Thank you for the visit and vote! I will certainly post more pictures!! Buckshot is just a baby so I'm sure I will have PLENTY of questions!! First question is how to really introduce closer contact and posting? When I post he will either immediately pick up the canter or stop. He is very sensitive to every little thing, which is good! But I'm not sure if there's something I'm doing wrong :/ And as far as the contact, he throws his head the entire ride if I take any more contact than the loose western rein he's used to. I am thinking about getting him a double jointed snaffle. I read in HI that it may be better for very sensitive horses.

Well I personally have never trained a horse, but I have a few ideas. Those are really good/ tough questions! For your first question, it really does sound like he is very responsive, which you're right, that is nice. But a horse may be a little too responsive, which means you may have to desensitize him to certain things, such as you posting on his back. I think the most important thing is to make sure you are posting correctly first. Try it out on other horses if you can and if possible, get pointers from other riders or an instructor. And while you post on Buckshot, make sure you are not posting too high (make it barely noticeable at first, so he gets accustomed to the movement on his back.) Also DO NOT lean forward, which really makes a horse heavy on the forehand and speeds them up (that's what I tend to do myself). Lastly, the speed of your posting really affects how fast your horse trots too. If you can (it takes leg muscle) slow your posting motion down to the speed you want to go, and hopefully he will respond.

For accepting the bit, if you are still using a leverage but, definitely take that out (excluding a kimberwicke, although I'd suggest not using that either). A plain snaffle would probably be best, like you said. And all I can think of for this would be to make contact and hold it there until he relaxes or behaves well, then release. Start at a walk and then build speed later while adjusting to contact. Anyways, I'd suggest searching the internet for ideas too, if the problems persist. I hope I could help! ;) Voted

Buckshot is very handsome. You should definitely add more photos of him. I ride English primarily, so if you ever have any questions you need help with, feel free to shoot me a question. ;) Voted!
