How We Met

I had had my mare, Sable, for a year when I noticed she started acting kinda depressed and bummed. So I figured she was lonely and needed a pasture buddy. The last place she was at, she always had at least one equine friend with her. So the search began. I was driving home from work one day, when I went by this place that had a lone pony in the pasture. Someone was out filling the water tank and this little guy saw them and took off across the pasture to meet them. The person just walked away. That little pony just stood there, not believing this person left him. I turned the car right around and went and asked the owners if they would be willing to sell him to me. After two weeks of thinking it over, they finally did. They admitted to not having time for him and also of being afraid of him. A few days after getting Whiskey home and settled, I discovered that he thought he had the upper hoof with humans. He would pin his ears, try to bite and turn his butt to people as if to kick (he never did though). So began his training in respect of humans. Today, he is leading well, stands quietly for grooming, has improved a lot with having his feet handled for trimming, he does not turn his butt to people, and looks forward to kisses on his nose every morning. We are now in the process of training him to pull a cart and one day I hope to ride him in all the fields around here. You've come a long way, my Whiskey Man..
