About Azteca
I don’t know much about my Azteca’s history, but from what I heard from her owner, as a young horse, she started training for reining, but didn’t quite make it. Knowing Teca, she didn’t like all the dirt flying around her! So since she wasn’t good for reining, a young girl bought her and did 4-H with her for about two years until she lost interest in her. How ever could anyone lose interest in such a sweet mare, I wonder? But obviously this girl did! Azteca was boarded at the local horse rescue for five years and when I got to know the owner of the horse rescue and told her I was looking for my first horse, she mentioned her to me. I contacted her owner and my girl came home with me the next week. I never once regretted that purchase. A horse that hasn’t been touched for five years will need some work, but I had taken riding lessons before buying her with the intention of getting experience so I could buy a horse that needed help. I’d say I was an intermediate rider when I bought Azteca. She was the perfect confidence builder for me. I could handle her when she got frustrated, because she has such a mild temperament that she won’t get dangerous, and I probably learned as much from her as she did from me! Now she is the sweetest, best-behaved horse there ever was, and I have advanced quite a bit on her back. Some would say I have outgrown her, but I still love to ride her just to relax after training a feisty young project horses. She is such a joy to ride, her reining training is still evident in her spins and flying lead changes, although she won’t do sliding stops, and she loves to try new things. We have done dressage, which she’s really good at, and pole bending, and barrels and pleasure and trail and mounted games. We even tried saddle-seat! That one didn’t work, beings she is a Quarter Horse! She loves to run; she can even outrun my off the track Thoroughbred! Azteca is a beautiful mare and she knows it. She loves to be groomed and she is so proud when she gets new tack. She’s an easy keeper, she’s hardy, surefooted, and rarely gets sick. She has a calming effect on nervous, green horses, or nervous, green people! So here’s to my Teca girl: You’ll never know how much I love you, and how it cheers me up to see your sweet face when I’m feeling down. I love to run my hands through your long, silky mane and look into your soft brown eyes. I promise I’ll always love you, and (I quote): “Even when my life on earth is through, there will still be a part of me in you. Some things are forever; nothing’s ever gonna take my love from you.” I promise you will never need anything and not get it again. God gave me you, Teca, and that was the best thing that ever happened to me!

Come visit me, Prince Teton, Cocoa & Azteca.
