Type of Riding: Dressage, but most of the time, Gypsy and I enjoy just going out bareback for a leisurely ride.

Once in a while, I put the western bridle on her, so she doesn't forget how to neck rein!

My Horse's Achievements: In 1994, Gypsy took two first place ribbons in very stiff competition at a large non rated Arabian show. (she's a registered Half Arabian)

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Carrots- hands down!

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Go for a ride-preferably bareback!

Watch traffic go by on the road-she's an only horse- and watch the sqirrels and chimunks run around the yard. She even lets squirrels use her for a perch when she's near their feeder!

Since she has no other horse buddies, she adopts anything that shows up in the yard, from a lame crow down to an orphaned skunk!

Pet Peeves: Not being fed on time, or being ridden too close to feeding time!

How We Met

Gypsy was originally my mother's horse - she bought her as a long yearling to use to start a breeding operation. At the same time, I bought a Quarter Horse filly of the same age.

After a short time,we discovered that Gypsy and I got along better than I did with the Quarter Horse filly, so that Christmas,Mom presented me with Gypsy's registration papers, and we traded horses. Both of us were happy with the switch, as the Quarter Horse was a lot mellower horse, which is what my mother really wanted.

Two years later, my parents sold the farm and moved out of the state, so all the horses were sold except Gypsy, who stayed with me here in Minnesota.

Update 12/19
Sorry I haven't been on much- my carpal tunnel and tendinitis have been acting up. Must have somethiing to do with severe impact trying to keep Gypsy's hooves from packing up and her walking on teeter totter hooves!

I am taking a short break from here, except popping in occasionally to do the quizzes and keep up my account. Hopefully, I'll be able to be on more soon.

HI, left a vote. I took my 13 month old grandson Issiac out to see Dusty yesterday. Issiac just loves animals, he always lights up when he sees one, and he giggles too. He just loves Dusty, and Dusty really like Issiac too. Dusty would come over and sniff him from time to time. They will grow up together and be the best of buds. Dusty is so sweet and mellow, I think I finally got it right this time.

Logan was sold and going to his new forever home. They are picking him up today.

Info on the beautiful Peruvian Paso Horse
*Please read its very interesting sorry its so long

In recent years, the world's horsemen have begun to rediscover the pleasures of naturally gaited horses; and horse fanciers from many nations are turning to the Peruvian Paso horse as the ideal mount for the twentieth century horsemen. Thanks to its unique, inbom, four-beat lateral gait, the Peruvian horse is the smoothest riding horses in the world. He is also one of the showiest of all horses because of an inner pride and energy that make him travel with a style and carriage as if always "on parade". The temperament of the Peruvian horse is one of the world's best, thanks to a long standing Peruvian practice of not breeding animals that have an unsuitable disposition. In addition, the Peruvian is the only horse in the world with "termino" , which is a graceful, flowing movement in which the forelegs are rolled towards the outside as the horse strides forward, much like the arm motion of a swimmer. Thank you all sooo much for Scout's HOTD!!! I was so happy and surprised yesterday when I came on HC and saw him in the HOTD window. I thought that he might win HOTD sometime, but I had never guessed it would be so soon! Thanks again, it really made my day!

Yesterday Ethan and I took Dakota and Scout for their first ride together. They both did great, they don't seem to mind each other anymore. I still have to feed them separately though because Scout gets grass pellets and sweet feed and if I let them eat together Dakota will eat all of it and he doesn't need it. Scout just loves being around Dakota, he follows him everywhere! His previous owner said that she used to have a pony that was friends with Scout and that he would think he was in 7th heaven if he got to be around another pony and he does! They will still squeal at each other once in a while but it seems like they are getting to be friends.

Does anyone know what is wrong that the videos aren't showing up on the video page? I uploaded a video of Misty last week and it still wasn't there this week so I uploaded another of Dakota and Scout and that one hasn't showed either. Has anyone else been having this problem?

WELSH PONY SECTION B
The general description of the Welsh pony section b can be described simply as a larger version of the Welsh Mountain pony section A, with greater emphasis on on riding pony action and ability, while retaining true Welsh type. The Welsh Section B has been selectively bred from the Welsh Mountain pony, and is generally taller and lighter in build. First bred to meet the demand of a larger riding type for Welsh hill farmers; Who needed a means of transport for shepherding across the hills, cattle herding, and rounding up wild mountain ponies. Their uses even extended to riding to stock fairs and taking part in pony races. It is thought that infusions of Thoroughbred and Hackney blood were used to create this type. In 1911, it was decided to ban Hackney bloodlines from registering into the stud book; There had been several incidences of pure Hackneys competing and winning at National Welsh pony shows. The Welsh Section B has excellent riding pony qualities, combined with good temperament and natural athletic jumping ability. They make an ideal choice of pony for the competitive child to excel in any sphere: from jumping, endurance to driving, as well as being able to hold their own among top class riding ponies in the show ring. Early history of the Welsh Mountain pony.
The Welsh Mountain pony, one of the earliest established breeds, has roamed the mountains and wild regions of Wales for over a thousand years. Descriptions of these ponies from the time of Julias Caesar( when many where shipped to Rome to take part in chariot racing) tell of the beautiful head with huge, bold eyes and small pricked ears. Subjected to the rugged terrains of the Welsh landscape and often severe weather conditions, the Welsh Mountain pony not only survived for centuries, it thrived! Thus has evolved a breed world-renowned for its intelligence, strength, soundness and endurance. Welsh Mountain ponies are justly recognized as one of the finest foundations for horse breeding in the world. GROWTH OF THE BREED IN AMERICA While Welsh ponies were imported to America as early as the 1880's the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America was not established as a breed registry until 1907. Interest in the breed dropped during the depression years , but through the combined efforts of breeders, particularly those in the East, participation in shows and fairs continued. By the 1950's the numbers of members grew, more ponies were imported and interest in increased dramatically. Over the next few decades Welsh became the fastest growing breed in America. Registered Welsh ponies and cobs can be found in every state and also in Canada. To date, over 45000 Welsh ponies and cobs have been registered. Today Welsh ponies and cobs can be found competing in nearly every discipline...hunters,driving, dressage, combined training, combined driving, English and Western pleasure and heavy harness. Hey gypsy!
Left you a vote! Logans gravel in his hoof isn't much better and he is still limping, but soon he is going to get shoes on his front hooves so that might help him! My trainer said when he gets shoes it will elevate his hooves off the ground a little so they are not touching all the dirt and mud, and that will help prevent him from getting so many abscesses and gravels! Any horsey plans today? Left you a vote! Please spread the word about me running for August hotm and please vote for me! Come visit me!

Leaving a vote. I just want to thank everyone for voting and congrulating Ransom on his HOTD win. Today I put Ransom and Sugar out in the big pasture today. They did pretty good. At first Sugar was squealing and making a big show. Then she settled down. When the first sniffed each other Sug took off running and Ransom ran after her. He started trying to herd her and then they kicked at each other. They are both fine. Everytime Sug started acting all silly Ransom would just look at her like "What are you doing?" Then he'd just go back to grazing. By the end of the afternoon they were grazing kinda close to each other. I moved Ransom to the small pen and keeping Sug in the big pasture for the night like we have been doing. Once in the small pasture Ransom got down and rolled. I wish I had a camera to get some pics of him rolling!! I have never seen a horse roll from one side to the other! Sugar usually just rolls on one side. Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday.
