How We Met

I'm not sure of her exact age. Vet says about 19 and farrier says mid-20's because of her teeth. Her teeth aren't the greatest so she could be younger and just have "old horse" teeth

We Heard about a free horse and I thought she'd be a perfect horse for me.
I don't know much about her past. Her right back leg got caught in barbed wire when she was younger so she has a scar there. I don't know much else about her past though.

On the 1st of Aug I will add you to my tag line with your horses #-ok :) it's that time of the year that daily cool downs are part of my afternoon duties! The boys enjoyed the carrot party!! Whiskey will go to the vet tomorrow for his yearly shots. I will probably do some things in the house until around 5-5:30 then get out again, have a great day and a great one tomorrow ♡

It has been a super busy past week!!! Last Sunday I went to a jumping Grand Prix with some of my barn friends. Boy, was that ever cool!!! Most of the rest of the week was filled with work and helping with a moving sale. I would love to get some riding in, but not with how hot it has been. Yesterday was 90+ and pretty humid...yucky! Hope everyone is staying cool and here's a vote!

Another very hot afternoon but I got out there and pulled off fly masks, filled water tanks and watered a few plants and trees. Temps have stayed a hair under 100 but the "feels like" have been in the triple digits. I turned the boys out to graze while I cooled down. This is not my favorite time of the year it’s just too hot! Happy trails and Have a wonderful day “)

I can mention it for you but you may want to rethink the month you want to run. You need to be present each day of your run. It does take alot of commitment to run for HOTM and it isn't as easy as it looks. But you can try, let me know ♡ what can I say, it was hot hot hot this weekend. Had short early rides in the morning, just enough so they would remember they are riding horses! Had chicken and ribs and my grandson stayed Saturday night with us. Everything is so dry. It has not rained one day in July here. Have a wonderful Monday!!!

♥ we got the 3 pastures shredded plus the home paddock area, now the place looks so good again. The tractor had to get a new starter and battery so they were pretty grown over. I kept the lawn area mowed and now the whole place is BEATIFUL!!! It was soooo windy yesterday but it was still in the mid 90’s so too hot to ride when I got off work. I will ride Friday morning early. Have a great day!!!

We received 1 ¾” of rain last night-the wind was unbelievable!!! I had to go and get feed and grocery’s yesterday and by the time we were finished it was too hot to ride. I did get fly stuff on the boys and checked the fly mask and then just watched them graze for the evening! Working the weekend but will try to do something with them after work but it will be to muddy to ride. Here is our finial tidbit on the Fabulous Rocky Mountain Horse Breed!
*TOBE was used for breeding until July of his thirty-fourth year, and he passed on his gait, disposition, and other great qualities to his offspring. It has been said that TOBE's progeny followed in his "perfectly-timed" footsteps. TOBE sired many fine horses before his death at the ripe old age of thirty-seven. One outstanding trait passed on was longevity, as many of his offspring were still breeding into their late twenties and early thirties.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Thank you for voting for Whiskey while I was unavailable the last few days. Whiskey sends you all double loves and hugs ♥ I am actually off work tomorrow and back the weekend!
* In the early 1960s, Sam Tuttle managed the trail riding concession at the Natural Bridge State Park in Powell County, Kentucky. He had as many as fifty horses there, including TOBE. This stallion was often seen tied to the hitching post alongside all the mares. He became quite well known in the ten or so years he was ridden there. Besides breeding, TOBE was used as a trail horse. He carried Sam, and sometimes the trail guides who worked for Sam, with sure-footed ease over mountainous terrain for many years. Although Sam would allow other people to ride TOBE occasionally, it was always a ride closely supervised. He loved to show off his beloved stallion, but also kept a close eye on him. Everyone who rode TOBE enjoyed his gentle temperament and comfortable gait. It amazed people to think the well-mannered horse they were riding was indeed a breeding stallion.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

* Even through the hard times of the Depression and World War II years, Sam Tuttle kept a sizable herd of thirty to forty horses on his farm. Sam is considered as the man most responsible for the survival of the Rocky Mountain Horse. TOBE was the primary Rocky Mountain stallion used in Sam's breeding program. In the 1950s, many people were selling their stallions, and the horse population in general was rapidly declining due to tractors and farm machinery available. Even so, breeders remembered TOBE, and he was always in demand for stud service. People brought their mares to TOBE from several different states, and he was as famous in Estill County as MAN O' WAR was in Lexington, Kentucky. Everyone who rode TOBE fell in love with him. TOBE's offspring were always in demand, and Sam never had any trouble selling all the Rocky Mountain Horses he could produce.

We have received 3” of rain with this Hurricane Bill. It is going to rain through Thursday evening. We are wet and soggy for sure…..the boys are looking a little muddy they love it thought!!!
*The Rocky Mountain Horse Association's (RMHA) rendition of the history of the breed states there was a gaited colt brought from the Rocky Mountain region of the United States to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in eastern Kentucky around 1890. He was referred to as "the Rocky Mountain Horse" by the local Kentucky people because of the area of the country from which he had come. He is the horse credited for the start of the Rocky Mountain Horse breed. Little is known about this foundation stallion, but oral history indicated he was chocolate-colored with flaxen mane and tail, and he possessed a superior gait. The stallion was bred to the local Appalachian saddle mares in a relatively small geographical area and the basic characteristics of a strong genetic line continued. This prized line of horses increased in numbers as years went by, and these are the horses known today as Rocky Mountain Horses.

I am off work tomorrow so I will phone vote as many as possible. We had a light shower yesterday evening which we needed. It freshened up the grass it was getting pretty dry. I just need the rain not to fill our lakes and streams like it did a few weeks ago! Mccown at Lake Whitney is still not open. Have a wonderful day ♡
*The families of eastern Kentucky who owned these horses were not wealthy and could not afford to spend a lot of money on the upkeep of their horses. Unlike Kentucky Thoroughbreds that were typically owned by wealthy people, the gaited horses of eastern Kentucky received no special care, and as a result, most of the weak ones did not survive. These horses withstood the harsh winters of eastern Kentucky with minimal shelter, and they were often fed "fodder", a kind of rough silage. Some had to exist on whatever sustenance they could find. So, like deer, they ate the bark off trees when they were hungry. Only the horses that survived these extreme conditions lived to reproduce their kind.

✞ Whiskey has a fast walk that is like the true gait of a Rocky Mountain but it isn’t as pronounced like the other RM horses I see, it’s a little different. He has the smoothest gallop and run. He has the energy to go go go. He will go no matter how long you want to ride-his battery never seems to run out but that is the breed, again they started out as a utility horse!! Whiskey stays to himself; he doesn’t really hang with the other 2, only once in a while. Deacon picks him as a favorite for a day or 2 then they separate and Rocket is Deacons main herd mate. * During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the rural inhabitants of eastern Kentucky considered these saddle horses to be horses for all seasons. They were sure-footed, easy-gaited, and the mount of choice for postmen, doctors, and traveling preachers. People used them for plowing small fields, herding cattle, traveling through the steep and rugged trails, and driving the buggy to church on Sunday. Horses were not a luxury, but a necessity. Every horse had to earn its keep and be extremely versatile. It was not a matter of having horses around to use every once in a while; these horses were worked hard, every day. At the end of the day they were exhausted, but possessed enough stamina to continue on, day after day.
Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Whiskey’s mane & tail change colors several times in the year by going lighter then darker. His body color changes as well. He truly loves his bath time and grooming, he trailers well in any type I load him in, and will load without heisting at all. He is also my bareback horse. Perfect back for it so if I don’t feel like putting the saddle on I can always just get myself up on him and go at any time. He is the type that will come to you every time from the field or anywhere. I guess that’s the treat hound in him lol.
* The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. At the time of its beginnings, there was no understanding of the need to document anything about these horses. The people living in this region were quite unaware that one day their utility horses would become the foundation of a special breed of horse. The existence of these horses was practically a secret for many years to all but the inhabitants of this region.

Few things about Whiskey: The 1st few times I rode Whiskey my arms were wore out and tired. I was thinking “man what in the world”. He did not and could not Neck rein. He was very hard in the mouth, no flex in his neck but Karla & Tim told me he needed that kind of work. Tim felt he didn’t ride him in collection and so on. He was Tim’s first horse. We would get under the canopy of the trees on the trails and he would do great with my seat aids which I was happy about. That is how I ride him, with my seat and leg aids. I guess we all are supposed to do that RIGHT!!!! I then started planning my next few months of teaching him to neck rein. I just went back to the beginning and put him in an “O” ring snaffle and took it from there. Every day his personality would shine and he entertained Cliff & me with his antics! Thank you for your support we appreciate it!

Yup new horse!!;) My sis was round-penning and desensitizing her yesterday and it was thundering (so I didn't even DARE ride Cowgirl lol!) and two twin lightning strikes struck somewhere in town (it looked like it anyway!) and just as I told her that, this unbelievably LOOOUUUDD thunderclap shook the ground and lasted forEVER!!! It was really really loud, I thought I was gonna faint (I don't know why, my knees were shaking and my hands, and I felt faint!!And I usually LOVE thunderstorms!!) and it spooked Tempi and Cowgirl SO bad, same with me and my sister!! OMW it was SOOO LOUD!! So my sister threw the rope over Tempi a few more times and was like "That's IT! I'm DONE!!!" :) So she un-haltered Tempi and we ran up to the shed, right in time, cuz another loud thunderclap and twin lightning strikes occurred right after that! IT started pouring too then:) We've been having soo many thunderstorms...I'm hoping really bad we can ride 2moro! My gramma said she wouldn't mind riding, 'as long as we put her on a gentler one' she says!;) OK talk to ya later!!

Hhhheeyyy!! Long time no see:( I missed you while I"ve been off! Here's a copy and paste of a paragraph I wrote...I gotta do school so I'll quick slip in a cheat paragraph with copy and paste!;)

How's it going? I haven't been very active lately, it's going to be worse the next few weeks becuz the grandparents are coming!! YAYA!;) The weather should be clearing off soon, I"m going to be working Cowgirl soon on learning to run from a standstill, and also getting serious on the barrels. I'll probably be working on alittle bit of flexing for softening, better shoulder and ribcage control, and more roll-backs, also the One-Rein Stop to where she'll stop with barely a touch on the reins. I'd still like to teach her Wylene Wilson's signature instant stop and dismount... ever since I saw it I determined that SOMETIME I'm gonna do that! Wylene is somethin' else;) OK have a great Monday and rest of the week since I probably won't get on much!

Hi Cinnamon, here's a vote for ya buddy. Well I'm about ready to pass out! Worked myself to the bone today. Moved the rig over and did just a little packing. Then lunged Indy. Lunged and rode Paige, nice workout. The finally at 3 pm ate lunch. Then went and mowed the lawn and back by the manure pile. Spent some time over by the new neighbors, they took down all the birch trees between our property lines. Looks so much cleaner now and I don't have to worry about another one falling on my trailer like 2 years ago! Well time for some Aleve and sleep! LOL! In that order too! Marion and the blondes.

Got the Beast hooked up to the LQ Trailer and will position it tomorrow to start loading up. Lunged Indy and Paige and then did showmanship with Paige. This afternoon they all got pasture time outside on grass. Happy Horses! And yes one happy donkey too! Pastures were a little soft and they all left devits running and playing for about 30 seconds, then it was serious grass time! LOL! Marion and the blondes.

I'll use ole Blue if I need to run out. Then home and worked Paige on the showmanship patterns that will be at the show next weekend. They had 2 out of 3 patterns posted all ready. Tomorrow I'll ride the horsemanship patterns and put them together. Only one pattern out for Ranch Horse and it's an easier one for us! Thank goodness! Will put bits and pieces of that together too. If I do the entire pattern as written, somebody becomes a smarty pants and tries to do it for me! LOL! What a thunder storm came thru just as I was walking out of the barn this afternoon! OMG! Hi Cinnamon, here's a vote for ya. Monday off for me, and Indy, but Paige got to work on the lunge line to keep her moving and try and loosen up that neck of hers. Rain, rain and more of it. Just about an inch as of noontime today. I'm hoping that since tomorrow is day five, she'll be better. Last year it took five days for her and the three for Indy. She's just so sensitive to the shots. In the fall, she only gets the Rhino/Flu and that takes her three days to get over. So like Larry says, if we space them out, she'll be sore 3 days at least after each dose. So 5 days and be done with it. She lunges very willingly and does her showmanship work, she just can't do lateral and down motion of the head. But she's loving the extra hugs and kisses and treats! LOL! Marion and the blondes.

So worth all the rotten weather that was going on in Feb. and Jan. And what better way to end those days than to ride?! They are almost shedded out, just have some jaw-line hair LOL.
Well, I gotta get going, I've been looking for a barrel-racing trainer or horse-trainer to work with or for, but it's so frustrating. I can't find any so far, they all live about 2 hours away! So tired of it. But maybe I'll find one soon...maybe:-/
