How We Met

I'm not sure of her exact age. Vet says about 19 and farrier says mid-20's because of her teeth. Her teeth aren't the greatest so she could be younger and just have "old horse" teeth

We Heard about a free horse and I thought she'd be a perfect horse for me.
I don't know much about her past. Her right back leg got caught in barbed wire when she was younger so she has a scar there. She was kept in a pasture with a paint gelding. she wasn't taken out much, was in need of a major brushing and cleaning, didn't have much weight on her and I brought her home to fix her up.

*Thanks Brooke and Copper for vote #1,000!*

Another foggy rainy, damp, day temps are at least in the 30's, so not bad outside. Put down a huge bag (like the biggest black garage bag) of wood shavings in the outside pheasant pen, guineas decided to stay in the back of the barn with Lilly for the winter, but one gal needs a place for her geese and a few ducks, so I told her I had some room. It is a log cabin type of house with a large fence in area, with a fencing on top too.
Shipped 2 boxes of spare tack to a friends small tack shop in Texas, so hopefully, they get there in one piece. They are insured. Well, break time is over....thats Mike's lunch hour, and I have to get back outside to help water and dig out the rest of the carrots.....horses and rabbits will eat good for awhile.

Hi & a vote,
Do you go to many shows with Cinnamon?. The more experience going to show environment, the better it seemed for ours. Rocky was always excitable seeing "new" horses. My daughter would just try to get him out there in the practice ring and then we would just let him watch standing with us until he got bored.

Come visit me, Rocky (the blue-eyed wonder horse), Comet (has new home) & Cowboy.

Hi Cinnamon, here's a vote for ya. So it sounds like she don't like or trust a horse behind her. If you have the chance, work with her with another horse getting closer and closer behind her while you either sit quiet on her or walk her. First have the horse at a distance that she don't react to, and then slowly spiral in and she where her comfort zone is and work on it from there. Well woke up to 35 degrees with some sleet coming down. Did cover the ground, but not the driveway or roads. But 11 am all was clear and drying off. So the trip up the mountain to the chiro was okay. Then did some major food shopping for sure! Kids had a lunch of hay and fresh water. When I got home from shopping and putting everything away, Honey and I got in a mile walk. It was getting dusk and they drive like nuts on my road. So we didn't go far, not wanting to become road pizza! We'll see what tomorrow brings! Oh I got a wrist wrap at Wally World, it has a thumb slot in it and then wraps around, it's soft with no metal in it like a carpel tunnel wrist support. So we'll see how that helps support things! Marion and the blondes.

Today it was cloud, but warm at least ...if you call 23 warm, but had no wind. Mike put in 3 more round bales, it bothers me that we have started so early feeding hay. Usually at the end of Noverber, or 3rd week sometimes, but we started the 28th of October. Chickens, guinea hens, and Lilly got to go out, while we moved the one pen outside, and set up a pen for Lilly, at least now she will not be getting into the square hay bales. Never really got sunny out, but once in a great while, Mr. Sunshine would take a peak at us. We went and got more corn and also whole corn for the deer. The 18th starts deer hunting season, with rifles, it was bow season. I know it is still 10 degree below normal, but it does feel good outside. Put strings on the rest of the lid ornaments that Dominic had painted and hung them outside on small trees, still have more to paint, and decorate another little tree.

Hi again. So good to see Cinnamon as HOTD! How have you and the horses been? Have you been able to ride much over the summer?
We've been fine. The summer was too busy to ride alot, but I've been riding more this fall. Allie is coming along slowly. I finally got a truck, so now I need to get the trailer in good shape and start hauling a bit, go to the trails.
Anyway, hope all's well. Good to see you again.

We received 5-6 inches, some places the electric was out. Tristan left early morning for his class trip to South Dakota, he felt like he should not go because of the cost. 300 for the 5 days, but we told him we could cover it, and he will always remember it. His Dad, Joe, got his 8 pointer with the musket yesterday afternoon, today Mike and I take care of it for him, because he got called into work. Trying to decorate for Christmas, we will be having Christmas for our kids this coming Sunday. Thinking of making dinner easy...pizza and smack foods...and have to have homemade cookies.
Still feeling Donna Less pain and lost, I know it brings back Crimson's memory, who is never far from my thoughts.

I was impressive with Hobby Lobby, somewhat....but over whelming. So many choices. I had fun reading all the signs and posters. I was looking for chains to put some horse charms on for Christmas gifts. Found a cute little deer/buck ornament for Dominic, since he was the only one to get a buck this season. To do the work on Mikey's denture, would take 4 hours, so went to Farm and Fleet, and filled nearly all the animals Christmas list. Grizzly got canned cat food, Sadie wanted more treats and of course more dog food, Shadow got a soft bed, that I used coming home. Whisper, Willow and Mistit got more treats. Brought mineral blocks for cows and one for new Highlanders and Jack. Menards next stop and Mike got some things he wanted, and I brought fuzzy socks for any littler (teenagers) girls that I know....they will also get a necklace with horse charm. Picked up decks of kids card games, for any younger kids that stop here. See when Mikey was home, all his friends would come here, well, most of them have kids that came along, so now they stop to tell us Merry Christmas and I always have a little gift for kids and a box of homemade cookies and candies for them to take home. If I see them in a store, they always stop and chat and ask about the horses and animals....my reward....even if I never remember what their names are. They grow up so fast and change in looks.

Finally got on to HC, but now no time. So here is a vote and hug from my little herd.
Spent most of the morning getting bags and bags of nice dry sawdust/woodchips, not really sawdust. Then filling up the two pig houses with it. Everything and everywhere is mud and wet. Yesterday temps were in the 40's, and of course the snow melted, just like Frosty the snowman. So now all that is left is the puddle and mud. Then in the afternoon, went to get a few things from the grocery store, mostly milk....because some kitten and her friends plus Sadie and Shadow, expect milk at every meal.

Boy, what a difference one day makes. Yesterday morning did chores with sweatshirt, no hat, no gloves....then it rained, cold rain and temps dropped all day. Winds really picked up, after 6, buckets everywhere. Down to 24 this morning, and some snow, not even tracking snow. Very windy, but what a start to deer hunting season, usually we have enough snow at least a few inches, that do not melt, and winter was here to stay. Chickens and other birds stayed, inside. Only, because of the strong winds, they might start heading South otherwise. :) Heard some shooting this morning, and all the horses are staying close to the barn/shed. Since do not have that winterized, but it takes more than just Mike and me to do it. Want to use the bucket on the tractor, to push dirt up along the East side, and hang a tarp in the North doorway. There is a doorway on each side, which are at least 12 x 12, big enough for a tractor to drive threw and clean if needed. Soon we will put the Scottish Highlanders in with the other 2 steers, and Whisper and Willow, but everyone is still on pasture and a large round bale to eat.

Come visit me, Mistic, Willow & Whisper.

Our weather is so nice for November. But I know its coming...snow. Snow, I do not mind, but rain/snow mixture is hard to deal with. Everything is so wet then frozen. Mistit still wants to stand outside of the shed. Big enough for a whole herd inside, and I know Whisper always makes her move. I think for the winter she can go in with the calf, Jack, but Jack gets grain and she sure does not need it.
Get 150 bales of small bales of hay, so have to move the large chicken/guinea pen out, and clean where it was. Glad to get extra hay, it will help insulate the over head which slides sideweays.

Break from cutting firewood. Mike is going to help take a tractor back to the dealer to fix "something", on my brother in law's tractor. Some of charms came from ebay order. Smaller than what I thought, these are like a little "trojan horse", cute, but will need different size beads. So will go to our resale shop sort of like St. Vinny's or Goodwill, but prices are not too high, and check out what they have. Closes "bigger town" we have about 33 miles. Making a few to sell but most will go to the 4 H Christmas party for little gifts. Horses did not get their burrs out, yet. After hauling firewood and stacking, bringing in wash, and doing chores, we went to pick up Dominic from school, took him out to for a pizza at Subway, then gave him his cards. His golden birthday 14, and he is finally taller than me.

Calling for cold weather near the end of the week...highs in 30's, lows 20's, and of course snow. But the 19th is opening day of deer gun season, so it is expected. Some yrs we have had blizzard conditions, so this is really too warm for us, but so nice to get firewood in. Which is where we will be going in a bit.

Whiskey is with Susan in Pearland Tx. Her profile is Sing and Herd. I donated him to her "Cross Creek Stables" that she owns, trains and give lessons. It's a long story! I'm working this weekend so no riding plus it's to wet still to ride around our home. A lot of my friends are riding the lake today, I wish I was there instead of work LOL I had a nice day off yesterday. It was so pretty outside. It was around 72-73 and light breeze. I mowed one small area that needed it and then got Deacon out and had a great time grooming him, Have a good weekend♡

Well. I think we got our "killing frost" last night. Ice on all the water, and heavy frost. Weather should warm up today. Mike's sister Barb will be buried today in Kennan. This is where she was born. Just a cemetery service, and a small luncheon at the local bar/restaurant. Our young bull is coming today. Scottish Highlander same as the heifer. Her name is Harriet, so his will be Harry. Horses are really in a frisky mood lately....must be the cooler weather. Or the deer and other critters moving around with hunting season(s).

Did you get rain last night?? It started raining here just after supper 5-6 last evening, I got caught in it, while putting everyone in their night pens. Just had Jake the calf to bring in, when it started pouring out. Sadie was trying to hide under me while the rain poured down off the shed, and I was soaked. Sadie was not too wet. Sort started lighting, very bad when I first went out, and opening and closing steel gates was scary, but what are the chances, except lighting has struck so many times right on our lawn, and a few trees on the lawn. 2 1/2 inches on rain. Today of course everything is soaked outside. Nearly got stuck trying to pull the one truck that does not run, to its winter home. Then had to move the horse trailer, and hope we do not have to use it for awhile. But the sun is out, so all is good.

Raining again, cold rain, and very windy. Still have a few chores to finish up outside. Rain and wind is bring down some of the leaves off the maple trees. Time to clean more tack but in the house today. With all the rain, so many mold spots on the leather. What was that stuff called to keep moist out of the tack totes/boxes?? I did look when we were at Menard's, but forgot what the name was.

Busy trying to play catch up, neighbor stopped over yesterday morning, just as we were to leave to pick up Mikey's pills and take Dominic home. She always has so much to tall about....she the reason we do not need a newspaper.... :). She knows all the news. So her 2 hour visit puts me behind all day. He had to leave early to dress Mikey's toes/foot, before we went to Mass. How I have a double batch of tomotoes/celery/chili based which did not get into jars...yet. Will can it tomorrow, but want to get everything ready today. Did most of the work last night, but Sunday I don't do work that can wait. God must have made this day for me to rest, so I try to just pretend I am resting.
Heard from Eric and he said the ponies are enjoying all the extra attention and kids really love them. I knew he had a incubator and wanted guineas too, so I collected eggs for him, and he said his wife had set them already. She was so excited to get them....maybe more than the ponies, but I don't think so.

As I type, I hope you can hear Mother Nature being a naughty, naughty lady. BIG LOUD thunders, and what a fireworks display...never mind the down pour. My tulips, I planted where I took out the turtle pond "really" are getting the soaking they needed....might decide to bloom before winter. It started before 4 this morning and suppose to continue all week, I hope not this hard. Let everyone one just as it got light, because the rain had stopped. I guess chickens knew more than I did, because they just stayed in the coop, and the ones in the shed did not want to go outside either. Had a good visit with my sister at Mom's, she comes for the Hawkins parade each yr, by herself, and picks up my other sister, who hates to drive because she lost her one eye at 8 yrs old. Up until last yr she had a fake eye, but because of a infection it ate up some of the support of the fake eye, and now has to wait until everything clears up. That and her insurance does not want to pay anything, because the only place she can go is out of network. My sister will take 5 of the baby guinea hens to a friend who wanted some, and I took him I would make sure he got them. I gave him eggs to incubate, but he said he did not know what went wrong, but each time you try a hatch, you learn new things not to do or to do, that you did before. Hey, it stopped storming for a few minutes....yep, I see ponies coming out of the barn.
