How We Met

Well, I was 14 when I got him and ,originally, I wanted an App that had color. Moody had foundation bloodlines with lots of color but he was black. So I really didn't want him at first. His mother died when he was 3 months old so he was just a baby when we got him.

When he was 6 months old he got hung under the feed box (not sure how) and ripped all the muscle out of his neck. So he had to have surgery. He was gelded at the age of two and began training at the age of two. We had him professionally trained for 3-4 months. He was really good after that. He would neck rein extremely easy and was really good on voice commands. You didn't have to kick him for anything.

When he was 5 my sister sold him. We went to get him back when he was 13. The woman that had him had starved him and I vowed that day that he would never leave me again.

When he was 14 I showed him in Western Pleasure...

I opened a stable when he was 16 ( boarding, riding lessons, etc...). He was a great lesson horse. My daughter took english lessons on him!

I closed the stable after I had my second daughter. So he was 18 when we moved out in the country. We trail rode him then, with his best best friend Pokey.

Sadly, when he was only 24, his favorite thing to do,running, was one of the worst things he did. He shattered his right rear tibia on Father's Day. We decided to try to find someplace we could take him to fix it and heal it but when I went to check on him that night , his bone was through the skin. So I had to put him down.=( I had him buried in our backyard. Even the guy burying him thought he was a special horse, my friend(who had also took lessons on him) came up to the house fed him peppermints(his favorite treat)right before the vet administered the tranquilizer and everyone was up there either starting to tear up or crying. The guy made sure to take out all the rocks so he wouldn't be uncomfortable before gently placing im in his grave.

Now every time I think of a racehorse that has broken down, not that I have a problem with horse racing, such as: Barbaro, Ruffian, Eight Belles, especially Barbaro, because it looked like a bay version of Moody in the newspaper (same leg and all) I think of that horrible day.=( But I find peace in the fact that my Moody Blue is still here with me resting peacefully beneath the sassafrass tree out back.
