HI!!!!
Thank-you SOOOOOO much for making Outlaw HOTD!!!!! It means SO much to me to hear all of the thoughtful comment; especially the ones about not giving up hope of owning him one day, too <3 Those touch me deeply!!!! Because I don't have a lot of time and there are so many people to thank, forgive me for not personalizing the comments!! But here's a vote for all of you to thank-you for such an amazing day!! Sadly tho, because I've been sick this past week with Flu B, I haven't been out to the barn on forever and can't go see Outlaw (or any of the horses!!) and give him some extra treats and love...but as soon as I am better I will defiantly be telling him about his special day and about all of the wonderful people who love him!!

Again...Thank-you SO much for giving Outlaw HOTD!!!

Weather finally turning nice, just have to deal with the mud, now. Saw a very strange sight yesterday, thought I heard a tractor on the road, thought it was strange with it being so muddy, looked out, and yep, very large tractor with a very large, dead white cow dangling by a hind leg from the raise up spikes. Don't even wanna know. Maybe a Thanksgiving cow? Hoping, hoping to ride tomorrow, left votes, Cheryl & Cisco

we would love your support, please
Before I bought Sterl May(read her how we met story please),I used to lease a solid bred paint mare, at a local boarding stable not far from home. Her name was Fool Kat, I leased because as an adult getting back into riding, I wanted to be sure before I bought my own horse. The barn owners thought that I should buy a foal and raise it up. One of the other riders at the barn heard this and she said she knew of someone that had a horse for sale for not too much $$$ she mostly wanted a good home for this horse. The only thing was, she was a STANDARDBRED, that didn't mean anything to me. I went to meet her, and I will never forget the feeling I had when I walked into her paddock, she tuRned to look at me, THOSE EYES, THOSE BEAUTIFUL EYES, she still has those beautiful eyes, thanks for your support, we left a vote too. Love DONNA lEE

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS, Let There Be Peace:
Please keep the Sandy Hook Elementary School community in Newtown, Connecticut in prayer. Also pray for the safety of all children, for evil does not respect boundaries.

Matthew 2:16-18
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
18 "A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more."

HISTORY OF THE MORGAN( REQUESTED BY KOKO)

Over the next 30 years, the little bay stallion worked long, hard hours in the fields and on the roads of Vermont. Gradually, the local population began to talk about the feats of "the Justin Morgan horse". Standing just over 14 hands tall, Justin Morgan's exploits gained him fame because he was not as big as colonial workhorses nor as tall and long-legged as racehorses, yet he consistently outperformed both. There was the time he pulled a log no draft horse could budge, the day only he had the beauty, spirit and manners to carry President James Monroe on a muster-day parade ground; and the time he outran the most winning racehorse central Vermont had ever known, at least until that day.
Doing it all and doing it well, Justin Morgan remained sound of eye, wind, and limb throughout a lifetime of two ordinary horses. That should have been enough, but the stallion added still more: showy, ground-covering gaits with speed to spare at any one of them; a gentle disposition that made him safe enough for a child to handle yet spirited enough for any horseman, beauty men would to recall decades after his death; and a rare courage that made men who lost bets on him hit their flagons of rum and say, 'To the little Morgan!' and drink deeply.

Hi, how was your weekend? I had a pretty good weekend, a bit dreary though. We finally got some rain, not very much, but enough to at least wet the dust down. Of course when the ground gets a little bit muddy the horses have to roll, so I got them all brushed out. Thankfully Sierra doesn't roll very often yet.

Question of the day: If it is raining outside, would your horse rather stay out in the pasture or come into the barn?
Misty doesn't usually mind being out in the rain, but Sierra is a bit of a weenie and will run to her shed if she feels a few drops of rain. Dakota will usually stay out in his pasture unless it is really storming.

Have a great Sunday and dont forget to vote Dakota for your Nov. HOTM!

Continued history of the Canadian horse:

The Canadian breed became renowned for its abilities as a roadster, racer and stylish harness horse. By 1820, classes for Canadian Horses were being held at agricultural exhibitions in Lower Canada and in New York. Over the next decades, increasing numbers of Canadian horses, including the best stallions, were sold to the United States. Many found their way into the foundation stock of other breeds such as the Morgan, Tennessee Walker, American Saddlebred and Standardbred.
With the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War in 1861, Canadian Horses once again were used for miltary service when thousands were exported to supply the Union Army. By the end of the war in 1865, at least 30,000 Canadian Horses had been exported for military service.
Later, in 1874, Canadian Horses took part in the historic North West Mounted Police Great March West, in the Northwest Rebellion of 1885 and are even said to have served in the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Canadian Horses sent to serve in the Boer War in South Africa did so well that hundreds were subsequently purchased for the British Imperial forces and shipped overseas. During World War I, more Canadian Horses were shipped off to battle in France, never to return.
Ironically, the popularity and availability of the Canadian Horse almost caused its demise as a distinct breed.

Yesterday I rode Misty and ponied Sierra. They both did pretty good, considering I dont do it with them very often. Sometimes Sierra tends to get a bit rowdy when I am ponying her, but yesterday she was very well behaved. It is still pretty chilly out but at least the wind has died down.

Question of the day: If you were looking to buy another horse, would you rather buy a foal and train it from the begining, or buy a full grown horse that isnt trained quite the way you would like it to be?

Have a great weekend everyone and tommorow I will be blogging on Morgans!

HISTORY OF THE WELSH COB, SECTION D, CONTINUED
The Welsh Cob is a strong, general purpose animal with free forceful movement. He should show great quality and have as much substance as possible without being coarse. Welsh Cobs have spirit and inner fire, however this is tempered by a gentle, kindly disposition and a willingness to obey. These attributes, combined their stamina and proud, aristocratic bearing make them the natural choice of many discriminating horsemen of all ages. The Welsh Cob made an outstanding contribution to man; both in war and in peace. During 1845, Henry Tudor ascended the throne of England due to the efforts of the Welsh Cob militia mounted on their swift and hardy Welsh Cobs.Up until 40 or 50 years ago the Welsh Cobs was so valuable to the British war office that premiums were payed to the best stallions. The War Office used Welsh Cobs for the mounted infantry and for pulling heavy guns and equipment through rugged, mountainous terrain noy easily surmounted by motorized vehicles. The Morgan horse almost certainy owes his origin to the Welsh Cobs left behind in America by the British Cavalry at the end of the 18th century. In peacetime, prior to the advent of motorised vehicles, the Welsh Cob proved to be the quickest, most reliable transport for docters and businessmen. Recent importations from Great Britain have sparked an active interest in these animals across North America. As did their ancestors, the modern day Welsh Cob and Welsh Pony of Cob Type truly personify the words of the motto on the Welsh Coat of Arms-Ich Dien-"I Serve". THIS IS PROBABLY THE LAST BLOG I WILL BE DOING ON WELSH PONIES AND COBS, I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THEM! I WILL HAVE A QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR YOU GUYS TOMMOROW, THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE SUPPORT! PS. IF YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BREED YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO DO A COUPLE BLOGS ON, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL SEE WHAT I CAN DO. ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND EVERYONE! MARIA, DAKOTA N THE GIRLS

HISTORY OF THE WELSH MOUNTAIN PONY
Life was far from easy for those early Welsh ponies. They faced elimination when Henry VIII decreed that all horses under 15 hands be destroyed. Somehow some survived! Before mechanization, they became popular all across Great Britain doing heavy work on the small farms. As well they provided valuable transportation pulling sizeable loads and as riding and pack animals. They served their masters faithfully and displayed a strength and stamina that many horses twice their size couldnt match. Because of this they were in great demand to haul the coal out of the depths of the mines. Fortunately the lot of the present day Welsh Mountain ponies has changed to one of relative ease. Please support my Welsh Mountain pony Dakota during his Nov. HOTM run, and to those of you that are already supporting him a huge thank you!! Leaving votes for everyone! Maria, Dakota N the girls

Hi Everyone....A note from Frances and Fancy

I remember meeting Shari, Daisy and Levy. I get so excited when children take a love for horses. Daisy was so excited over having Levy and I was so impressed by her enthusiasm. As they got acquainted with Levy, they learned he was dealing with some health issues. Daisy wanted to learn about her horse and take good care of him. And right to this day she is doing just that.

Daisy would read the horse blogs and sometimes get so tickled over things she read. She loved to read about the adventures Fancy experienced as she grew from foal to filly and learned different lessons each day.

OH! And reading about Daisy's need for speed was so much FUN! Shari was afraid, but she let that beautiful little girl be a cowgirl! Daisy was learning to barrel race with Levy!

To make friends with such a sweet family was a great reward for me. We somehow inspired each other from day to day. I miss their daily blog since Shari has been ill. I totally understand as I still visit their pages because they read them when they are able.

I really do wish our HC friends will take the time to re-acquaint or meet for the first time, Shari, Daisy, and Levy.

Love Fancy & Frances

Thanks so much Frances. I know Shari and Daisy think very highly of you and love you and Fancy...Joey & Crew

How are you doing? It's spring here! Everything is blooming or is about to, Pippin is all handsome with his trimmed hooves and winter coat, and Eddie and Prince are almost in their summer finery! I love this time of year!

Yesterday I drove Prince which was nice for a change. I've been driving Eddie a lot lately and my sister has been driving Prince because he's a bit more obedient and she's less experienced. Anyway, I had a friend with me and we didn't want to leave Eddie behind so we grabbed a halter and lead and she sat in the back of the cart and led him. We did a fast trot most of the way and he was SO good.

At one point we stopped and tied Eddie to a post so we could gallop. We weren't about to try that with a lead line! Going fast in a cart is so much fun. Especially when you have a good horse. And we're so lucky, we've got three!

I hope you're having fun with your horses too and enjoying the spring weather.

Many thanks to all who supported Joanna's Pixie Dust last month for hotm. This month we have two runners, Texas 209066 and my other page, Shadowfax 49806! I made a tribute page to the horse of my dreams, Shadowfax. He's on my sister's account but I run the page since she's never been on the HC. I hope you'll stop by and check him out.

Leaving a vote for you in remembrance of Hershey Kiss 233547. May he rest in peace. Have a great weekend!

PS I just wrote on Gryffin's page on the DC.

Thank you all so much for voting for Pixie Dust this month. It's my turn this week to answer my Horse Channel friends who are voting and since I've also been writing to my Dog and Cat Channel friends too who didn't know Joanna, I would like to reiterate some of what has already been written on the HC.

It may come as a shock but this blog is written by Pippin! After all, as the dogs and cats have been telling me, it is "horse" channel after all and not "human" channel! So, I booted mama off the computer and put my hooves to the keys. Good thing I have tiny hooves!

Pixie Dust had tiny hooves too and like me, she would love to go into the house. Her mama, Joanna, was bedridden for 9 years and Pixie Dust would visit her and bring her joy. We horses have a way of doing that. Even I, a feisty little stallion.

I have the greatest temptation to nip and sometimes I just can't control myself. It's especially difficult when people wave their hands in front of my face like I'm a statue or something. I try my best but I end up succumbing and "yelp" I've shown that hand who is boss. Or, even harder, someone bends over in front of me with their back towards me. What do I see but a big broad target? Oh my, who could resist?

But… when someone is sick or disabled, I'm on my best behaviour. I intuit when someone needs sympathy and not a nip. And that is how I know that Pixie Dust must have felt that way too. She was a wonderful therapy horse and knew how to make people feel better and be happy. (Plus, Joanna never said that she nipped anyone. Perfect little Pixie Dust!)

For 7 years Joanna worked with Pixie Dust and introduced the world of the love of horses to so many children. After Joanna suffered respiratory failure and became bedridden Pixie Dust continued to inspire not only so many more children but also Joanna herself. Joanna always wrote with such love about her tiny little horse.

Joanna died at the age of 34 on the 23rd of September, 2010. Pixie Dust died just this February. I will write more about them in subsequent blogs. So, please continue to stop by with a vote and a note (however small) and I'll be back daily with more of their amazing story.

Vote for Pixie Dust HC 101958

Leaving a vote of appreciation.
