How We Met

I'm not sure of her exact age. Vet says about 19 and farrier says mid-20's because of her teeth. Her teeth aren't the greatest so she could be younger and just have "old horse" teeth

We Heard about a free horse and I thought she'd be a perfect horse for me.
I don't know much about her past. Her right back leg got caught in barbed wire when she was younger so she has a scar there. She was kept in a pasture with a paint gelding. she wasn't taken out much, was in need of a major brushing and cleaning, didn't have much weight on her and I brought her home to fix her up.

*Thanks Brooke and Copper for vote #1,000!*

Busy Saturday, up at 5, and someone came to buy a few keets and the extra male guinea I had. Of course, she had to see the minis, because she has a mini donkey, and was planning on getting her a friend. She liked Paisley, and Clippers, so will be calling me back.

Going to storm today, Mike is taking Mikey to his dr. appointment, and will stop and get me "another" bag of chick starter. Probably, would not need it, but when I sell keets or chicks, I send some feed with them. Sometimes, a 3 pound coffee can full, and with the month old chicks eating like they were starving, 50 pounds goes very fast.
Humidity is so high that the floors, (wood) are wet. Everything is sticky, including my keyboard. Baby sitting 2 little yappers, (dogs) for the past week, Barky is the worst, because he likes to live up to his name. Chance is a Yorkie and wants out and two seconds later wants in....runs back and forth between the front and back door barking. I go to let him in and he is already running to the other door. Stay cool!!

My son's leg "finally" stopped leaking. They never took him off his warfin, so when he went in for his labs last Tuesday, the results should read 2 or 3, 7 means he is bleeding inside, well, his was "10". As soon as he stop taking the bloodthinner for 2 days his bleeding stopped and started healing up. I should have gave him "radiator "stop leak".
Trip to Bloomington, Mn was looooong, coming home took back roads so seen some different country. Got home around 9, still light enough to get chores done.
Took newly hatched keets out on incubator, I opened it slowly, and they started hopping out like "Popcorn", but best hatch ever for guinea hens, out of 40 eggs I have 31 babies....sadly no white ones, but lots of silver or gray ones. Too tired from riding, or as the saying goes...."Too pooped to Pop", to get much more done. I was hoping Mistit would have her foal, while I was not bothering her all day, checking for signs, but she and her fat little tummy were still there.

Thank You for your vote. Raining right now, so perhaps, I can get some time to put the ponies in one group, instead of 4 pages. But I am trying to clean up saddles so I can sell them, with this humidity some of my leather in the tack room is getting mold on it. My grandson is staying for a few days, and I will put his hands to work. Thank You again.

I guess I will never complain about the cold, when the heat is this bad. 10 o'clock and horses have all ran into the shed. We brought all the round bales in this morning, Mike brought them in, and I just help make sure he is getting them straight. So while he is doing that, I moved most of the baby chicks, now about 3 weeks old into the chicken coop, there is a separate little room in there, for feed, but feed never gets into it, so nice place for chicks. They have out grown their large rabbit cage. At least there is a window to open.
Baby guineas, (keets) are hatching now, I can hear them inside the incubator. Have another batch due next Saturday. Wanted to take them to the next swap on the 30th, but that is our family reunion, (Mike's side) this time near Minneapolis, about 3-4 hours away. Most people are staying over night, but we have no one to check on critters, so we will just go for a bit and come home. Stay cool, sorry I did not read any one's comments to me, so will try to catch up later on any news.

A vote from Whisper, Willow and the little herd. Cloudy today and is suppose to rain. Can not get 3 nice days in a row to make hay, and since we do not have equipment have to have neighbors help. I finished the garden, at least of pulling 5 gallon buckets of weeds out. I have been eating beets and carrots already, plus things that grow fast like lettuce and radishes. Cucumbers, winter and summer squash, way too many tomatoes, since I had to replant about 16 of them, I now have close to 25 plants, many just come up by themselves, and I move them to a row, or a place where something did not grow. Dill is growing here and there, but I also plant it in flower beds, since butterflies like to lay their eggs on it. Potatoes are now have flowers. Flower beds mostly can take care of themselves, since they are "grow where you fall" type gardens. Lots of them about 17 small ones, and all around the house. I have no color theme, just what the butterflies and birds like. I have one corner of the house, where the water hose comes out, that I need to redo, since I had to dig it up, but this year, I just planted pumpkins there, to keep the weeds down.

Good Morning vote from Whisper, Willow, and the little herd. "Today" I take it all back about Pickles being a "problem child", he was so good, I guess him having to be in the other pen, made him be on his best behavior. So, he got staked outside of the pen, (with Mistit) as a treat. Let me put his halter on and gave him a treat, and he followed me out, without tugging, did a few whoa, and "kissing" to step up. We'll see what the day brings with him.

Spent most of yesterday, in between the rain showers on my knees, not praying in church, but weeding the garden. Nearly caught up, still have the one row left between the potatoes and squash, planted another package of beets, because I have been picking nice size beets, and also carrots. The rabbits, Auroa, BB, and guinea pig, Raisin, said they are ready and taste great.Just North of us, road have been washed out, over 0 inches of rain, 3 people died. 30 some people, camping had to be rescued at a camping ground. Seen pictures, and its a messy. North of us is a big tourist area. I wish I had smaller gates to make little stalls, and a better way to clean them out. Right now, I have one big pen inside the shed, and a fenced in area under the lean-to part of the shed. So when I open back big door, it has a long 20 ft board up to keep ponies out of the small sq. bales of hay, and then the 2 side doors, its stays breeze and cooler inside, but also makes a messy with poop and being wet. So, I have been trying to see where I could bring Pickles in or outside the shed, daily to work with him, by himself, without all his little friends being in the way. I hope your weather clears up for you. We, too, have been getting rain, but I know enough not to complain. Nice yesterday, besides the rain, had around 70's.

Little pigs are getting very playful, I like to watch them play while I am trying to get caught up on weeding the garden. I am so surprised how much weeds grew in just a few days. Black sow only has 2, and white sow, 5. Last night Mother Nature put on a fireworks show. Nearly 2 inch of rain.
Been getting in short rides on Willow, Whisper is in heat, and I do not want her chasing Willow, because when she runs, is when she limps.

MaMa pig is fine. She gets up a lot more than what I remember our other sows, (from yrs ago) did, but I really think it was because the heat. The baby pigs are so cute and tiny compared to her, she is a good Mama. I see her push the babies into one spot with her nose, before she lays down. Her 350 pounds would surely, squash them.
I have my camera all ready. to take some first pictures of Mistit's foal. I just hope I figured out all the days right, by counting back 21 days from the first date that I was told she was bred. I still say she like her special treatment. Going to rain today. Yesterday, we moved the fence next to the woods getting ready to cut the hay field. Our son worked up a small deer plot, and we planted that with sugar beets. Moved little chicks out out to the shed into large rabbit cages and kept the baby keets in, well, until they get bigger.

Sometimes, a baby piglet gets stuck into the birth channel, they each have their own little sack, so there not like all together inside. If one get stuck, usually the first one, it takes a long time for MaMa to push it out. This sow had the first two stuck, both stillborn, second one was large and it was about 3-4 hours between the 2 of them.
I have been really watching Mistit, and letting her out staked out. Yesterday, she was laying down at lot, and rolling, but still no baby. Doing the math, from the days she gave me, counting back 21 days, so if she was bred, in August, she will be due, 10-16th of July. Figuring if she came into heat again in July, (this is when she got her stifle joint injury), then a month after that she would have been in heat around the second week of August.

Have a Happy 4th of July!!!
We weren't doing much today, hopefully plan of getting some house cleaning done. But, I am on "guinea watch", (a everyday thing here), to make sure they stay off the road. I am missing 2 guineas in the last 2 weeks, and baby keets, are hard to raise, either indoor or with Mom, so many do not survive, not sure why. I lost 4 in the last few days. Plan on riding Willow a bit more in the pasture latter today, should do it now, but trying to get a few more weeds pulled, clothes washed, and kitchen cleaned up. Last few days, it been run here and run there type of day, so never really finish anything. Hope you get to enjoy the fireworks someplace tonight.

Have to go to our little town 4th of July celebration in a bit, so sending fast vote. The Banker is a vet, and marching in the parade. Last night they picked up cross from the cemetery, put there for Memorial Day. Rode Willow again last night, and a bit in the morning. I mean just walking around the pen a few times. Her leg does not bother her, unless running, I see her lunge herself, when I come out with a rope, Stephanie said it was because she did not like her leg treated. So, I go out with the halter and rope, "ump-teen" times a day, and when she comes to me, I give her a tiny treat, then pet her and tell her she is a good girl. She needs time to get use to be with me, because she was in with 17 other horses, and it seems they were not too kind to her. She is a bit thin, "compared" to Whisper or the other ponies. In a week or so, I will see if Stephanie can send me what her vet said about Willow.

TGIF! Whiskey and I would like to thank you for July HOTM, what a surprise ♡ I mentioned a month or more ago that I was trying the "bio-spot on" to see how it would work. It works very well and it smells like Parana fly spray. It only has 3 containers in it to last one horse 6 weeks. The Freedom 45 last 3 months for one horse so I believe the cost is the same and it is the same ingredient. I like the Freedom 45 applicator better. The Bio-spot shows a few different area's to apply it so for me, I will use Freedom 45 but add a few area's that the bio spot shows!! Thought you all would like an update. I have a 3 day weekend! Need to get more done around the home place so I don't have any exciting plans. I wish you all a very nice 4th of July holiday ♡

For some reason HC or computer is so slow, it is taken me so long to vote this morning. In between weeding the garden, and feeding weeds to pigs, washing and cleaning tack, which I "hope" to trade for a large pony, small horse, that will be "just my size". Will tell everyone more later when I have more information. All I know right now is 48-50 inch mare, a Appaloosa, and about 12 yrs old broke but has a limpy leg, from scar tissue, of untreated leg sore.

It is nice out this morning, rained, well poured so hard coming home, (55 miles) from gradation party, that cars were pulling off the road. Our windows were open at home, and we wanted to go to Mass at 4, so we just slowed down to a fast crawl, and 10 miles from home, it was not raining at all, so closed windows, and went to another Mass at 4:30, glad we did...a beautiful guitar Mass, singing was so good. Started raining while I was doing chores, and getting everyone in for the night. Thunder and lightening was powerful, and again rained. My feed tubs had at least 3 inches in them......and lots of mud again.

I got out early and mowed and weedeated what I could. I had to run get a shower then the farrier came to trim Deacon. Once that was done I went to the grocery store got our food then I had to go pick up a few bales of hay. I finished around 12:15, that was all I could get done before the terrible heat sat in. I turned Deacy out to graze and sat in the shade and watched him while a nice breeze was blowing :) Have a wonderful weekend ♥

I am also tired of Mistit, keeping her baby to herself. I have read up on all the signs, some I see, like the "A" shaped looking down at her belly, it is pulling downwards, to look like a pear, her muscles near her hips are not soft yet, now does she like me to move he tail straight upward....it should be loose feeling. Her bag does not seem hard enough yet, although, some horses do not bag up with milk until the last minute or second. I am going by what cows do, and what I have read. Not experience. I am tired because I check her at around 11-12 each night, get up in the middle of the night to go out there, then early morning, and by it is time to "really" get up, I sure can sleep good. :)

In Wisconsin, if you loose your trailer title, you can go to the DMV, to get a replacement. Small, two horse trailers, do not need a title, something to do with the weight of the trailer. And grandma's really want to help those grandkids make it. I know first hand. :)

Sold my 2 goats yesterday, I think it was the right choice. It was getting harder to keep them away from chicken corn, and they would follow me around while doing chores....I think it was just to watch me, to know where I put all that corn. I found them in the chicken coop eating their feed, and even when I hid the guinea's feed pan in the dog house in their pen, they found it. But now they will be a little girl's birthday present. Hubby is still grinning ear to ear....:). If only the Pickles and Paisley were not so afraid of them. I was more afraid that the two goats would get hurt from one of the minis. No baby yet.....I think Mistit changed her mind.

Yes, we had light frost yesterday morning. We have had frost in nearly ever month, once on the 4th of July, we had to leave the park early to go cover the garden, and sit with blankets on us, as we watched the local parade. No, baby yet. A week ago, the vet said it would be at least a week to 10 days yet. The former owner, was so positive on her breeding dates. It was in July, that Mistit hurt her stifle joint. She does not seem uncomfortable, but sometimes I see her tail switching back and forth, or looking at her belly. Yesterday, she was rolling a few times. Pickles, now is a different story. He did not seem sore after the second or third day. But, he is back to being "catch me if you can" attitude. Today, I put him in the pen, and lead him back and forth to the pasture, of course he wants to run, but I zig zag back and forth, to make him slow down, but then here comes the goats, under the fence, running straight to us, and Pickles took off. Well, another bad habit I just taught him.

The mini flood in the living room was caused by the hubby, who was playing weatherman, again. Sure hope he does not take it up as a living. Same guy, who said was not going to freeze last night. Good thing I covered tomato plants, there was frost this morning, frost but no baby.
Ponies staying in at night so they can lay where it is dry and warm, sure is making a messy in the back of shed. This morning, "someone" decided to empty the barrel of empty feed bags, pull down another bale of hay, tip over water buckets, and I am sure they tried to let the rooster out of the rabbit hutch.
