We missed ya soooooooo much!
So nice hearing from you we were starting to think that you might have forgotten about us! I am so so sorry to hear about the knee we will be thinking of you all the time - when has your operation been scheduled for? Glad that the algebra is going better though sorry to hear about your dad as well - you must miss him terribly! You are probably going to have to look after and support your mom for a while - if we were there we would have helped!!! So glad to hear that the fillies are doing well, may they have grown up so quickly - when are you backing them? Also how is Shoo and your riding? My wrist has healed nicely and we are cantering - just 10 minutes at a time on straight lines but we are getting there! I need to get a new saddle though as the current GP, Bates Saddle's tree is twisted - it never stops hey? My lessons with the Lippi's are going really well and I'm learning so much - I think its doing wonders for my seat and I've russled up the confidence to trot starry sitting and stirrup less! My instructor is still helping with Starry's schooling just to keep him on the straight and narrow. Yoda is doing really well - we went to an eventing show yesterday and he absolutely loved walking the cross country course! My hubby was in London last week and save for working hard he's never been better (a little hard work never killed anybody hey?). We are also busy plannign our trip to Lexington for the World Equestrian Games in October - can't wait! We really really missed you sooooo much - Starmark sends lots of hugs and kisses and Yoda as well! Take really good care of yourself and your mom! Missed ya! All our love! Chris & Starry

Hey you, happy birthday!
Just a short message to say happy birthday from me and Starry hope you are doing something fabulous celebrating! Starmark was really naughty today gave a huge buck to get me off and he succeeded brilliantly - I had the ground head first managing to crack my hard hat and I'm typing you this with one hand, left of all things, think I either sprained it badly or perhaps cracked it. I have a doctors appointment this afternoon will let you know how it goes! You are a very special friend to us hope you are a having a special day too! All our love and hugs Christine and naughty Starmark

We definitely missed you MOOOOOOORE!!!!
What a wonderful surprise to find your message - I see in my diary that your birthday is coming up really soon I hope you are planning something really special!!! So sorry to hear about all the snow I can't begin to imgating how hecticly is has been affecting your lives - just getting around sounds like a really really tough job! Your pictures look beautiful though I love the one of the two of you jumping over the log! I also love languages glad you are enjoying the French and really really sorry to hear about the Algebra - teachers have such a huge influence on students and the way your perceive a subject - they can actually spoil it for you for life or instill a love and enthusiasm for a subject and algebra and maths are just so important especially if you want to become a vet one day. Perhaps you guys should speak to a head master or qualified teacher as a class - it sounds like everybody's having difficulties! You better take care of those knees and get well and strong and stick with the physiotherapy - it takes a while to build up strenght but just stay patient and committed we know you can do it - Starry has been doing it - slowly but surely getting there - if you get discouraged just remember us - we have also been out of jumping and proper work now for over 4 months hey? Well we are up to 10 minutes trotting a day now and Andrea is helping us - Starry was really naughty in the beginnig doing bucks like you can not believe but big ones. We have however figured out that if we work him properly and keep his mind busy he is really well behaved! The Lippizaner lessons are really great we are busy with sitting trots without stirrup - hard work but I'm learning so much and what awesome awesome schoolmaster horses - they are so trained to the seat - if they give you an incorrect reaction you can bet your bottom dollar that it is something you did wrong! You can steer them and get them to trot & canter just with your seat - amazing! I get to ride different ones every Sunday in order to get the most from the whole experience and learn as much as possible. Must admit there is something really special about the other horse I've been riding he is just so so sweet - his owners want to sell him and I'm so upset it! He's real expensive though with one or two vet issues with his hocks so apart from being expensive he's not totally sound... wish I could buy him he's just such a sweet sweet horse I was so taken with him! Any way that's it from us hope the snow gets a bit better still rainng cats and dogs here in South Africa! We missed you and it was so nice hearing from you again! All our love, hugs and lotsa kisses Chris, Starry & Yoda

Helooo there!
I'm sure school is keeping your really busy - we just thought of you guys this morning and was wondering how the weekend was? We had a great week-end - Starry is on the mend and we are up to 30 minutes walking a day now and I had a Lippizaner lesson on one of the schoolmasters (all white and beautiful). Hope your knees are okay - we are worried! Love Chris & Starry

Hello hello hello friends!
We've missed you a lot! I hope you guys are well, that you are finding time to ride and that your weather allows you to ride and that your knees are okay Caitlyn -we have been worried about you!? Well my instructor Andrea (we call her Andy for short) has organised me a horse for lessons 3 times a week so I can make up lessons lost and get up to speed before Sir Starry gets back into work! I am riding the neighbour's 16.3 hands huge bright by warmblood gelding, 9 yrs old, called VanGuard, what an awesome ride (second to Starry though). I am loving having lessons again and I have the most most awesome instructor she really gives you a lot of confidence and teaches you a lot! She is so patient - I can't believe that I had enough confidence to get on such a big horse and canter him first time round! In the mean time I still walk Starry every morning before work - we are up to 25 minutes now - I think we might book him for more scans next week to see if we can gradually start trotting Starry - I miss him so much but at least the lessons are getting me back into riding him and I'm feeling less frustrated and have more patience with Starmark! I have come to love him so much - it really is heavenly being able to go to the stables every day - and that is what you have right at your doorstep! Otherwise its still very rainy and greay - I've found that in the mornings we can get away with riding but it starts to drizzle late afternoons - so best to go before work and make sure that we are exercising and walking Starry - can't miss a day with that ligament of his! Well that's it from me - hope school is treating you well? Love Us

Hello there!
We have just been having the most dreadful weather - it hasn't stopped raining this whole week, no time for any arena's to dry and hence I haven't walked sir Starry the past two days! Otherwise we are quite busy at the office! I'm sure you are loving not having braces anymore - your dad might have to invest in a shot gun to keep the boys away! Also please let me know about your knees - Starry and I are a bit worried about you! All our love from a wet and muddy SA! Chris & Starry

Hello there!
Hope you guys had a fantastic week-end, that you got some time to ride Shoo and that that your weather was not too bad! We are having lots and lots of rain and I'm finding that if I'm not riding early in the mornig before work I won't be able to ride as we are having lots of scattered thunderstorms and showers late afernoon. We had a really nice week-end - had our beginning of the year stable function on Saturday evening - an Italian dinner with delicious food! Starry has been really really good despite the rain we've managed to get our walking in - we are up to 20 minutes a day now. He gets a little bit grumpy at the end (think its a bit boring for him) but we will persevere - its for his own good! Yoda went in for his annual booster injection on Friday and otherwise we are all really well! Chat soon! All our love Chris & Starry

Hello there cutie pie!
Thank you so much for your lovely lovely message - I'll return the favour Monday promise have to run to a dentist appointment ugh! But I hope your docter's appointment went well - I'm worried about you - you have to take care of yourself my friend!!!! Starry gets turn-out time but in a small 6x6 metre paddock where he can't do too much damage to himself! We have our beginnig of the year function at my stables - Italian dinner - should be really nice! Take care! All our Love and lotsa hugs and kisses! Chris & Starry

Well helloo there and welcome back!
We are really glad your internet connection is up and running again now we can chat again yeah! Glad Shoo is so awesome he is just such a beautiful colour and horse, was looking at his handsome photos. We are very very sorry to hear about Ophie! Hope she is okay though. We are glad to hear about your braces but really worried about your knees - are they sore, what is the matter my friend? Well Yoda is doing really well, he was supposed to have been on diet to lose weight for his joints but the little rascal had a great Christmas and new year and picked up some! Otherwise he is really fat and healthy and the budgies are doing just as well. Starmark is doing well under circumstances we are up to 15 minutes walking now, under saddle and on hard ground - even though we are not having any lessons or jumping just sitting on my boy makes it better already. I ride him every mornig before work - I get up at 05:00 and ride him between 06:00 and 07:00 and then take a quick shower and off to work! Must admit though that one does miss lessons a lot and it feels like my personal riding has gone a bit backwards, sometimes you just get a bit despondent - we have been out of work now for 3 and a half months! At least my lessons with the Lippizaners are starting on 31 January (but that's only in two weeks time) - trying very hard to stay motivated, I am however really committed to rehabilitate my body from his injury! It just feels like we will never be jumping again! Its up and down - some days I feel more positive than others but I'm keeping at it - if there's one thing that these four legged animals teach you its lots of perseverance and humbleness - just when you think you are on top.... hey! Hope school is going really really well for you! Oh I forgot to tell you - my hubby bought me tickets for the jumping finals, World Equestrian Games, 8 October 2010 - Lexington Kentucky - I can't wait - I'm so excited! How far are you guys from Lexingtong - maybe we should come visit??? All my love all the way from SA! Chris, Starry, Yoda & the Budgies

Hope you guys are having a fantastic time - and that conditions improve very soon for riding! I am also on Christmas break from today until 6 January 2010 - so if we don't get to speak before then we wish you a very merry Chrismas and a propersous new year! Hope all your dreams and wishes come true in the new year! And thank you for all your support and friendship through the year that was - we really appreciate it! You guys have become such a special part in our lives! We are spending Christmas eve with my husband's parents and Christmas day with my parents! We went to see a Lippizaner Christmas show this week-end where they did kur's on Christmas carols, we all sang along it was so beautiful! We bought Yoda some Christmas parents too and they are lying wrapped under the tree. I have some serious Christmas shopping and wrapping to do still though and the next day will definitely come in handy for that! Hope mommy to be has an uneventful birth with healthy babies, please post some pictures! Hello there!
We missed you guys and hope you are well! How are the kittens doing - you will have to post some pictures for us! What is your kitty's name? Well we had an absolutely awesome time - you Americans just know how to do Chrismas best if you can't get the Christmas spirit in America you never will! We had snow in Washingtong which was absolutely beautiful which I'm sure is not so great for you guys from a riding perspective! We also drove out to Hershey in Pennsylvania where they make the chocolate bars yum (peanut butter cups are my favourite!) I spens some time in the museum of Natural HIstory and the National Art Gallery and then we visited NYC - I did some horsey shopping got a lovely Ariat jacket and socks and we saw Shrek the musical! All in all we really had a fantastice time - maybe when we visist Washington again I must come visit you guys! How far are you from Washington and can I take a train to come visit? Well Sir Starry was abosolutely delighted to see me - he loved the treats I bought him in Manhattan and I got big sloppy kissses all over my face - needless to say since the kissing started there's no wearing lip stick for me around the barn anymore or a quick visit in lunch time before I go back to the office! The vet is due for his check up - he will come do a flexi test to see if we can start working in the new year again but our man has picked up weight and he's coat is looking really shiny! Hope you guys are having an awesome break! Lotsa love, hugs and kisses Chris & Starry

Hello there!
We are counting the sleeps till Sir Starry goes out in his paddock and until we are off to DC! I think Starry is becoming increasingly impatient - he was so fresh this morning that I had to take off his head collar and put a proper bridle on just to control the man! i received some great news - I got an opening for lunge lessons with the Lippizaners to do an intensive course next year over 18 weeks - how fantastic is that! I think from a riding perspective having been out for so long it will really help getting back into the swing of things. Starry's vet phoned me yesterday saying that her mare has exactly the same injury as Sir Starry and it happend literally a day or two after Starry's - She sympathised with me! Well have literally "decked the halls" here at the bank - it looks all festive - I didn't get to the tree last evening will still have to put that up this evening - at least my wreaths are up! Take Care! Love Chris & Starry

Hello to Shoo and the ladies!
We are counting the sleeps now - I think Starry can't wait to be outside - every morning its getting more difficult to get him back into his stable! Thank you for all the well wishes! He has 2 weeks of paddock rest while we are away on holiday and then when we come back 2 days later the vet will come out to check whether we can start walking him slowly but surely! The dressage saddle was very comfortable I loved it - I think I should ask my coach to look out for a second hand dressage saddle for us for next year! Sorry to hear about your weather - I'm busy packing at the moment and I don't want to pack too much as I want to do some shopping (managed to track down the only tack shop in the whole of NY - I see Ariat is a local American brand and the Ariat stuff is sooooo expensive here in South Africa as its "imported" I hope to buy a pair of jods of two) but I also don't want to be cold - its almost surreal to think that you guys are freezing and we are swimming! Yoda is also swimming its good exercise for his legs and kness without any impact on his joints! Other than that I'm just rushing to do all last minute things before we go away and I still want to put up our Christmas tree tonigh - tradition in our house is to put up Christmas decorations and tree by 1 December! I am also planning to bake some cookies - lets see if I get to that! Just 3 more weeks of school - we'll be thinking of you guys! Lotsa lotsa love, hugs and kisses Chris & Starry & Yoda

Just four more days to go....
and counting then Sir Starry can go out in a 6x6 metre paddock - I know he is going to looooove it! Glad to hear that you had a good week-end hopefully the wreath selling goes better closer to Christmas - we would definitely have bought a few if we were there! Well we had a wonderful week-end - my mom thoroughly enjoyed her birthday lunch! The Lippizaner lessonw as just AWESOME not only are those horses breathtaking (it felt like a dream riding them) but I also learnt sooo much! I had a lunge lesson and the Lippie I rode had wonderful rythmic paces - we only walked and trotted but focussed a lot on my seat and leg position and lenghtening my leg. I rode on a dressage saddle for the first time and I think I reallyl need to get myself one! It really was a wonderful experience I am so priviledged! Hope you have a wonderful Monday! Sounds like you guys had a ball of time, I wish we celebrated thanksgiving here in South Africa - well at least we have a friend in the States that we can live vicariously through! Good luck with the wreath selling hope you sell lots and lots - we would have bought a few - perhaps one for Sir Starry's barn & stable. Well I have a jam packed week-end plan tomorrow a friend from our previous stables is visiting me - Louise - and she wants to see how Starmark is doing - I think she will be really impressed with his condition, she will really have a before and after view which will be good and she has ridden Starry before so I know she has a soft spot for him. We are also having a 60th birthday lunch for my mom at a lovely restaurant and I orderded some personalised cupcakes which I will take there as a surprise before she arrives. Then I have my lesson with the Lippizaners on Sunday morning and a braai/ barbeque (we call a barbeque a braai in South Africa) with my friend Louise! Hope you have a wonderful week-end - happy selling! All our love Chris & Starry

Well Shoo might have rolled in the mud but I was so impressed when I got to the stables this morning my coach Andrea (we call her Andy) had Sir Starry bathed he loved it apparently and he is looking like a million bucks (and I'm sure feeling it too)! I go visit him every mornig before word between 05h45 - 06h45, quickly take a shower at the stables (we have an awesome clubhouse) and then I'm off to the office at around 07h00. Can't wait for our USA trip just under 2 weeks to go now - I love your bacon, maple syrup and pancakes in the mornings and USA pizza's are the best in the world let me tell you that! Wish we could meet you! and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! We are thankful for friends like you even though you are thousands of miles away! Starry also told me to say hello and happy thanksgiving! Well I am very glad to report that my instructor and I had a look today and not only could we not see the splint but we couldn't even feel it - seems like the laser therapy has been very effective I'm sooooo glad! Just 4 more weeks of rest and then we're there! I have a lunge lesson scheduled with Lippizaners how awesome is that going to be - I had to put my name on a waiting list South Africa is the only place other than in Viena where we are classicaly training Lippizaners - did you know that they are black when born? I am so out of practise with riding but just sitting on one is going to be abasolutely breathtaking! Hiya!
Sounds like you really have an exciting time lined up! Its really really cold and misrable in South Africa at the moment - its not looking like summer at all - more like a European winter! At least all the horses are standing in now and keeping Sir Starry company. I am really really excited - from tomorrow I can start walking him in hand 10 minutes a day! I know it sounds stupid but to just be able to take my boy out will be such a treat for me! This has really made me realise and appreciate my boy even more! Obviously the team dressage competion I was going to attend has been cancelled (just as a spectator) all the arena's are flooded! Say hello to dearest Shoo, Samara and Cherokee! All our hugs and kisses Chris and Starry (PS My instructor said that SM is the sweetest apparently he is giving everybody kisses now - she says he's learned a lot while stabled and that he's doing really well with the stable rest - picking up weight nicely) Take Care!

So nice to hear from you two - hope you managed to do all your chores! We have a really cold and rainy day ahead of us - I managed to visit Starry before work and gave the man some carrots! Will definitely let you know how the laser treatment went. I've heard that they say Thoroughbreds are cleverer than Warmbloods - have you heard that? Well the man is absolutely basking in all the love, attention and carrots! He's doing really well under circumstances but I'm literally burning to ride - I miss it so! What are your plans for Christmas? We are going to Washington and NY again from 5 - 15 December I can't wait have managed to track down a tack shop in NY the only one in the whole of Manhattan! Glad you got to rest a bit on Sunday its always necessary! Well one more week of box rest to go then at least I can start walking Starry in hand - 10 minutes at a time - morning and afternoon! Well he's learned to give kisses - he pushes his whole velvety nose in you face asking for carrots its too sweet! He's been such a champion - he's really calm in his stable lets hope it goes the same this week! Helooo!!!
Well your new pictures are simply gorgeous!!! Sounds like you had a fantastic week-end - wish we could have joined your for the hunt! How is school and French lessons going? Yoda is doing really really well the injections are really making him feel great and he's down to one injection a month now to help with the arthritis in his front legs.Yeah! However Starry is not doing that well at the moment turns out all the back problems were really just compensating for an old splint that has become active again. We had x-rays and scans done by the vet (he had to sleep over for the night and his mom was so worried about him) - luckily no damage to any ligaments but the splint is big and in a really awkward place so much so that it is interfering with his suspensory ligament. He got cortisone injections and has been booked off for 6 weeks - 2 weeks box rest, 2 weeks of walking in hand and 2 weeks paddock rest - thereafter the vet will do flexor tests again to establish whether the splint has gone down. If not we might have to consider surgery, but we will cross that bridge if we ever come to it, which I'm positive won't be necessary - we are going to try laser therapy to shring the splint - please think of us! Well its also my boy's birthday today - 11 years old! I'm goint to look for a ball or something for his stable to keep him occupied he's feeling really sorry for himself while all his friends are outside! Say hello to Shoo from us! Good luck with all the tests we are sure all went really well - you are such a clever hard working lady! Well the physio came to see Starry yesterday and he is much better - she didn't need to use the needle just gave him a nice massage which he thorougly enjoyed! Its so nice for me to be able to visit when he's sore or ill and to just be there for him where previously I coudn't! Well from today onwards he will be on a rehab programme doing exercises in hand to strenghten his stifle. The physio seems to think that his primary problem is a locking stifle and secondary to that to compensate for the stifle he got the sacro illiac problems and his muscles went into spasm around his lower back. We will let you know how the exercises are going! Any plans for halloween? Take Care! Chris & Starry

Your new pictures are beautiful!
Sounds like you are enjoying the hunting a lot! Must admit you are very brave I'm a little bit scared to do a hunt - I think Starry might go a bit wild! A different horse to school - that sounds very exciting - you will always love Shoo best but to ride different horses makes you a better rider in many ways I think! It is in fact a huge compliment to your riding ability - we are proud of you. Well Starry has behaved - the physio is seeing him again this afternoon and she will probably show me some exercises to start doing with him in hand to strenghten his lower back muscles. I made a friend via the previous place I rode that stays close to me - she has her own stables and arena on her property and she has 3 of her own horses. She asked me along on an outride and I rode one of her horses - you don't realise how much you missed riding until you get on another horse again! Hope you guys had a great weekend? All our love Chris & Starry

Helo there!
Sounds like you had a lovely ride - wish we could join mademoiselle! How's the French going at school? Jip we also had really bad cases of the flu - I had it not less than 3 times its like your system never gets strong enough to get over it! Luckily its summer now and a lovely time to ride! Our new home is going to be 10 minutes away from Starry and I get to see him every day now - I visited him yesterday, just walked him in hand and spent some quality time with my man! He has a another physio cession booked for coming Monday and then we will also start with a rehabilitation exercise programme to strenthen his lower back and muscles around his stifle. The vet and physio thinks he has always had the underlying sacro illiac problem but now with the regular work in the correct frama it might have brought it on. Any shows coming up for you and Shoo? Enjoy the week-end! Love Us

We MISSED you!
So nice to hear from and sorry to hear that the volleyball is finished but glad that you will be writing more often! The house plans are going we will probably start building next year only though! I'm so jealous your trial riding sounds awesome! Well I knew something was up with Mr Starry as we was not acting himself at all the man's sacro illiac joint was totally mis-alligned and his muscles have been over compensating and went into complete spasm - the chiro treated him, he's been booked off for two whole weeks with bute injections every day and he has to get physio treatment - after that only light lunging for a few weeks and thereafter we can start to work slowly! I don't think we will be competing or doing any serious lessons for the rest of the year! I'm just glad we managed to pick up what the issue was the poor man must have been in in real pain and irrespective of it he still tried his best for me - but he went totally lame last week after he bucked me off! We will slowly and surely recover and I have all the faith in the world in our new instructor! He was already looking better yesterday after his first injection! Can't wait to see your updated pages! Yoda is also feeling much better he is due for his third injection tomorrow! Lots of love Chris & Starry

Hello there!
Congratulations we are so proud of you for wining at the show - I'm sure Elaine was really really proud as well! Fox hunting that sounds really exciting - we've never been on a hunt before! Well I'm so glad to be able to tell you that little didn't need an operaton as his back hind legs ended up not being the problem however he as osteo arthritis in his front shoulders and has to go for a course of six weekly injections and thereafter two weekly, thereafter monthly (I think its similare to legend injections that you would give a horse). He has to go for another on Wednesday - other than that the little mand is doing really well. Our lessons went well except for the fact that Starry has been acting really cheeky and naughty (not being fresh), in fact he bucked me out of a rising trot this morning (spooked a few times which I sat but must admit I didn't see that buck coming at all!) - my instructor got on him and rode him beautifully - disciplined him but without a whip or even small spurs she has legs that goes on for miles - and she sorted him out lets hold thumbs that its just a very short phase he's going through and will come round quickly! Send our love to Shoo, Samara, Cherokee and Bear! Chris & Starry

Hello there!
Hope you are guys are well and surviving with all the business! Went riding this morning before work - what a fantastic way to start your day. We have our first lesson with your new instructor Andrea Harrison tomorrow morning. Starmark was really really fresh yesterday (probably because he stood in over the week-end - we did a lot of flatwork and went for an outride afterwards). It really is primarily a dressage yard and all the riders are so composed (but friendly)- I think SM with all his bucking really scared them - most of them stopped riding when SM started bucking hee hee, it was actually really funny! They are clearly not used to thoroughbreds - Starry is one of only three thoroughbreds the rest are all more even tempered warmbloods - funney hey? We will let you know how the lesson went. Left you vote and all our hugs and kisses! Starry & Chris

Good luck with next week-end's hunt!
Phew, sounds like you have been extremely busy- between school work, riding and volleyball - we wish you the best of luck and know you are a hard worker and that everything will go really well for you. Well Yoda is booked for his operation on Thursday morning and Sir Starry is settling in really nicely - I think he is really enjoying it and my husband mentioned that he is looking better than he ever did before! I get to ride before work now which is fantastic and I get to see him every day, even if its just to give him some carrots and love, I am really enjoying having him closer! We will start with lessons this week - my new coach won the SA Dressage Derby - best rider and horse - the three top riders switch horses and she ended up getting marks on the other riders' horses than they did themselves - how fantastic is that! Other than that I'm settled in back at the office and working really hard! We miss our regular chats as well! Take care my friend! Chris & Starry

Goodness but have we missed you guys!!!
We are soooo glad it was just Shoo's bridle and that he was okay! Fox hunting my but that sounds exciting - how did the hunter/ jumper class go? Well we had a good holiday up until the point that our passports and all our personal belongings got stolen from our car at a service station (all except for my husband's wallet - thank goodness otherwise I don't know what we would have done without it - we would probably still be sitting in Italy)! Needless to say it has been so hectic putting the pieces of our lives together (Identity documents, drivers licenses, passports, credit cards, mobile phones etc.) that we couldn't take Yoda for his operation on Friday but will be within the next 2 weeks. Starry is officially in his new home though - its lovely to have him 10 minutes drive from home! He seems to be settling in still a bit startled and spooky (and I think he might be missing his groom and friends a bit but he looks fine) and I'm sure we will soon be making new friends. My new instructor has been away the whole week-end for South African dressage championships and I will probably only find out by the end of this week when my lessons will be. Hope you are doing well at school - awfully busy I presume? All our love Chris & Starry
