Here's a vote from Buddy! Yet again, sorry we haven't been on in about a week, it seems the only time that we have to get on is when I have my days off! I've added some new pictures of Buddy, and one of his tail. I love the colours in it, and I've been putting MTG in it lately to try and get it to grow since he has such a sucky tail (to put it nicely.)

I haven't ridden him in his normal saddle pad yet, but I'm going to do that tomorrow and see how he does. The barn owner has her last day of her kids summer camp tomorrow so hopefully I can manage to ride outside while all the kids are riding inside or are on lunch, just in case Buddy pulls some crazy stunt! If he his still a bit off I am going to try and take the saddle off and just ride him bareback. If that doesn'e help him then I will have to call Dr. Herbers when I get back from my vacation to get his teeth checked and floated. I know I need to get them done sooner rather than later as when I asked my aunty if they had ever been done she said they had not as they had always been good when she had checked them. And of course if having his teeth doesnt help then I will move on to try a chiropractor, as one of the other boarders at the barn plans on having one come out and said that if need be she will let them know there may be another horse that needs to be done. Hopefully it doesnt come to that!

I leave for my vacation on Sunday morning, but I should still be able to make it on to vote every few days at least! I'm bringing my laptop as I never really leave home for an extended period of time without it. I may be blogging later during that time tho. As much as I am excited to go, I am not at all ready to pack to go. I'm sure I'll forget something that I want to bring. As long as I remember to bring my saddle!

I hope everyone is doing well and the weather has cooled down and you can all enjoy some not so hot horsey time! I also hope the bugs are not as bad for you as they are for me currently! And here's hoping my ride goes well tomorrow!

-Buddy & Jasmine

I lunged Spangle under tack yesterday. He was being a little grumpy, but was good. I then got on and walked and trotted him. He was really good:)

I rode Rose bareback last night at dusk. It was just a fun ride. We loped in each direction too:) It was fun.

☆ we had a nice peaceful weekend. The most work I did was go to the store and get grocery’s and bought some school clothes for our grandson to start pre-k! Horses were wormed and got their fly application. Cliff showed me how to pick up the round bale with the hay buggy. We will work on me running the tractor soon. Have a wonderful day! Whinnies & hugs.

Spangle's Story Continued:
Eventually, after working Spangle in the round pen for a couple months, I got on and rode him at a walk. The next time I rode we trotted. We have been working on walking and trotting under saddle for a while. Two months ago we tried loping. He bucked. I made him gallop once I was safely on the ground. Got back on and walked and trotted him. I also lunged him at a lope.

See you're gotten you're 100 (now 100+ votes). Sadly, no word on the Jack Black band of mustangs. They are/were a beautiful bunch of horses. Weird day, over 3" of rain and the high was 77. NOT what we expect in Tx in August. So now we're looking like a swamp. Cheryl & Cisco

I'M GOING CRAZY HERE....
Thanks guys for the suggestions, however, I'm in Canada and Smart Pac can not ship here. I will see what Cookie recommends. I don't think it is restless leg syndrome as Cindy suggested, he only does this at night when in his stall. He has a Jolly Ball, he has a huge stall, he has Sterly visible over the half door, he is outside ALL day long, I mean from 6:30 AM to 5 or 6 PM, he has the barn open during the day if he wants in out of the sun or rain. I have given this a lot of thought and I really think he started this when he was not being ridden last summer, now I have a NASTY habit to try to break. I'm just so angry that I did not nip it in the bud last summer, grrrr. Please Charlie stop this. We are going to cover all the exposed wood and concrete in that corner, at least if he still kicks the concussion should be less. Thanks for listening to all this, Love you all, we left a vote, Donna Lee

Spangle's Story Continued:
My mom did fall/dismount weirdly and sprained her thumb, but was fine. I have been working with Spangle in the round pen. For a while he would buck and then he would have to gallop a lot. Then we’d go back to what we were doing. Finally, he got the idea. Spangle also started beating up on Rose more than we liked. He chased her a lot. We decided we were going to sell him. He was for sale for a month and a half, but nobody serious called us. Therefore, we gave up trying to sell him. This whole time I was working him in the round pen.

FEELS LIKE FALL, ALREADY...
Good Morning, I don't want to keep going on and on about the kicking, it has improved, but not all gone yet. I have given this a lot of thought. One thing I read is that if they are not getting enough exercise they can start this vice. I think last summer when I was off with my arm surgery, may have been the start. I'm just so mad at myself for not paying more attention...I'm researching joint supplements, 'cause I have to assume he has hurt himself some, I'll talk to Dr. C, any suggestions? Spangle's Story Continued:
Spangle had never lived with mares before. For the first week he acted little bit like a stallion, but he soon came back being a gelding. ;) However he decided he likes to push Rose around, a lot! There will be more in later blogs. We started riding him. He was much more energetic than he was when we tried him. He also didn’t seem like he listened as well. One day my mom was going to ride him. We hadn’t worked him for a little while. He wouldn’t stand still while my mom was trying to mount. He finally stood. Almost as soon as she was on he bucked like a bronco! More tomorrow.

Here's a vote from Buddy! Sorry we didn't make it on the other day to blog like I planned. The internet was acting up and I was away for most of the day. I have read all the blogs on Buddy's page and thank you all for still voting for us while we are absent from HC. It means a lot.

I rode Buddy again the other day again, I put him in his new teal saddle pad and bonnet, and he was a stinker again. So I got talking to my aunty and she reminded me that he has always been a very sensitive guy and that my little saddle pads may be too thin for him without a thicker half pad. So, my plan for tomorrow (hopefully) is to try and ride him again in my thicker brown saddle pad that I know he likes and see how he does. If he isn't better and still tenses up like he's about to explode and throw me off again I plan on calling the vet and having his teeth checked and floated and if that doesn't help I may ask Margaret if she can massage him and see if that helps. If not, I'll be looking into a chiropractor to check him out. :( I hope it's just the saddle pad!

There's another show this weekend, it starts tomorrow. It's a dressage show so I'm not that excited for it but I'm excited for the vendors that are going to be here. I need to buy some little elastic bands for Buddy's tail. I've been putting MTG in his tail weekly and braiding it, and it seems to be working, he's growing a tail slowly! Wahoo!

I leave for vacation in 10 days to go up to the ranch with my dad, I'm pretty excited, but I'm sad to leave Buddy for 2 weeks. I know I will enjoy my time up at the ranch with family and friends, but it will be different to be up there and not see my Buddy. I have a feeling that I will want to ride Magic a lot (Magic is related to Buddy, only he is a full Arabian.) I know if I don't ride Magic I will end up riding someone I haven't ridden yet.

My aunty has about 20 some horses, and amazingly for how long I have been taking part in her kids & teens camps as a participant & as a camp wrangler I have yet to ride them all. Granted not all of them are rideable yet. This summer I have a goal to ride Buddy's first colt Vanner, he is absolutely a gorgeous gelding, I will post a picture of him on Buddy's page. I hope to blog again tomorrow, provided the internet works during the show.

We brought our slant load trailer to pick Spangle up. A little excitement on the way, we had a blowout on the trailer! Thankfully we didn’t have Spangle yet. We changed the tire and went and got Spangle. When we arrived, Spangle looked a little chubbier than he did before(He was chubby before too), but that was ok. They said he was a great loader. They were wrong. It took a little while to get him in the trailer, but we did it.

Find a really good trainer, preferably Parelli. You can join their site for $20 a month and get LOTS of tips and access to their videos. Even if you can only afford a lesson once a month or so, you will get things to work on till your next lesson. Riding (even at a walk) without stirrups helps with balance, as does riding (even at a walk) with your hands behind your back - of course, on a very good horse. Horse Channel has a video of exercises to do to prepare for riding in their video section, plus many other informative videos. Also, if you get RFD TV, there are many amazing programs: Linda Goodnight, Parelli, Clinton Anderson, and many more. Also, work on core strength. Keep dreamin'.

Leaving a vote for your beautiful dream horse. Do you get to ride at all? I saw Clarissa's blog, it's a shame, but it's all about money. Ranchers don't want mustangs on BLM land (more grass for their cattle) and sadly, the BLM in many cases just wants to get as many off their hands as possible. Glad Mystic was so lucky to fall into Steve's hands, he was another BLM mess up. When they had to leave for Ca, I offered to keep Mystic, Callie and Cinco for a year. They had a hormone level run on Mystic, since he was so studdy (the mares thought he was the bomb, although he always was perfectly behaved when haltered) and it came back very high. 3 surgeries later, he was finally gelded. Vet said he had had a previous surgery, but evidently the BLM vet couldn't find it and just left him a crypt. VERY dangerous.

How we found/bought Spangle:
We needed a horse to keep Rose company, but we also wanted a horse for my mom to ride. I found Spangle on Craigslist. We went to look at him. He was the perfect size for my mom and was calm. My mom also liked his personality. A week after going to look at him we brought our trailer to pick him up… More tomorrow!

I lunged the horses yesterday. Spangle did great! I expected him to be a little grumpy, but he wasn't! He was good. Rose was her normal frisky self:)

Again the wild horse issue...
Thanks for responding. You're right that the BLM does not (in most cases) directly send wild horses to slaughter, sorry if I was unclear about that before. I'm sure there are quite a few BLM workers who do truly care about the mustangs in their charge. But unfortunately, there are documented cases where the BLM was so desperate to unload horses that they were not careful who they were selling to and large numbers of mustangs were sent to slaughter by the people who bought them. There was a case recently where a herd of Wyoming mustangs was sold by the BLM directly to a Canadian slaughter house at auction.
Link:
http://trib.com/news/state-and-regional/blm-critic- ized-for-selling-wyoming-horses-for-slaughter/arti- cle_a902f32e-b01f-5f0c-bdd4-c80f7150a191.html

And the rule that they have about horses 10 or older is pretty much in place so that kill buyers can buy them. When people buy mustangs they normally want young horses. The BLM might be right in thinking that they will get no other buyers, but that doesn't excuse their lack of responsibility with the lives of these beautiful animals.

The government is currently trying to pass a bill that will allow the BLM to directly sell wild horses in government holding pens to slaughter houses.
Link:
http://protectmustangs.org/?p=6967

I emailed my state representative about this issue, and he replied that he thinks slaughter is an efficient way to deal with the wild horses in government pens. I was shocked by his callous answer. To the government America's wild horses are nothing but numbers on a chart. They mean much more to me.

I too take the wild horse issue close to heart, and unfortunately, I don't believe that the BLM or the government has the best interest of the horses at heart. There is a great need for the public to step in and save America's wild horses. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond. It's my dream to someday adopt my own mustang, though I wish they could all live free.

Clarissa, Provo, UT.
