if she does what my pigs we had before, they lay for about 3 days until the baby pigs are strong enough to get out of the way when MaMa lays back down, or she will squash them. But tomorrow is calling for rain, and that hole will fill up with water, so we went out and put in a few more steel pole and built her a tent.

Please share with Cutter this vote.
Have to go to our little town 4th of July celebration in a bit, so sending fast vote. The Banker is a vet, and marching in the parade. Last night they picked up cross from the cemetery, put there for Memorial Day. Rode Willow again last night, and a bit in the morning. I mean just walking around the pen a few times. Her leg does not bother her, unless running, I see her lunge herself, when I come out with a rope, Stephanie said it was because she did not like her leg treated. So, I go out with the halter and rope, "ump-teen" times a day, and when she comes to me, I give her a tiny treat, then pet her and tell her she is a good girl. She needs time to get use to be with me, because she was in with 17 other horses, and it seems they were not too kind to her. She is a bit thin, "compared" to Whisper or the other ponies. In a week or so, I will see if Stephanie can send me what her vet said about Willow.

Yep, it was good to see you in the HOTD spotlight the other day. Dolly is such a pretty mare.
Oh, your planned trail ride sounds nice, hope you can do it. So do you and your siblings have to ride double? Kinda sounds like you might maybe NEED another horse. Unless yall take turns walking and riding, which is fun too as well as being good exercise.
Thanks for the prayers. I pray before my rides too. I figure God knows how to train this crazy little Tacky horse He made, so I always ask Him for safety and wisdom. And sometimes, ideas just come to me. I have to be careful though, after a while, I start thinking I'm the one who knows how to train, which is only marginally the case, lol.
I had a great ride on her yesterday. I'm starting to add more trotting into the ride, but that tends to make her excited and want to go faster. But she let me steer her a little at the trot yesterday, stopped when I wanted her to, more or less, and we finished the ride walking around, steering, nice and relaxed. Good girl. There might have been a little happy dance after I got off, haha.
Well, hope all's well and you're enjoying your summer. Take care.

Your trail ride sounds great, what a blessing to have it just across the road. Hope you can do that loop fairly often. I love seeing what's just around the bend or just over the next rise. And trails can look so different going in the opposite direction, it's like having 2 different trails for 1.
Thanks, I love Allie's color too. The hot summer sun has already faded her out since I took that profile pic. It's been in the 90s here with no rain in the last couple of weeks. Brutal.
Glad you're getting to the library fairly often. More so in the summer?
Still struggling with Allie's training. She's so incredibly resistant, even though she's a sweet horse. Strong-willed and stiff-necked (like the OT Israelites, lol). Anyway, I keep working at it and hoping she'll get with the program eventually.
Rode Allie again yesterday and we did tight little turns to emphasize giving and bending, and she softened with those. We also did a couple little trots, then one rein stops and she did okay, though that made her want to get a little excited and go faster again, but bending relaxed her. It's work today and that mandatory class tomorrow, but I may be able to ride in the morning.
Well, better get a move on and get ready for work. Have a great tuesday.

Yes, we had light frost yesterday morning. We have had frost in nearly ever month, once on the 4th of July, we had to leave the park early to go cover the garden, and sit with blankets on us, as we watched the local parade. No, baby yet. A week ago, the vet said it would be at least a week to 10 days yet. The former owner, was so positive on her breeding dates. It was in July, that Mistit hurt her stifle joint. She does not seem uncomfortable, but sometimes I see her tail switching back and forth, or looking at her belly. Yesterday, she was rolling a few times. Pickles, now is a different story. He did not seem sore after the second or third day. But, he is back to being "catch me if you can" attitude. Today, I put him in the pen, and lead him back and forth to the pasture, of course he wants to run, but I zig zag back and forth, to make him slow down, but then here comes the goats, under the fence,running straight to us, and Pickles took off. Well, another bad habit I just taught him.

I've only had the chance to help with bringing in hay a couple of times, but I enjoyed it: the smell of fresh hay, being outside, throwing and stacking the hay. Don't know that my old back could handle much of it nowadays, lol. The goats sound cute and the horses sound so sweet to them.
We've been fine here. We've had a fair sized black snake get comfy in the tack room, startles me from time to time. And wild rabbits have moved into the yard. Now that I think about it, we usually have a few red tailed hawks around but I haven't seen them this year. That may be why other wildlife is coming out into the open. As long as they stay out of the house, we'll be friends, lol.
We've had a few thunderstorms roll past this weekend, though not much over the house, so I may be able to ride this afternoon.
Have you been able to ride much? Has it been very hot? Are you still having to use the computer at the library or do you have one at the house now? Hope all's well and you have a great weekend.

I had a good ride on Allie yesterday aND again today. She is changing direction easier now, but doing it with a stiff body. Oh well, gotta start somewhere. I also swam in the pool with my daughter in the evening and we had fun. I have a lot to learn about pool management, it's more like a pond than a pool at present, but it's nice to be able to get in the water.

No baby yet, talk to the woman, and she said Mistit could go 10 days over her last breeding date. But the goat, Zero, cry so much when I have to stake him out, so I got him a little friend, now I have two of them crying. Hatched out 8 of the 12 pheasant eggs, they are so tiny. About 15 guinea keets, and I sold 10 already, but that 40 dollars will go right back into feed. Gelding is tomorrow, so have to clean up a bit "again". Just hay and stuff the goats seem to like to knock down.

Between getting the goat, a wether, who must think I am his Mom, all he says is MaMaMama....smile emoticon And the guinea pig, named Raisin. and I do not have his pen/cage ready yet. Guinea hens that do not want to get along with each other, and two turtles that need to go outside, but with our temps still in the 20's in the morning, I do not want to take the chance on them getting too cold. All 22 of my tomato plants froze, even with being covered. And the little ponies (3) young ones ran right threw the electric fence this morning, I think they are afraid of the goat, who is still in the shed. I know the worry of the horses getting out. Our farm is off the hwy, but only about 1/4 mile. Everytime, I would hear horns blowing in the middle of the night, I would go check to make sure all of mine were in. Finally, saved up enough to buy some gates/panels, like the round pen kind. So we put them up around the shed, and at night everyone goes in.
