I had a nice day off. It was sunny but the wind chill was cold. The boys just grazed all day while I did a few chores and even took a 15 minute nap! In the afternoon I actually saw geese flying back north, I guess we are having a early spring. I thought all my HC friends up north would find that to be uplifting news!!! I will try and ride Tuesday when I'm off and if not I am off Friday and Saturday and it will be in the 70's again. I can't hardy wait ♡

Buddy Guy here I come...
Thanks for the visit, I can only blog on weekends...So after weeks of scouring the Buddy Guy website and checking the Canadian appearances, remember I was hoping he would add London. He didn't, but one day about a week ago I saw a small blurb that said Buddy Guy in Kitchener Ontario, I thought it must have been a previous show, but I checked it out and sure enough he is only playing two Canadian stops on this tour, Toronto and Kitchener. Kitchener is pretty close to us, but when I went to the Box Office there were only "nose bleed" seats left. I was so upset that this show was not on the Official buddy Guy website and all the great seats were sold already. Remember no one has worse luck than me...Then I saw an ad for two front row seats for re sale. David warned me that ticket fraud is a big deal, so be very careful. Long story short, turns out the man that purchased these tickets is also a huge fan, however, he has a vacation conflict for the day of the show, he wasn't sure they would be back in time so he decided to sell the tickets. He wanted the same as he paid, not looking to make a profit. I contacted the Box Office to verify that these were in fact legitimate seats and after they confirmed it, I said SOLD. April 20, Centre in the Square Kitchener Ontario. early retirement present for me. I posted a pic of the theatre, and the two yellow dots are our seats. I'm so excited. Have a great weekend. Love Donna Lee

What a surprise to see sweet Kisses as HOTD. I will have to send Stephanie a messages. She just sent me a bunch of pictures of Kisses about 2 days ago, so I will have to post them. One is of her daughter, 5 riding Kisses. Stephanie, said Kisses learned to just except a rider, and saddle that riding is just second nature to Kisses. That you for the vote, it is very much appreciated.

Sorry haven't been able to log on. Not having a good weekend/week. Yesterday got some much needed horsey time in. Had Cinnamon out for a while. Left her trim the foot long grass in the round pen area, rode a little (I finally was able to trot without holding onto the saddle horn, so I feel like I accomplished a bit), cantered a little, left her eat some more grass, then rode a bit more. cinnamon has definitely improved. Only twice she tried to rip the reins out of my hands for grass. She's at the right weight now, but I need to talk to the vet about her worm problem. I asked the farrier yesterday if she has registration papers at all and he is going to check. hopefully i can get those. Eli was stayign in shape yesterday too. He ran laps around the pasture. lol. Once, I took Cinnamon across two bridges, she was fine and then she realized she couldn't see Eli. She freaked out adn tried to run back to the barn. she hhalf reared at the first bridge whe I tried to slow her down, but once he was back in sight she calmed downand I was able to ride her at a walk back to the barn. Waiting on stone to be delivered for the round pen. It is taking forever. Hopefuly it gets here soon. Thanks for HOTM everyone! I felt kinda bad that Caly didn't win, but hopefully she will run again sometime!
It was fun to share Eli's story wtih you all. I'm not sure how mny votes we ended up with exactly, but when I checked last it was about 300-310.

Happy February, the last few days have been beautiful, only in the 40*s but no rain and really cold mornings! Lilly an I have been on a lot of rides this winter and walks everyday, Ive started work back on the orchard, a few hours here and there, ordered all my fencing to fence 3 acrea's behind our house it will be here Friday, it will be so nice to have more pasture for Lilly and the goat boys, they eat down the other small pastures in the summer, it will be great because when I walk up to the orchard for harvest I can put them in there and not feel bad that their bored and have no food to graze on, I hope you all have a wonderful week love Suz, Lilly and the goat boys

Sat. & Sun were just beautiful. It was sunny and Sat. was 78 and Sun. was 81. I got all my to-do list complete Saturday and Sunday I hauled out to the lake to meet Bill & his wife Angie. This did not go well, we got about 1 mile out and her horse bucked her off. It's her daughter's horse but has rode him before and he was fine. I believe some people just shouldn't ride. She try's to ride because of Bill's love of horse's and riding. That doesn't work though in a lot of cases. Needless to say Deacon and I stayed with Angie while Bill ponied her horse back to the trailer and unhooked his trailer and came out to pick her up. I rode back by myself but I enjoyed it, haven't rode alone in a long time. After getting home really early, I messed around with the horses at home some and then just relaxed and watched them graze. Have a wonderful week every one!

IS IT SPRING YET???
Yesterday morning after their breakfast I put them out, it seemed to be going OK, but then the wind came up, it was stupid, both of them tearing around. There is still quite a bit of ice under the snow, so to be safe back inside, after lunch the wind died down, the sun came out and it was quite mild, so out we went. Looks like today will be the same thing, rain moving in around lunch. Enjoy your day, one more closer to spring...Love Donna Lee

I've made lots of progress with Eli since he's been here (even though it feels as though I've done nothing to improve him). I've had him for almost 7 years now.
Today I will give an example of Eli's story continuing. Last night (this is why I couldn't blog everyone), after I got home from where I volunteer, I went to feed my own critters. After feeding sheep, cats, chickens, and heading over to the barn, I discovered Cinnamon had a bit of an attitude Thursday. I guess Eli tried to get in Cinnamon's food (like he so often tries to do) and she kicked him in the face (which she always tries to do, but most of the time misses him) and scraped hair and the top layer of skin off of his face above his left eye. Those two are still not getting along today. They are both acting moody. I discovered that cinnamon is "wormy" so the worms must be immune to the wormer. I'm going to maybe switch her to the Ivermectin paste to try. At least we know one of the reasons why she's been having a digestion problem (and been moody, what's new about that though!)
Today, also, I will answer some questions...
Why do we homeschool? Well, mainly because of bullying. I've never gone to a public school, but my friend from church who goes to the school we would've gone to had we not done homeschooled, is bullied all the time (a lot!). She was telling me about a fight that happened at her school last week. I am glad that we homeschool. The only thing is, there are still some bullies... they are my brothers haha.
We don't do a lot of stuff on the computer for homework. Just sometimes. We aren't geniuses, but being homeschooled definitely has its advantages. Most people act like we aren't socialized. I can say that definitely isn't true. Sure I don't talk to many people my age. I find it much easier to socialize with adults most times. In fact, all of my closest friends are 50-60 years older than me. One other advantage is I can go to a horse show and say it is a field trip! lol
So far, Eli has 280+ votes as of about 7:00 this morning. Later I'll try and get some pictures uploaded on Eli and Cinnamon's pages.

The round pen, as soon as it is finished, will be my main place to work with Eli. (I'm really excited about it!)
First thing is to let him inside the pen to get used to it. Then I have a whole list of things we need to work with him on starting with some of the simpler things to make the harder ones easier.
Today, I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone for voting. Don't know if we'll get HOTM, but either way, the votes are much appreciated. Especially since I can't log on sometimes.
A lot of people are surprised at my age. I'm 15. Same as Eli. He will be 16 in May. His birthday is on his profile. Mine is September 15th. I've been homeschooled all my life. Everyone always says I'll be a writer, but I really don't know. I do like to write, but I never know how to end stories. So Eli's story doesn't really have an ending. That's what is nice because his story continues still. We will still have our ups and downs, but there's one thing that I'll never regret is bringing that fluffy black mini horse home that one day.

After our trip to Washington and back, I started working with Eli at least once or twice a week. I didn't accomplish much because I couldn't keep Eli's attention. I tried walking him down the trail to work on leading him and he completely freaked out and just kept trying to bite me or rear up and I couldn't get him to move out of one spot. He wouldn't go farther on the trail and he wouldn't go back to the barn. We were stuck. Then he took off towards the barn. He was still acting funny and I decided it was time to quit for the day. After that I only worked with Eli once a week because that was all I had time for. We tried to teach him how to longe. I ran with him and someone held onto a rope in the middle of the circle. This worked the best and we were finally getting somewhere, but I had to get him to run by himself because it was too much for me to be running with my knees how they are. Gradually, I got so busy that I couldn't even work with Eli once a week. I didn't like that he ended up a pasture ornament again and I still don't like it, but there's no way I can continue his training without somewhere where I can get his full attention. In November last year, we rented a post pounder and put in a bunch of posts for new pasture space. We had several left over posts, so we put them in for a 40' round pen. It's probably not as big as it should be, but I figured it'll be OK since Cinnamon most likely won't be inside it much if even at all.

Eli has a little over 200 votes now.

Jumping back to the end of Summer 2014, I was riding my mom's bicycle (she can't ride it anymore after several back surgeries and my bike was too small) and took it down around our driveway. At this time, Cinnamon was still in the pasture there, so I was going to see her. It was starting to rain so I figured I better not spend too much time with Cinnamon once I got down the hill. Next thing I knew, I blacked out and when what seemed like I "woke up", I was laying on the driveway, knee had piercing pain, my arm was very badly scraped and the bike was on top of me. I got up slowly, I didn't get knocked out, but it happened so fast that it was almost like I passed out or something, but I didn't. Maybe I closed my eyes, but I don't know for sure. I was wearing a t-shirt, so I could see that my left arm was horrible looking. It wasn't bleeding, but close to it and I'm a big baby about blood, especially if it is mine and it hurts (lol). Nothing seemed to be broken, but my left knee had excruciating pain. I was able to get up and walk through the yard to get out back of our house to the pavilion. That was where my family was sitting. The jeans I was wearing were somewhat tight, so I couldn't roll them up to see my knee, so I changed to shorts quick and then I saw my knee. I was thankful I was wearing jeans when it happened or my knee would've looked worse than my arm. My whole knee was black and blue. Like a huge bruise. It hurt at any slightest touch and constantly felt like pins and needles. The bike was OK but I was beat up pretty bad. This was after the whole accident with Cinnamon, so this was another factor that played in the reason why I didn't ride Cinnamon again till Winter. Honestly, I was more afraid that I wouldn't be able to ride than I was of Cinnamon. Until Summer 2015, my knee was still healing. The bruise was fully gone by Winter in 2014, but the pins and needles and numbness stuck around till last year. That's when I had another accident.....

When I went out on Thursday to see the herd, they were so funny...it made my day. We drove up and they all stopped and stared as usual when we arrive. Then when I walked out into the pasture to greet them, the first one to come up to me was my boy Lucky. They each then came up to me to greet me and I petted and spoke to them. Then I started walking around trying to find the least muddy spot to walk back to the barn and Lucky was right behind me following me. I turned my head and to my amazement found they were all following me in a straight line, one behind the other. I led them to the barn they followed my path, like they didn't want to get their feet muddy either. My husband saw them and said they looked like a bunch of puppy dogs following me around. lol I put them in their stalls, gave them carrots for their treat. Later on we gave them their wormer which they all took good, then we fed them and turned them out. They are such funny creatures...you got to love em! Here's a vote.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend with all this horrible weather around. We are cold but sunny for the weekend. Cliff is finally able to walk and get around again thank God and thanks for the prayers everyone. That was the longest couple of weeks and I am hoping he will pick up some chores to help him get stronger too LOL
The horses have been muddy to groomed to look beautiful just to turn around and get muddy again. They have had their hooves trimmed (had Deacons shoes taken off for a few months) they have received their booster of Flu/Rino, picked up their feed. I did have to put Whiskey on antibiotic's. I turned them out last Friday and was watching them graze and I noticed Whiskey's sheath area was very large and swollen. Doc was out of town so the secretary called him and explained what he looked like and had me come pick up the med's and I took him in on Monday. The swelling was down and Doc kinda turned the skin where I could see a open sore on the inside. He has been biting at that area for months and I have been treating the outside area but didn't think to look inside. Anyway, he gave me some stuff to put on the sore and of course we are finishing the antibiotic's and all should be ok. I will keep you posted.
Now, I have been extremely busy at work during the week and I really don't see that changing so I may only be able to blog on the weekends but I will continue to vote HOTM & HOTD. I will try to see what I can do and maybe at least leave a update under one of my horses like Donna Lee does :) ♥

Because Cinnamon was across the road now with Eli, I wasn't doing much with her. My fear of her only grew once again because I wasn't able to work with her. Weeks turned into months, then it was Winter. No way I'd be getting someone to come out with me to ride in this weather. This was winter 2014. I had now turned 14 in September of that year. I decided that when I fed the animals, I'd brush Cinnamon while she ate. This worked well and eventually I was starting to not be afraid of her once again. Then came the one day in the middle of winter that I did ride. There was no snow. I got back in the saddle and just the pure joy of being up there got rid of every fear that I had. I rode one more time that Winter, when there was snow... Cinnamon did not cooperate well being away from Eli. Usually I "steer" her with my legs and get a better reaction than neck reining or using the reins alone. That became a problem that day I rode because of something that happened to me. I will explain tomorrow.

Marshmallow was OK, she just got some skin scraped off of her leg from cinnamon's hoof. The weeks after the accident with Cinnamon were the worst. I knew Cinnamon would be better off in the pasture with Eli, but yet I had so much on my mind. What if we end up with a foal? Yes, Cinnamon is older, but she's a mare, Eli's a stallion. What if she did get pregnant and she or the foal or both wouldn't make it? What if Eli teaches her his bad habits and she stats nipping? What if she kicks Eli and hurts him? I'm not supposed to go across the road by myself to ride etc. I used to ride her every day before the accident. Surely she'll become a pasture ornament just like Eli if we move her across the road. Then I wouldn't be able to see her every day either. As you can tell, I was worried.... the day came though, when we moved her across the road. I didn't want to, but Eli needed a pal too and that's who I was thinking of (as well as myself) when I got her after all. We locked Eli in his stall and opened his top door so that they could meet through a barrier. My dad held on to Cinnamon as I snapped pictures (this is a moment that is unforgettable!). Eli and Cinnamon touched noses and were getting along great and then he tried to nip her. WHY, ELI? She jumped back... then she wouldn't get near him again. Dad decided to let Eli out then. I watched for hours worrying about them both. Eli would continually nip at Cinnamon, then in return, Cinnamon would kick him. Once she hit him in the chest with one hoof and the face with the other. This was when I said, "this is ridiculous. He's wheezing and can barley breathe. They're going to end up killing each other. Maybe we should just divide them with a temporary fence till they get to know each other. That would've been a problem though because the way we'd have to divide the pasture, Cinnamon would've ended up with a pasture the same size as the one she shared with the sheep girls. I decided that we'd just let them. After a few weeks again, they were getting along well, but they still repeat the same process several times a day. Eli nips, Cinnamon kicks him. Yet they are inseparable.... the two trouble makers... they are a good match.

I had a friend over from church this one Saturday. She has ADHD. she loves horses and was great grooming etc. but when it came to riding, I think she got bit too overconfident. I made the mistake of not setting rules to begin with. I'm not a bossy person so it's not like me to think of things like this. Of course I was careful to explain that Cinnamon could kick when we're grooming and bathing her, so we must be careful while walking behind her. My fear of Eli was diminishing as I got to work with Cinnamon more. I rode her practically every day for 15-30 minutes. Cinnamon wasn't used to going longer without grass. We had her tied and grooming/bathing her for almost an hour and a half, then rode her and let her eat. Once again, I made a mistake of getting Cinnamon out to ride again. I had just turned off the electric fence when I heard my friend from church yell, "cool!". I turned around to see Cinnamon bucking and running. I walked as quickly as I could to tell her to get out of the pasture, but I was too late. Cinnamon kicked again and this time struck her in the chest. She flew through the air and landed on her feet by the fence that I had just turned off. She sort of sat down slowly, then let out a shrill scream. By this time, Cinnamon was going crazy just running and my friend was laying down in the pasture while my dad was making sure she OK. I was scared to death and saw Marshmallow (my little Westie dog) creating a barrier between Cinnamon and my dad and friend. I reacted quickly and grabbed the lead rope from the ground and chased cinnamon to a corner of the pasture. Marshmallow had now been trampled and seeing that I had the situation under control, limped away "crying". I grabbed Cinnamon, my heart racing and all I could do was cry. I put Cinnamon back in the smaller pasture and thought to myself, "What just happened here?" I guess it was the adrenaline rush that kept me from being scared to death catching Cinnamon. We spent that night at the hospital till 1 in the morning. My friend was OK, I was slightly scared of Cinnamon, and on top of that, wondering how Marshmallow was.
