My Horse's Achievements: For the short time I owned her I accomplished side stepping her. lol Belle, I will miss you so much. I remember the first day I saw you. You amazed me, four years of never being rode and 4 months after having a baby my trainers boyfriend accomplished riding you bareback, with a halter and lead rope. You never bucked and never had your ears back. Now you are barely standing and walking side ways. When I saw you today and heard that you were going to be put down (most likely) I almost started to cry. When I saw you and cracker jack (belle`s baby) and he was caring for you, it was awesome. The saddest moment was when you almost ran me over. Although everyone laughed, including me, that was the moment I saw how much you have changed. We will allllll misss you so much, but PLEASEEEE keep the strength and just keep going! You were my first horseee!

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Mollasses Flavored

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Eat

Pet Peeves: Being brushed on the stomach and being touched while eating.

How We Met

I got her for my 14th birthday. When I rode her the first time with a halter and lead robe was the time I saw how great she was (for the short time). She had just turned 18 when she just gave up. She started to buck trying to get her to trot or canter and kicked in the stall when I would groom her. In conclusion I traded her for Shilo (Copper Sunset).

If anybody knows any cheap way of helping or curing this disease please please please please tell me and please pray for her.
Belle, I miss you so much. I am so sad that it had to be this way. I love you and i will always remember you.. Rest in peace....

I'm very sorry about belle
I sned many "air hugs" i'm sad to but not from death, my lease on stormy ends tommorow :( Today we would like you to meet Mariah Song. Her owner had an ad on the Internet saying she was looking for a young Arab, and a nice lady from a rescue shelter messaged her back and said that she had rescued 4 pregnant mares from being slaughtered and one beautiful stallion, and it turned out that Mariah's mom was one of the lucky four out of 22 to be rescued. Later, Mariah's owner and her dad drove about 3 hours just to look at her. The lady had several beautiful arab babies she could choose from and Mariah had the cutest personality and all she wanted was attention so her owner chose her! And she NEVER will regret it! The lady gave her Mariah for free because some one had given her, her first horse when she was Mariahs owner's age! Mariah is even registered!!!! She is definitely AN ANSWER TO PRAYER!. Could you please vote for this gorgeous Arabian mare. her blog # is 62671. just replace your blog # with Mariahs blog #. Your blog # is the number at the end of the web address. Well, g2g -left a vote and virtual carrots apples and peppermints! <% <% <% O' O' >O< 'O 'O %> %> Thanks again, Stormy and Annie ~ Gypsy and Ann

Here's today's vote! Today, I'd like you to meet a wonderful horse named Sundance. He was a beautiful 15 year old sorrel gelding with a cream mane and tail. He and his owner had many happy rides bareback along the trails. He was a versatile horse who could be ridden both English and Western. Sundance loved jellybeans, and hated having his ears messed with. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer, and had to be put to sleep this last Thursday, June 26. Please vote Sundance HOTD! I'm so sorry. I understand, if you have to do it, you have to do it. If there's anything else you'd like me to research about I'll gladly will. Or if you want her to get another award I'll help with that too. ~Here's a cyber peppermint for her~ I read an article once about putting your pets down. Most people don't realize-I didn't-that the vet can often come to you instead of you having to make that long sad drive back home with an empty trailer. It's so much more comforting to be able to let your horse breathe her last in your arms, and her last thought be knowing she is loved! And I know for myself, it's comforting to know that your pet is buried nearby, and I like to visit their grave for a few moments of peace and remembering. One more thing: “IF YOU BURY HIM IN THIS SPOT, THE SECRET OF WHICH YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE, HE WILL COME TO YOU WHEN YOU CALL – COME TO YOU OVER THE FAR, DIM PASTURES OF DEATH, AND DOWN THE REMEMBERED PATHS TO YOUR SIDE AGAIN. AND THOUGH YOU RIDE OTHER LIVING HORSES THROUGH LIFE, THEY SHALL NOT SHY AT HIM OR RESENT HIM COMING. FOR HE IS YOURS AND HE BELONGS THERE. PEOPLE MAY SCOFF AT YOU, WHO SEE NO LIGHTEST BLADE OF GRASS BENT BY HIS FOOTFALL, WHO HEAR NO NICKER PITCHED TOO FINE FOR INSENSITIVE EARS. PEOPLE WHO MAY NEVER REALLY LOVE A HORSE. SMILE AT THEM THEN, FOR YOU SHALL KNOW SOMETHING THAT IS HIDDEN FROM THEM, AND WHICH IS WELL WORTH KNOWING. THE ONE PLACE TO BURY A HORSE IS IN THE HEART OF HIS MISTRESS.” AUTHOR UNKOWN ♥

New Treatment for EPM
Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a progressive, degenerative disease of the central nervous system of the horse. The disease is characterized by asymmetrical ataxia with or without muscle atrophy. There are several diseases of the central nervous system that can mimic EPM. It is important for the veterinarian to do a thorough neurological examination with appropriate laboratory diagnostic support such as a cerebrospinal (CSF) analysis. Early, accurate diagnosis and treatment offer the best chance for success.
Until recently there were no approved treatment products for EPM. Veterinarians, out of necessity, had to use products that had not been evaluated for efficacy or safety when used in treating horses with EPM. In July of 2001, the FDA approved Marquis® (15% w/w ponazuril) Antiprotozoal Oral Paste, the first medication for the treatment of EPM in the United States. Marquis is manufactured by Bayer in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Marquis is a prescription medication. It is a unique paste formulation with a gel-like consistency. The active ingredient of Marquis is ponazuril, an anticoccidial compound with cidal activity against the protozoal parasite that causes EPM. The dosage regimen is 5 mg/kg (2.27 mg/lb) body weight given orally, once per day, for 28 consecutive days. This product is packaged with four syringe barrels of paste per box and a calibrated dosing ring for accuracy and ease of administration. Each syringe contains enough paste to treat one, 1200 pound horse for seven days. The four syringes comprise the entire 28 day treatment program. Marquis should be stored at controlled room temperature, between 59 and 86 F. This product has a 24 month shelf life.
Marquis has demonstrated activity against Sarcocystis neurona (the causative agent of EPM) in both the laboratory and field setting. Efficacy studies were conducted in five states by seven different investigators. These studies demonstrated the effectiveness of Marquis against naturally-occurring cases of EPM. Marquis has also been demonstrated to be safe when used according to label directions. Target animal safety studies* at up to six times (6X) the label dose for two times (2X) the label treatment duration, produced sporadic inappetence, occasional loose stools and, in three of four study mares, moderate uterine edema. The safe use of ponazuril in horses intended for breeding purposes, during pregnancy, or in lactating mares, has not been evaluated.
It is important to note that while Marquis may effectively clear the horse of S. neurona, it will have no effect on irreparable, central nervous system damage caused by the parasite prior to treatment. The prognosis for animals treated for EPM may be dependent upon the severity of the disease and the duration of infection before treatment. Early and accurate diagnosis followed by immediate treatment are critical for best clinical results.

Found this too........
TREATMENT
Tne sooner treatment begins, the better the horse's chances are for recovery. Sixty to 70 percent of EPM cases aggressively treated show significant or complete reversal of symptoms. Many horses are able to return to normal activity.
Here are some things you should know about treating EPM:
At present, there are no labeled anti-protozoal drugs approved by the FDA to treat EPM, consult your veterinarian.
Anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed to alleviate symptoms and prevent reactions to parasite die-off during treatment.
Supplementation with vitamin E, an antioxidant, is often recommended to aid healing of nervous tissue.
Average duration of treatments is 3-6 months, but can sometimes be longer.
Current Practice is to extend treatment 30-60 days beyond the elimination of symptoms or until a negative CSF test is obtained.
Long-term treatments can be costly.
Although complications are rare, treatments may affect stallion fertility and may pose certain health risks to unborn foals.
While success rates are high, not all horses respond positively to therapy. Approximately10-20% of horses may experience a relapse.
While a horse is being treated, taking intermittent blood samples may be recommended to monitor potential side effects such as anemia, low platelet count and low white blood cell count.
Since some drugs used to treat EPM are antifolate drugs, supplementation with folic acid (a B vitamin) is recommended.
Horses undergoing treatment should be closely observed for signs of improvement or decline, especially negative side effects to the drugs, such as acute diarrhea.
Be sure to report any changes in the horse's condition to your veterinarian.
