How We Met

About 5 years ago my sister fell off of Mercy and became mortally afraid of horses and didn't ride for 2 years. My grandma started leasing Mya for her and at first forced her to ride, but now my sister loves her and rides all the time. Note: To protect people's identities I have blurred their faces. If a face is not blurred, then it is a picture of me..

vote Whiskey 237221 July HOTM!!!
We had a nice weekend and hope you all did as well. Lizzy came over Saturday and rode Rocket and then she gave him the full grooming experience and I did the same with Whiskey. I had a 30 minute short workout for Deacon on Sunday morning then went to Tractor Supply for feed and the grocery store. Every other weekend I am not around a computer so I will phone vote as many as possible, also 1 x a week that I will phone vote :) * Rocky Mountain Horses are slow to mature and do not reach their full size and weight until about five to six years of age. Generally healthy horses, they often live long lives but do have a tendency to be extremely "easy keepers". Care must be taken to keep your Rockies from becoming too overweight, particularly in their later years.* Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

♥ We had a very nice Christmas and hope you did as well. The winds were terrible but sunny. The picture today of Deacon is of him with his 1st saddle on, isn’t he just darling! As I mentioned yesterday, please let me know the month you want to run HOTM, I had several listed but deleted it somehow. I am off work tomorrow, phone votes. Have a wonderful weekend <)__~

Deacon would love your support for HOTM!
♡ When I got Deacon he had previously pastured on Bill’s brothers property with 3 other horses. All 3 others horses were taken in to have sarcoid tumors removed. Deacon had a small knot on his left flank that I had Doc Edward’s check out. He said to leave it alone until it started to change or he could remove for cosmetic reasons if I wanted. I choose to wait. I don’t show my horses and I wasn’t interested giving Deacon Surgery after just newly purchasing him. It didn’t bother him either. Several years ago I did have it removed. It started to change. Doc had learned how to also prevent future ones as well. This method is to take a small piece of the tumor and put it in the neck area. You can’t even tell where the cut on his flank was now. In his knot he actually had 2 small tumors in it.
Equine Sarcoid:

Sarcoid tumors are the most common skin tumor in horses. These tumors are unique in that they are the product of infection with Bovine Papilloma Virus (BPV), which is probably transmitted by flies. Many horses can be infected with this virus, but no two horses will express it in the same way. Tumor appearance and size can vary greatly between horses, and even on the same horse; similarly, response to different treatments can be highly variable. Tumors can originate at the site of a wound or tack rub, and originally present as a wound that isn't healing; on the lower limbs, they also are often mistaken for proud flesh. Though sarcoids are the most common skin tumor of horses, they are also one of the most misunderstood maladies of horses.
Here is a hug & a Wednesday vote :)

Kathy and I continue this tradition
by raising horses with as much Texas Blue Bonnet, Plenty Coup, Ambrose and
Blue Valentine blood as possible, hoping to preserve the heritage of these
great horses. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

Everet Shaw, who rode his share of great steer roping horses, told Hyde
that Blue was the best horse at Cheyenne that year. Hyde and Del both felt
that Blue started out of the box quicker and could catch cattle easier than
any horse they had ridden. The combination of Blue's athletic ability and
Del's training made him hard to beat. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

The tradition continues when... my mother, Dede (Buster's daughter) married my father , Hyde. Hyde started breeding Ambrose mares to Hayes' Plenty Coup, then took that cross and bred to Blue Valentine. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

Hyde inherited from his father the satifaction of riding a good horse he knew he had raised. In the fall of 1956, Ken Gunter gave Del Haverty the pick of the Red Man colts. Del picked a blue roan stallion named Blue Valentine. Del trained Blue to rope calves, tie-down team rope, and haze dogging steers. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

As a respected horseman, King had judged the first Quarter horse show in Calfornia. He and his children were well known for their horsemanship skills. King & his son Hyde brought additional stallions to Wyoming. Including Ambrose & Patron. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

Charlie 8 months after being rescued

How could anyone throw away much less abuse such a sweet kind intelligent horse? I no longer ride Charlie and Charlie is no longer ridden, but it would be painful to him and I figure he has been through enough already. And so I retired him and now he is my BFF and big red dog. ~Thanks for voting~ **Copper**

Charlie says "unfortunately my new mom (Lahle) lost her own horse, just after I arrived at Far West Farms. She was absolutely devastated. Far west's kind barn manager knew how sad she was and let her take me on as a project since she really did not want anything to do with horses anymore and I did not want anything to do with people. We were a perfect match and bonded quickly, and before long, Far West made it possible for us to be together forever."

He was so starved he could only have hay and in carefully measured amounts and Charlie was not allowed to have any treats. When a horse is that starved uncontrolled refeeding can lead to terrible medical problems such as colic, laminitis kidney failure, and even death. As tempting as it is to just start throwing food at a starving horse, I would learn it is an art and should involve a vet or someone who has experience with refeeding.

Hi... Rode Darbs Thursday morning, in English. He threw a little attitude at the lope but i rode him through it. Then he was great, it was a little freaky when he decided to do a little buck. However, it's been really hot and humid here, not fun to be outside what so ever. Monday i am planning to ride again, i just cant wait for cold to arrive. Hope ya'll have had nice weather and a good Saturday. Leaving a afternoon vote, i will try and get on again Tuesday and tell about our ride. Thanks your votes!

Hope all is going well, fire is still burning but away from us now and towards the town of the Dalles, they brought in special structual fire fighters from Portland OR area because we are short on fire crew and equipment, the normal crews are on other fires, rode Lilly last night, almost fell off, from a quick bolt, our neighbor kid was out killing farmits, and walked out from behind a tree, in camo cloths , man those quick side ways bolts hurt, she hasn't done that for a while , after I did my emergency stop I took her back to my neighbor so she could look him over then she was okay with him , I thought I had been exposing her to alot of weird stuff that moves makes noise ect.. gonna have to even more, I was fortunate to stay on I was in my english saddle which is only step up from barback I swear, all I can say is I was lucky to not be on the ground ! Love Suz and Lilly

A facebook donor sent a donation for Charlie's bail. [God bless you Amber Reed and anyone else who also helped raise Charlie's bail.] Rescue day 2-September 2,2012: A kind woman, a local trained, took Charlie. I think she may have even contributed yo, or paid the rest of his bail. But she was the one who took responsibiity for him and saw that he got immediate veterinary treatment. The trainer had a friend another trainer who was looking for a school horse and she saw how sweet Charlie was and had high hopes that with proper care he could be a strong, healthy, horse again.
