My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Check out his stall to see if "mommy" put any new toys in his stall, rolling in the sand.

Pet Peeves: Water (except bathing) He's like "oh my god, I'm getting my feet wet" all the while acting like a premadona lifting his feet high up in the air and almost feels like he's tip toeing across the puddle/water, Harley motorcycles or any LOUD motorcycles

My Horse's motto: Husband: get rid of the horse
Me: then you pay for my therapy
A horse is the best therapist, they can make you happy when your sad, give you joy to set you free. Even if it's only for a short time.

How We Met

I met him when his 1st owner purchased him in October of 2003, by March of 2004 the owner called and stated he was too tall for her, but her price for him was way out of my reach (esp. since I had 2 small kids at home). She called me back in May 2004, stating that after putting an english trainer on him, he would "blow-up" and jump 10 feet to the side.(well if you know how to ride a Peruvian you know you don't use your legs and your not on their mouths-this is what happened-squeez- e ment go but the rider got on his mouth-stop and he didn't know where to go except up). Anyhow she lowered his price she wanted him to go to a good home. I agreed to come up and see him. Since she bought him the past October she had moved him to multi-barns, further stressing him. When I finally saw him he was thin, backbone sticking out, bad habits and would hug the stall wall when you walked in afraid of you. I still bought him even though his vet check was OK, but he had Myopia (couldn't see distance, until things got close then it spooked him, the one reason why I trained him to voice commands. Which now anytime we come to something I tell him "V bridge" or "V rock" Yes rock, they are dangerous to a horse that cannot see it until it's too late and it might eat him...LOL. He's also now the best horse in the barn for the farrier. I told my farrier after a couple of months later to ask V "foot please" The farrier reached down and tried to get V to pick up his foot-he wouldn't, so the farrier said "foot" still nothing, then he said "foot please" and that horse just picked up his foot and held it for the farrier.
But in the beginning I had him 2 months and entered him in his 1st horse show (our club only has 1 a year)we wound up getting 3 3rd place ribbons. We are still working together finding comfort in one another, he lets me do whatever I want to do-introducing him to new things is beginning to be a new adventure to him and he learns still after 5 years to further trust me.

Common in Peruvians is stumbling. My mare really stumbles but I don't know the norm, so do you know if stumbling a lot is common? Because she just stumbles when we are walking a long sometimes. She'll actually stumble and almost fall. It's scary and I don't want anything to happen to her. But I wanted to get another Peruvian oaso owner's advice! Thanks!

Me again
I just noticed that his name is 'WF' Viajero. I geuss I should put that on Nina's (Flor Pequena) because she was born at Westview Farms which is what the stands for in her case. Was a Westview Farm bred horse, too? In NY or FL? Our horses might be related!!!

You got my vote! But I really do have a soft spot for Peruvians. I've only had my girl a month but she's just awesome. Yes, slow to trust, but once you have it, you've got! Sweet disposition with the most fabulous mercedes glide ride!

I have a peruvian but she wasn't trained the Peruvian way so I ride her like you would any other horse. I got her last year, and yes, Peruvians and slow trusting seem to go together!! Here's a vote and welcome. Peruvians are breed of the month!
