It was great to hear from you again. Yes, I've had a wonderful summer. It sounds as though yours has been great too. Wow, 2nd place standings. You must be so proud.

It's a little cooler here today. Pippin is already starting his winter coat. I'm of two minds to clip him again. I haven't decided yet. I think if and when it gets back into the 100s I may go ahead and do just that. His replacement flymask has not yet come. I hope it doesn't take too long. The flies are just terrible.

This evening it was windy. I always move Pippin from his big paddock into a smaller pen at night. There he has a shelter and less chance of being eaten by something. I always just open both gates and he comes running and whinnying and canters straight to his food in the smaller pen. Well, because of the wind the gate to the small pen was closed by the time he got to it. I had Melian on a lead tied to the fence right there and Pippin had every opportunity to trample her. He got really close twice but was good enough to avoid her. I was a little worried but then I was very happy because since he doesn't like strange dogs at all this was a confirmation of his acceptance of her. If that had been some unknown dog he would have tried to kill it.

I was wondering if you could do me a favour and vote for Melian, my dog, in the cutest photo contest? Here is the link:

I'm sorry that I haven't stopped by in awhile. I had to be offline for a few weeks and I sure have missed writing to everyone. How are you doing? You sure sound like you had a bad accident. I'm glad you weren't hurt any worse. That paint mare sounds really dangerous.
I rode Prince a couple of weeks ago without Eddie there to distract him. He was the best he's ever been and I so enjoyed our ride. He paid close attention to everything that I asked because he wasn't spending the whole time trying to get to Eddie or to look at him. He took the correct lead each time we cantered and I even got him to do shoulder in at the trot. Something we've been working on for awhile. And then we did a few low jumps and he behaved and didn't try to buck me off or bolt on the landing. I think that using Eddie's English saddle helps a lot too. He must really prefer it, I know that I do.
Eddie also had an adventure. He was the star attraction in the annual rodeo parade and sure knew how to strut his stuff. He looked so handsome in his regalia. I have a photo of him from last year's parade. He even made the front page of the local newspaper!
And I finally trimmed Pippin. We suddenly had 100 degree weather and he couldn't be in his buffalo disguise any longer. He looks so beautiful now. I like the cute cuddly look of winter but the summer look is so elegant. He's also mellowed out now that he's turned 4 and he is so good with the cart. I can get him to do just about anything and we will be working on fancier stuff later this summer if I have time, fingers crossed.
Congratulations on Mesa making the feature in that magazine. How exciting. I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day and weekend and are feeling much better. Leaving you with a vote.

It was good to hear from you again. Thanks for your sympathy about Tiny. It's been 3 weeks now since she died and I still miss her so much.
I'm glad your two girls are doing really well. They sound like so much fun and now the weather should be getting better for you to ride.
I rode Prince on Thursday. That was the last day of April and I haven't seen him since he won hotm. I'll have to tell him this week. We had a great ride. It was cool and I was trotting him in circles in the field when suddenly right from the center where we were trotting this killdeer pops up and she's all upset and starts pretending to be lame. I knew immediately from her behaviour that she had a nest there so I walked Prince away and watched until she returned to her eggs. I pointed her out to my sister, who was riding Eddie, so that we could give her a wide berth and let her brood in peace. I think they're so cute and the chicks will be the cutest little balls of fluff. I hope we get to see them.
Well, I hope you've been able to have some fun riding this weekend. There's really nothing better. Leaving you with another vote.

If you get a chance, please vote for Pippin in the glamour shot contest. Page 22. Thanks so much.

It was great to hear from you. Do I see some new photos below? Mesa is so pretty.
I'm glad she's doing so well with the barrel racing. It sounds like so much fun. Have you won any money yet? Now, that would be great. And I sure hope that it didn't rain yesterday again.
As for Aamira, I think it would be great to take a horse trail riding and just pass all those stuck 4 wheelers. I think trail riding and just exploring on horse back is so much fun. I spent hours doing that when I was younger and had more time.
Would you be so kind as to vote for Prince for horse of the month? We need as many votes as we can get this month in order for him to win. He's been on the horse channel for almost a year and a half and he's a very hard worker. He's a Belgian/Welsh pony cross and he's very handsome. I guess he got the best of both breeds. I'm training him and he's extremely smart but he does have a mind of his own. He learns fast but on his own terms. He knows how to rein and we're working on jumping and dressage. Just because he knows it though doesn't mean he'll do it. But that's one of the things I love about him. He sure has character.

Thank you in advance for stopping by and giving him your vote. I really appreciate it. And here's a vote for you too. ttyl

Hey, it sounds as though things have been going great for you. Except for that one time with the rain. I'm so happy that Aamira is catching on too. It had been three weeks since I had ridden but I finally got to ride last Tuesday morning and it felt wonderful to be back in the saddle again. Prince was all spunky and then he was bad and bolted. After that I worked him hard trotting in circles and getting him to canter on the correct lead. He did pretty well and I was able to tire him out enough so that he was more well-behaved. I got a couple of jumps out of him before they fell over. It was windy but such a beautiful sunny day. I hope to take Pippin out with the cart again soon. We're both needing to get out. And he's finally started to shed. I saw him lose two hairs yesterday. So, if the weather stays warm I'll clip him soon. I can't wait to see him all trim and pretty. The cute look can only go for so long. Well, enjoy your weekend and here's a vote for you.

Thanks for asking about Tiny. She is improving every day but is a little slower now and not as steady. Hopefully that will get better too but it might not. At least I still have her. She fell into our pond on Sunday night and I got her out immediately but a few minutes later her heart stopped and she wasn't breathing. I was so scared but I managed to keep the presence of mind to do CPR and she came back after a few seconds. I sure don't want to go through that again and I bet she doesn't either. Well, you're right about Pippin. I'm lucky that he has the tiniest hooves ever. It's actually kind of cute but I can't let him get away with it. I'm so glad that your two girls are coming along so well. I know you'll have fun in the competition even if you don't place. That's a good idea to switch between trails and the arena. It gives you a break too from the monotony. And that's great that your weather is cooperating. Pippin is doing really well. I'm hoping that the weather will clear up here so I can clip him and see his beautiful and elegant summer self. In winter he's just cuddly and cute. But we have more snow today so I have to wait. Prince is already shedding but he sheds early. Well, here's a vote for you. Good luck!

Hey, that's great that Mesa likes the barrels and Aamira likes the poles. That means you get to do both. Good luck with showing Mesa. I bet it will be fun for you both. I'm so sorry that I haven't stopped by in awhile. I've been so preoccupied with caring for Tiny. Thanks so much for asking about her. Amazingly Tiny is doing so much better. She had a setback a few nights ago with seizures and some strokes. This lasted a few hours and was quite scary but she is doing so much better now. These last few days are the first that she has seemed her normal bright eyed self. She is still a little wobbly on her legs and gets confused but I'm hopeful that this will pass as she regains her strength. She even tried to chase a cat today but only managed to get about 5 feet. It's a start though. Pippin is doing really well. Except the other night when I fed him his alfalfa pellets the nasty little guy kicked me. I told him no and so he kicked me again. Well, that was it and I took his pellets. Later I remembered him and gave them to him again. He was as sweet as ever. Either that or he's planning his revenge. He's really too smart for his own good. I don't really blame him though. I haven't paid enough attention to him because of Tiny being so sick. He sees me 4 times a day for feeding but I've only taken him out once a week. At least he can exercise himself in his paddock. I did take him out on Sunday though with the cart. It was really windy and we had so much fun. He was energetic but really well-behaved as well. We both needed it. How's everything with you? I hope you have a great weekend. Leaving you with a vote.

Sorry I have to be quick today, but I am buisy! Plus I just had a mare boarded at my barn foal last night!!!! She had a cute little palomino boy. Exciting!!! The same breeder also had a baby born on Valentines day, but that one he is keeping at his place, I went over to see it on both saturday and sunday! Well, I rode the horses this weekend (western), trying out that saddle, everything went very well, nothing super big happened. Zorro remembered how to do his WP jog on the loose rein after doing english for a long time. That is about it, I will maybe post some pics of the baby on Zorro's page, if the breeder is ok with that later this week. Please keep voting for Zorro! --Amber

Hope you get better soon! Have fun with those nice temps!!! Hi everyone, isn’t it great? It is Friday!!! I just took a spread sheet and database class exam, it was not that hard, I got 1 wrong, oh well. I am looking at buying a new saddle it is a medium oil show saddle. It is nothing compared to the custom made saddle I show in right now, but it is pretty nice and I wanted something else to practice in. I have a smaller saddle, but I would rather practice in something more comparable in size to what I show in. Also, my younger brother needs a show saddle. I picked it up yesterday to try on my horses, but I think I will try it on today because it was snowing yesterday and I do not want to damage the leather! Thanks for everyone’s comments, I think I am getting back to you, if I do not just tell me, I might have missed it, like all humans I am not perfect! REMINDER-we are getting closer to show season, it is time or almost time to do a boot clip on our horse’s legs, so they are nice and tidy come show time! QUICK TIP-this one goes with me getting a saddle, remember that when checking to see if a saddle fits, try it directly on the horse’s back without a saddle pad, this will give you the best idea, then you can run your hand underneath and make sure it has even contact. INTERESTING FACT-four horse chariot races where introduced to the Olympic games in 648 B.C. A few people asked what the web address for the newsletter I was talking about, so here it is ( Well, that is all for now--Amber and Zorro p.s. Thanks for all the votes from everyone, keep them coming!

I'm glad that Mesa did so well with the barrels and that your training is working so well. It sounds like you're having lots of fun with them. I'm sorry that I haven't written in so long. My dog Tiny has been so sick. She has chronic kidney failure and she's in the middle of her worst episode ever. For the first time in two weeks she's been able to keep a little bit of food down. She's a miniature rat terrier and her normal weight is 8-9lbs. She only weighs a little over 6lbs and looks like a skeleton. I've been so worried about her. She's 15 and my baby. I don't know what I'll do without her. She was so sick that the vet even recommended ending it. I think he's still doubtful but I'm ever hopeful. Today she only threw up a couple of times and even asked for a piece of chicken. I'm so happy to see her even the tiniest bit better. I've been caring for her 24/7 so that hasn't left me much time for blogging. Now that she's doing a little better I'm trying to catch up. Poor Pippin has been a little neglected. I haven't been able to spend time with him and have only walked him a couple of times in as many weeks. At least he has a big field in which he exercises himself. We have about a foot of snow right now and he looked so funny with it all in his fur and mane. There was even a pile on his head. Well, good luck with your training. Here's a vote for you.

Hi, I got to go home yesterday!!! It was great to see the horses again; they were kind of wet from the rain and stuff we have been getting. Unfortunately no riding, we have this weird mix of snow, slush and water on the ground, too slippery to ride on, plus I had too much studying and stuff to do. We are having weird weather right now, and since we got all this rain/slush/snow stuff, it is just going to freeze up on us the end of this week. Oh well. I think I am going to add a “Did you know?” fact or a quick tip, like I did in my last blog. Quick fact: The Romans where the first to come up with the idea of a horse shoe, but instead of nailing on the shoe they used leather thongs so they where removable. If you want to get some great e-mail newsletters that have training updates along with just current events, check out America’s QH daily, it is free and you do not have to be a member of AQHA to get their newsletter. Oh, my chemistry test I took on Monday went well, I got a 97% on it! Remember C Me Shine is running for HOTD on Feb 28th. Please keep voting for Zorro so he can get HOTM! If you would like to see something in my daily blogs, just let me know! That is all for now, Amber and Zorro.

Saturday’s update! Today I worked with Zorro and Kai. It was much colder to day, the low 20s and a little breezy, but for a native Minnesotan, it feels nice still! So I ground drove Kai with the western saddle, I think it was a first with the western saddle, I usually use a surcingle and sometimes the English saddle. She was amazing and had her sweet personality! I rode Zorro hunt seat, he was pretty good, a little funny about his headset at first, but got over it, so today went pretty well in the end. It was nice to be able to ride! I hope tomorrow is pretty nice too. I did wear a coat today when I rode, where yesterday I wore just a sweatshirt, so I am being sensible about the weather. Sunday’s update, it got to be around 35 degrees today, much better! I only rode Zorro though, because I had a bunch of studying and whatnot to do. I rode him Hunt Seat and he was very good for me, and did not even complain about working on the bit!!! Improvements being made everyday! It was a little slippery, but not too terribly bad, so I could canter, yippy! Hope everyone else is doing well, and able to ride if you have the same winter conditions as me! All of you in the south where it is over 60, you are just spoiled, JK! Well, thanks for voting for Zorro, please keep voting so he can get HOTM, he can only get it with your help and I really mean it! Ttyl, A and Zorro, As always voting for you!

Hey, we called the vet out this past week. He said that there wasn't anything seriously wrong with her except that she's burning off more calories trying to keep warm than what she's taking in. He told us that we should blanket her and that we should get her feed with at least 6% or 7% fat in it. So we bought her a blanket and just yesterday we finally got to the feed store to get her new feed. She's doing great too! It was nice and warm today, so I took her blanket off to groom her. She looks better! I can tell that she is deffinately getting some more fat on her! After that, I put it back on and took her out to the front field to let her walk around and graze for awhile. Hahah, she was mostly just following me around! Left a vote!

Hey, I bet you were jealous about my coast trip. It was a lot of fun. You're really having 70 days? Is that unusual there. We're having 50 degree days here and it's so nice and warm and very unusual. It does need to rain or snow soon though because we are very suceptible to drought here. We all went for a walk on Sunday and I rode in Pippin's cart with a friend. Suddenly Pippin saw Buddy, a neighbour's dog. Well, he and Buddy decided to go further than anyone else and we took off down the road. They were racing each other with Pippin chasing Buddy whenever he got a chance and prancing and kicking up his heels. It was pretty windy so that might be what got into them. When we turned around we were against the wind but Pippin, the mighty little horse, put his head down and ran back. He did really well having that weight and the wind. I was quite proud of him. And on Tuesday I got to ride Prince again. He was really good this time and both he and Eddie were pretty fiesty. This time the jumping went well and I was prepared to prevent him from bucking me off so that was good too. He did bolt once. Eddie was on the other side of the field and he doesn't like being separated from him. He does lose his concentration or rather I lose his concentration when Eddie's around. It's too bad I don't have time to work with him more. But I guess I can't complain since at least I get to ride once a week. So, are you still planning on taking Mesa to the rodeo? I bet that will be fun. Well, here's a vote for you and I hope you enjoy your weekend. ttyl

Thanks for the advice. I actually feed her twice a day. Now that I switched her to senior feed, she seems to have a lot more energy! I'm not sure if she's gaining weight back yet but since she does have more energy I'm guessing that feeding her more is definately helping her. Today I was just walking around the pasture on the snow and ice and she was following me. Just a week ago, she wouldn't have done that because she was just so tired. I was actually thinking about getting her a blanket but then I talked to the previous owner and he said that she didn't really need one (he never had one for her and she always did fine). I think in a couple days I'm going to take her on a ride and see if she's getting much better. Well, I hope you get to go to the show and good luck! Left a vote! Ttyl

Thanks so much for asking about me. I'm fine. I left for a week to go and enjoy some time at the coast. It was so nice to escape the cold weather and enjoy some warm sunshine. Tiny, my dog, really loved it too. Her arthritis didn't bother her because of the warmth and she was running around on the sand. It's too bad I couldn't bring Pippin with me. I'm sure he would have enjoyed it and I would like to see him running in the surf. It sounds as though you've been having lots of fun with your girls. I got to ride Prince this morning. I hadn't ridden in a whole month because I've just been so busy. It sure was fun to be back in the saddle again. Prince was a little bit naughty about it though. We jumped two feet but he jumped too soon and made it huge. And then because I got left behind in the saddle and the horn went into my stomach he got mad at me on landing and started his bucking bronco routine again. Fortunately, I was able to get his head up and put a stop to that. He was pretty good otherwise though I think he paid more attention to Eddie who was being ridden by my sister than to me. Oh well, nothing is better riding even with some minor issues. Have your ridden lately? We're still enjoying sunny days here. This time last year we had two feet of snow. I'm hoping for an early spring. That sure would be nice. Here's a vote for you. ttyl

Tarra is doing great! She's very attached to me now and every time she sees or hears me talking, she starts whinnying for me! I've learned a lot more about Tarra too! She absolutely loves to run! And she's fast too! I got her a hunter green halter for her for Christmas and it looks lovely on her! I even let her open it out of the bag! I put treats in the bottom of it and as soon as she smelt them, she stuck her whole head in the bag! It was hilarious!! I haven't gotten to ride her in awhile because of the weather. It just snowed yesterday and it has been freezing outside. After about five minutes of being out there just to feed and groom her, I can't stand to be out there because by that time, I can't feel my face anymore! Well, I'll talk to you later! Left a vote!

Happy New Year!
Nice new photos. I'm glad you've had lots of time to ride. And riding with a friend is even better. Your girls sound like they're really doing well. Good luck with them. I have a short Pippin anecdote I thought you'd enjoy. Someone left a message on one of Pippin's YouTube videos asking about girth size. So I went out to his pen late yesterday evening. It was pitch black and he was FAST asleep. He didn't even hear me open his gate and it isn't quiet. Well, he awoke, probably a little startled, and fumbled out of his shed. I kind of waved my hand in his direction and felt a nice bite on my thumb. He didn't bite all the way down. I guess he realized what it was. Anyway, then I wrapped the measuring tape around his girth and he let out this high pitch squeal. It was really funny. I guess I took him by surprise. Since I didn't have any light I had to hold the measuring tape in my hands until I got back inside in order to see what is his size. 43" if that is any interest to you. Anyway, have fun riding with your cousin and here's a vote for you.

How's everything there? Still busy? I just got a couple of books, early Christmas presents, for training dressage horses in hand. I want to teach Pippin and take him all the way. I think it will be a lot of fun and we've both got a lot of hard work ahead of us. We've got about 4" of snow here and I took Pippin out with the cart on Friday. It was a little harder for him to pull the cart through the snow but once we got through the forest and onto the paved road he was really raring to go. He galloped a nice long stretch and it was so much fun. And best of all, he wasn't bolting but paying attention to what I was indicating. Well, I hope you're enjoying your weekend and here's a vote.

Yes, Pippin has quite a bit of muscle now. He gets stronger all the time. Of course, right now it's hidden under three inches of fur. He looks like a mini buffalo. So cute and huggable. That's great that you've been having fun training Robyn. Too bad you haven't had much time with your girls though. I'm really happy that I got to ride Prince last Tuesday. I hadn't ridden for three weeks. My knee felt pretty sore though but it was worth it. Prince was the most behaved he's been ever. He jumped well and I even got some nice shoulder in out of him. And then I backed him up and really collected him nicely and straight from that position brought him into a trot. It was so collected I couldn't believe it. It is an amazing feeling to have a collected horse beneath one. And then I let him stretch out and a few minutes later I asked him for a trot and he voluntarily collected it again. That's a far cry from the bucking bronco I rode three weeks ago. I don't think I'll ever try him bareback again though. I don't mind risking injury but I don't want to risk not being able to ride. Well, here's a vote for you and I hope you had a great weekend.

That's good that you're fixing up the trailer. I hope Mesa won't be too scared of it. My knee is doing a lot better. Thanks for asking. I've taken off the brace and I can bend it a little more. I took Pippin out yesterday with the cart. Several of went and I drove while the others all took turns riding with me. Pippin is so much stronger now and has no problem cantering with two people. It's so much fun and I'm glad that I can share that now. Well, here's a vote for you. Good luck with the trailer!
