How We Met

We were looking for our first family horse in the paper, and we found an free ad for a 23 year old family horse. We were suprised when we visited their house and saw that it was in a neighborhood. When we were shown to their tiny, tiny back yard our jaws droppped when we saw one lonely horse, all by himself. He were all skin and bones, mane and tail rolled and knotted into dredlocks. But he wasn't comepletely by himself. He hade a huge arrangement of radiators, a swingset, lawnmower- do I need to go on? He had previously gotten tangled up in the swingset, too. The family proudly pointed him out, and our jaws dropped even lower. His ribs were jutting out, hips like a wire hanger, and his face scarred over. The owners explained that in the ice storm a couple of years back, they had left his halter on, and then tried to remove it after the storm. The skin came with it. We almost cried. We trailered him home, and had to cut all of his mane off because of the matting. We then gradually placed him on a complete senior feed, because his teeth were far from help.We didn't know his breed, but he looked like a arabian. To our suprise he lived a happy life for about two years, more than we expected, until old age previous neglect took over. He was a sweet boy, who never gave up..
