How We Met

I'm not sure of her exact age. Vet says about 19 and farrier says mid-20's because of her teeth. Her teeth aren't the greatest so she could be younger and just have "old horse" teeth

We Heard about a free horse and I thought she'd be a perfect horse for me.
I don't know much about her past. Her right back leg got caught in barbed wire when she was younger so she has a scar there. She was kept in a pasture with a paint gelding. she wasn't taken out much, was in need of a major brushing and cleaning, didn't have much weight on her and I brought her home to fix her up.

*Thanks Brooke and Copper for vote #1,000!*

I nearly came home with a kitten or two. Told the guy if he could not find homes for them, I would take them. Some chicks I liked, but they were banty size, and it takes the same amount of feed to feed the banty hens, as a big one. But I had a good time, that's what is important. Took one of my helmets, to give to one of the 4-Her, since this was a 4-H fund raiser.

Between getting the goat, a wether, who must think I am his Mom, all he says is MaMaMama....smile emoticon And the guinea pig, named Raisin. and I do not have his pen/cage ready yet. Guinea hens that do not want to get along with each other, and two turtles that need to go outside, but with our temps still in the 20's in the morning, I do not want to take the chance on them getting too cold. All 22 of my tomato plants froze, even with being covered. And the little ponies (3) young ones ran right threw the electric fence this morning, I think they are afraid of the goat, who is still in the shed. I guess, everything sounds normal here.......wink emoticon

Finally we have heat and hot water. Mike forgot to turn up the thermostat to tell the stove to heat the house. :).
Since it rain again last night, we will do some running this morning. Have to finish putting in some potatoes in the garden and check to see if anything "besides" weeds are growing.

A "late" Happy Mother's Day to you, even if you are only the mother of 4 legged ones.
Busy weekend....hatched out 42 out of 48 eggs, for me that is great. Sold 8 guinea hens on Saturday and 15 chicks, but out poor outdoor stove is taking all that money to fit it. Now the best new, Pickles finally progress to a point that he can have his halter OFF. Does not run away, and no long afraid of hand movements....sometimes, he moves his head, but not his feet. Been following me around, like I am his best friend. Negative side of no halter, is....I can not tell Pickles and Clippers apart(from just their heads), without looking at their feet. :)

Hubby was gone yesterday, drove with a friend to the VA in Minneapolis, so I never had even 1 dirty dish to wash until he got home. Got so much work done. Emptied, (again 3rd time) rain water out of the sunk in bath tub, that is used for the summer fish pond, used water to give to all the newly planted trees, so some of the water carrying was a bit of a hike. After filling the horse tanks, pulled the hose over to the fish pond and filled it, of course first had to clean it, because of all the leaves and sticks that fall in. Went and caught all 7 little gold fish, by hand, and put them in. I try to make it as natural as possible. With rocks and later plants....the rocks are so "if" some little animal falls in, at least it can climb out on the rocks. Put turtles back in the pen, and added more rocks so it is easier for them to crawl out, that plastic does not give them any traction. Dragged the hose over and made muddle puddles for the pigs, then watered all the tomatoes plants, all 22 of them. Still have more to put out, but they are still to small. I carry them outside to set in the sun, and then back in for the night. Baby chicks got to go out in the sunshine in the outdoor pen, but sure were hard to round up to go back inside at 6, All the tomatoe plants, have to be uncovered in the morning, then recovered when it started getting hot, yep, it really got hot yesterday, up to 83 at one time. We go from 30 to 89+ in one day. Winter jacket to T-shirt. Cleaned out white guinea pen, brushed ponies, worked on picking up Pickles feet....he was very naughty when farrier was here...picked up his feet and his whole bod went with. But Clippers did the same thing, and his feet were picked up hundreds of time. Moved saddles to the shop so I could clean them later, took the huge plastic that covered them, out into the ponies pen, and used feed tanks and rocks,to hold down corners and then put its of feed on the plastic so the ponies could learn to walk on the plastic. Sure enough, girls are braver than boys. Paisley, and Mistic just walked right out, Pickles and Clippers had to check it out somewhat, before they went for treats. I brought the two huge balls out for them to play with, they like to follow them as they roll. Pickles and Paisley had them in their pen all winter. Later when it was dark, I went to lock chickens in, and all 3 of the younger ponies were laying down, so I sat between them, and rubbed them. Pickles just laid out flat and I got to rub his tummy, first time he did that. Usually he wants to get up, but tonight he felt comfortable just laying there. Did I clean house, well I did wash one load of clothes and hung them outside. That counts, somewhat, for housework, right!!

Whisper wants to know if you want to celebrate this weekend with her. I am making carrot and apple bars, if you can not make it, will have to send your share by "Pony Express".
Whisper and the little herd got their hooves all tidied up yesterday, they look so neat, and of course Mom's pockets are a lot more emptied. Now, the shots, and everyone will be ready to go dancing.

How is your week going?? Been planning on brushing everyone up to help with winter fuzzy wuzzy being gone, but just never have much time. Farrier is coming on Thursday the 5th, so want to have it done. Have to put a new door with hinges on one small chicken coop, clean out the fish bath tub pond, had it emptied or nearly, when it rained for a few days, and now it is full again. I care the water to newly planted little trees, which I stole from our woods, work on a fencing for the 2mt old chicks, finish clicking the rabbits tangled fur, she is long haired, and I never finishing doing her. Hatching out another batch of baby chicks, the other 15 are leaving on Saturday along with 8-10 guinea hens, then the rest can start free roaming. The hens have been laying and collected 36 of them and have set them 2 days ago, then will add 12 pheasant eggs in 2 more days, and 3 days after that fill in with some chicken eggs, depending on space. Still air incubator and I need to turn the eggs at least 4-5 times a day. It will e nice to have enough money to of course buy more feed, and not have to take from a different fund, might even have enough to pay into the fund for farrier work and shots.

A vote to share with little Eli from Whisper and the little herd.
Hubby, Mike, has been working the gardens up for the past few weeks. Got the fence up and yesterday afternoon planted root crops, like potatoes, carrot,....4 packages, by order of the horses, beets, radishes, and about dozen small tomatoes. Good thing we covered them, because temps were 29 and frost everywhere this morning. Tried to load pictures of the turtles and there new home....they are not in it yet, well, at least not all day, because it is too cold yet. But pictures would not load, perhaps too big. I will work on it tonight.

I will post the pictures of the two turtles on Kisses page if I find some time today. The water in the pond was super cold for them, and a shaded area. Pen is about 5ft tall, 6 w/8-10 feet long. I did replant the iris, added Stella O Day, and threw in some flower seeds. It already had hosas, Snow on the Mt, and another small ground cover plant, now all we need is warm weather so they can stay out in their new home. Temps were barely 40 when I came in from feeding.
Pickles is really starting to get better, let me walk him all the way to the pasture today, even if everyone else had run ahead of him, near the gate, he started to get antsy, so I walked him the other way, and then back to the gate. He is still so fuzzy with baby fur.

We did get the pond in, still have to move the cage over the top, but want to plant flowers and plants where the cage will go, but will have to steal violets, and day lilies from other areas because all I have in this area is Snow on the Mountain. Yes, we still have cold or cool weather mornings have been down to 28, but usually around 34. Spring will make it, I know, because my guinea hens have started laying.

Was busy digging a hole to put in the plastic pond for the turtles, have to be near a plug in, so that means next to the house. Hubby, finished digging it this morning. Have a long cage big enough to walk in, to put over the top and still have about 5-6 feet so they can crawl out of the water. I sure hope my flowers and plants grow like I picture them in my mind. We had snow/sleet/rain from last evening to this morning. So spring must be hiding again.

More rain today, like 5th day in a row. The temps are cool too, so outside work is like the rain....hit and miss. Rest of the week should be cool without too much rain. Been planting tomatoes in paper cups, for the garden. I do have about 20 tomatoes plants up about 6-8 inches, but these were a different kind. As long as it is raining, we will go for feed today, if we can get the topper back on the truck.

Quick voting this morning before I do chores Can hear the birds singing outside, and little chicks starting to peep in the incubator. Going to start putting in the pond for the turtles today, needs electric for the filters so thinking next to the house or even in the day lillys over by the garage, even have the large cage to put over the top of everything, to keep them safe. Want to dig now while the ground is soft, since it has rained the last two days. Ponies seem to like to stay inside again, before they kept walking to the door like they wanted out, but that means more pen cleaning. Been trying to keep it clean, so all I had to do was put down lime, to kill anything in the soil, (it has dirt floor), then the sawdust, and straw, before Mistic has to use it for her baby. She other wise will be outside all day, and come in at night. So much for a quick vote, huh. :)

The last two days, the morning temps have been chilly, hate to say cold, but compared to a week ago, they are COLD. Ice on the water tubs, and back to my winter jacket and gloves. Warms up enough for a hooded sweatshirt, and we nearly have the garden tilled, adding sawdust, and plus all the wheelbarrows of chicken coop sand, and the manure from the little pony pen, just need to work it in better, and put back up the fencing....which we took down to make the pig fence, since they were cattle and pig panels. Think about using the orange plastic type of fencing since it is just to keep the chickens out.

We had temps near 80 two days ago, this morning we have frost, and a slight chance of snow. We go from one end to the other with our weather.
I had to cover the little chick's cage last night, and lower their heat light, it's not really a "heat" bulb, it is a 75 watt one. what kind of chicken do you have, because I seen some blog, where you said, you belong to "back yard chicken" group.

☂ The rain hit us hard again this morning, another 1" at this point. Saw on the news that area lakes are closed including Lake Whitney & Lake Waco so I check channel 10 when I got to work, sure enough they are. Ho hum.....last year it stayed closed for nearly 3 months...I will call later and see if the day riding at Whitney is for sure. Maybe its just the boat dock area's. Lake Waco said the day riding side at Reynolds creek was closed for sure. All of this will move out this afternoon and we will have 2 days of nice weather then it's back starting on Sunday. Looks like my 3 day weekend will be mostly in door spring cleaning Ha Ha ☂

I got a pic of her separately and it's kind of hard to tell in the pic, but her tail now drags on the ground about 4-5 inches! Today I free longed her in the arena and snapped a pic as she trotted around me. She is doing well and looking good for being almost 28!

Whisper and the little herd are sending you a vote. Going to try to get a few wheelbarrow full of manure out of the little ponies pen. They like to go, right by the outside door, and it seems that does not get clean, because it has been frozen. Broke the fence post ponder yesterday, and had to call in the one we borrowed out. He brought it back, and will fix the broken one. Today, it feels like rain, so baby chicks have to stay inside, unless it gets sunny and warmer. They seem to enjoy being outside. I put some warm sand inside there cage, so they could play in it, they like to lay and dust their feathers in sand or soil. The big chickens have holes down about a foot or so, where they dust.

That's so cool that you're writing books. What are they about? Hope the publishing goes through soon.
It was beautiful here yesterday. After errands in the mornings, I spent the afternoon weed whacking, getting tomato holes ready, trimmed BJ'S and Allie's feet, and did groundwork with Allie. I didn't get in till around 8 and still had supper to make and a bath, so that's why I was on late last night. And that's when my daughter chose to come talk, so I had to just leave short brainless blogs for everyone. Oh well, I'm catching up this morning, lol. Hope you have a good sunday.

Yesterday, we got up to 40, and I think today should be nice. Snow is starting to melt already, just to make more mud, if that is possible. Now it snowed over night and softly raining now. So, hopefully, all the snow will be gone.
Was taking old hay off the garden, to the compose pile, they are falling apart to made lots of trips finally, got smart and used the wheelbarrow. This weekend, should be nice, so hope to get to the Central Wis Horse sale on Saturday, its a 4 day sale, but I never make plans, because I know I am not "aloud" to go to sales.....:), at least without someone to sit on my hands. Thank You for the kind words about Trixie. We always got all the grandkids pets, as soon a her Mom, got tired of them, but the good thing is we always get the grandkids, most of the summer, and weekends, because they want to be where their animals are. Of course, they are getting older, and now sports come first, but they always call or come each weekend. The turtles, are mud turtle or wood turtles. They are still in a tote, with lots of big rocks to crawl on. I have to put the fish back into the smaller tank today, and make a platform for the turtles to crawl on. I have BIG plans for the summer....just have not told hubby yet. Of course, I never told him about the new goat yet either....:).

We had a good and also bad day yesterday. My son called to ask if I still wanted a turtle or 2, someone at work was going to sell his, so we drove 100 miles to pick up the two turtles, and a small tank. Tito and Tiana, while there went to Farm and Fleet and picked up cat, dog, horse, chicken, baby chick food and light bullbs, and came out of Wausau a lot broker, and also had to put in a order from Richard, 7 yrs old, school fund raiser. We left early, because my other two grandsons stopped in at home, and said Trixie, their Sheltie, who lives with us, (long story instead of them, along with all their other pets) did not seem happy. I knew she did not feel good the last few days. She ate a good supper, and later on around 8 she started throwing up, and fell over, litter just left over, and a few minutes later she was dead. We hated to take her out this morning, Shadow, the Golden, was so nervous, like she did something wrong. Trixie was 17 yrs old, we have cared for her since she was about 2-3 mts old.
