My Horse Profile
About Me
Active within 2 Days
I am from Pearland, TX and I've been a Club Horse member for 4 years, 10 months and 16 days
Nicknames: I have 7 horses: Godiva, Peekaboo, Buttercup, Peach, Princeton, Smooch & Sing. They are all pictured below. Hershey Kiss= dear poppy, was a true "babysitter". Started all my kid riders. Never bucked, ran or scared any rider. RIP Poppy, 5/3/2012.
Age: 12 years old
Gender: Mare
Breed: Thoroughbred
Height: 15.1 HH
Color: Bay, Solid Paint, Chestnut, Pinto
Type of Riding: We do English, jumping and bareback.
My Horse's Achievements: He was used in the security patrol around Bush Intercontinenta- l Airport when we were on high security alert after 911. They asked for volunteers and I used him and Sing both to patrol the perimeter. He did one horse show with a 12 yr old rider in hunter/jumper.
My Horse's Favorite Treat: Apples, carrots, cookies, & pony pops are the usual treats.
My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: He loves to "dribble" his red apple toy that is tied in his stall, with his nose.
Pet Peeves: He does not like rain and will duck his head down and run for cover when it's blowing in his face. He's easily spooked by "big foot" the bull that is pastured next door to our property.
My Horse's motto: "The rider should whisper his request and the horse should SHOUT his response." Jane Savoie "Light hands, Strong legs, Calm mind is what it takes to be a great rider."

How We Met
I rode as a teen, then quit for 25 years. I started up again and began a small riding school part time. I was at the feed store and kept seeing a sale poster for Smooch. The image of his foal picture was stuck in my head! You know how that goes. I soon ended up with him in my barn as a long yearling of 18 months. My intention was to train and sell him. He had such a calm sensible disposition that I began using him as a lesson horse when he was 2..

Hi, left a vote. Well Amber didn't come home yesterday, change of plans. She came home this afternoon! It was very cold and very wet here today. I let her run around the arena for a bit, then took her to her stall with the turnout. As soon as the halter came off, out she went. She must have stayed out in the rain for half an hour. She did finally come in and ate. I took some pics of her home coming today and posted them. She settled in pretty quick! Come visit me, Toby & Amber.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Glad that you got a really nice long workout in with Sing. Susan, I haven't been able to stop laughing yet at what you said to Michael! Somehow, I can just see it all going down! Too funny! So I'm thinking you got the white one! Well it's stormy days here! I did get a nice, really nice ride in on Piage, but just as we went from the indoor into the barn, the first clap of thunder hit and hit hard. Glad we were inside, it made Paige a little on edge! Then the rains came. I left about an hour later for the dentist and drove into sunshine and hot and sticky temps. Of course driving home I could see the black clouds over the mountain on which I live. Sure enough, less than a mile from the house, the heavens opened up and it was like a monsoon! Had to sit in my truck in the driveway for like 15 minutes for it to let up. Have washout gullys down to the barn again. Man the tractor and fix them when it dries up! Love ya, Marion and the blondies. Come visit me, Nuttin But Good. Thanks for 3100 Whiskey & Deacon, R.I.P. WOW, I JUST LEARNED TO TEXT.... GOOD MORNING, We left you all a vote. Now that I had an answer although, not the answer I wanted, I have to admit that I did fall apart, there were lots of tears. Reaction varied at the barn, most were understanding and sympathetic but remember the lady that said I needed to "hit her harder", well she said "I don't know what you're crying about, you just sell her and get something else, it's not like you raised from a baby" I have never believed that animals were disposable, and I promised Sterl a home until the day she died. But, reality set in David said that I could not continue to pay board to go 4x a week to simply pat her, there was the wear and tear on the vehicle and the gas for all the travelling back and forth, for what, I can't ride her. I needed to THINK. bringing her home was not an option, we had no land or barn. I didn't know what to do, YET, but I knew I WAS NOT GETTING RID OF HER. Talk soon, Love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLYCome visit me, Sterl May````June HOTM PLEASE````, Angel Sassy Mac```VOTE STERL MAY HOTM``` & Royal Mes``VOTE STERL MAY HOTM```.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Got a ride in on Paige today. She was very good, and considering that about 30 minutes into our ride and training session, it started to thunder really bad. I stayed with riding till after the third really big blast of rolling thunder, then decided I didn't need to test the footing and see if the landing area was soft or not. Paige never did offer to spook, but I wasn't about to take that chance. I got off and cooled her down doing showmanship work, cause it was pouring outside and I didn't want to get soak-n-wet and get my saddle wet either. It lasted about half an hour. Farrier coming back in a little while to do Indy and Bullseye tonight. He ran out of time the other night, he was late getting here and it was like 9 pm when he finished with Paige. Love ya, Marion and the blondies. Come visit me, Nuttin But Good. Thanks for 3100 Whiskey & Deacon, R.I.P. GOOD MORNING OR IS IT GOOD NIGHT!!! Here is an early morning vote for you, STERL MAY and I appreciate all the wonderful support, thank you. Dr. Cook went to the University Hospital to go over Sterl's case with her Drs, he then came to us to explain the diagnosis in detail. This type of condition is sometimes seem in very high end dressage horses, because they are held in such tight collection for long periods, enormous stress is placed on the spine, it is sometimes caused from something like a fall eg. a horse flips over in cross ties, or an accident in a trailer, that type of thing, also studies have shown that pacing Standardbreds are more susceptible because of the diagonal motion of the legs during pacing, BINGO, STERL IS PACER BRED. Regardless of how it happened the outcome is the same. Sometimes with rest and time the bones will actually fuse, therefore no more rubbing of bone on bone and so no pain. The bottom line was Sterl's riding days were over. Dr. Cook suggested that I give her a year off and try her again, in the meantime, she will learn to accommodate herself, she won't do anything that hurts, I now had a pet....see you tomorrow, Love DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLYCome visit me, Sterl May````June HOTM PLEASE````, Angel Sassy Mac```VOTE STERL MAY HOTM``` & Royal Mes``VOTE STERL MAY HOTM```.

Galloping by with a vote! So, spring shots/teeth work didn't happen on Fri. Our vet got backlogged with surgeries so we had to move it to this Fri (unless he gets backlogged again). After having several weeks of sunny weather sometimes getting in the 80s, the rain has returned with a vengeance. Today, we got about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain and man was it windy and cold! Suppose to get more of the same tomorrow. Come visit me, Katie.

Hi! Voted :) It is ok to say ‘I love you’ before tragedy strikes. Enjoyed my Fancy time, early this morning. We practiced for showmanship and barrels. Then I let her enjoy the pretty greens in the back yard. I could not believe she was being so good after not being ridden for so many weeks. Trigger ate in peace while Fancy was out with me. Then he screamed his head off for Fancy to return. Fancy and Trigger enjoyed some carrots before I left them to their own devices. I can’t wait till tomorrow! Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Got a short ride in today. Had some people stop over to look at my smaller goose neck trailer that I have up for sale. Seems like they were just kicking tires, wanted to give me a ton less than it's worth! No Deal! Mowed two pastures and weed wacked them. Kids were out, then gave them baths it was so warm and humid! I just found out that friends of mine were close to Okalahoma City when they broke down with the horse trailer and had to get repair work done. Otherwise they would have been in the middle of it. Jeff, his daughter and her show horse. God spared them! Thank you Lord! Love ya, Marion and the blondies.Come visit me, Nuttin But Good. Thanks for 3100 Whiskey & Deacon, R.I.P. Hi, left a vote. I posted a couple of pics from yesterday of Amber. She had been in her stall without any turnout for 4 days! I turned her loose in the arena yesterday, and of course she ran around and rolled a lot! I stayed in the arena with her the entire time, just stood in the middle of it. I just let her be a horse, just running around and snorting, rolling, that kind of stuff. She finally relaxed about 20 to 25 minutes in the arena. I then walked up to her, and gave her some love and talked to her. I then walked off, she came with me, no lead rope, just her walking next to me. When I stopped, she stopped. There were two poles set up at the other end of the arena. She didn't go near those poles when she was running around. So, of course, I am going to try to get her down to those poles. So, since she is walking with me, I start heading towards one of those poles. We would walk a little bit, then stop, then walk, then stop, kind of thing. All was going well, we were half way there, when we both could hear the horses outside running! She looked at me, I said "go on, go see what is up", she took three steps to the side and away from me, and then she took off running. She checked it out, and then came back to me. Then I started heading to the pole. We did it! Got her to walk up to the pole, she sniffed it, and then just stood there with me. It was great! I also paid her off yesterday, and she will be coming home tomorrow evening! Can hardly wait! Come visit me, Toby & Amber.

Hi Susan GOOD MORNING ALL, LEFT YOU A VOTE, Thanks for being patient with the story, I don't want to bore you if they are too long. Have you heard the expression "egg on my face"? well, that is exactly how all these Dr's felt as they went over Sterl's xrays, here is the diagnosis "xrays revealed sclerosis, periosteal proliferation, decreased interspinous space and lytic cysts along the 14-18 thoracic vertebrae" to break that down it means that the bones of her spine are rubbing bone on bone and causing her great pain, add a saddle and weight and it it even greater...One of her Dr's said after reading the xrays he could not believe that she let me on her back at all, he said "all I can say is your horse has ONE HELL OF A HEART" I already knew that. In such cases sometimes cortisone is injected into the spaces, so they brought in a Dr. to assess that option, it was determined that there was not enough room to get the needle in, surgery was discussed but not recommended, we were offered an acupuncture treatment and we took it, they said improvement could take up to 2 weeks, if nothing happened it wasn't going to help. It didn't. So after a very long exhausting day, we bundled up my beauty girl and returned to the barn, TO BE CONTINUED, Love DONNA LEE & STERLY GIRLYCome visit me, Sterl May````June HOTM PLEASE````, Angel Sassy Mac```VOTE STERL MAY HOTM``` & Royal Mes``VOTE STERL MAY HOTM```.

Hi Susan GOOD MORNING, please drop by Charlie's page, I posted a picture of his foot, 2 weeks shy of 10 months, lookin' good...We left votes for everyone too, thank you You guys are really good, a couple of you asked about her saddle fit, before we even got Dr. Cook involved, we had a saddle fitter take a look, he was satisfied that we had a good fit, on palpation of her spine she showed no tenderness. So here we are at the Hospital, the referral was made and Dr. Cook had sent a history and asked for xrays. I have to say the day was very long, but incredibly interesting, I was warned ahead of time that this is a teaching Hospital,so this would not be a quick in and out visit. Sterl was assigned Dr's in charge of her case and then there were what seemed like a million students at varying levels all hovering around my girl. Every square inch of her was gone over, and a million questions were asked. How nice to spend a whole day talking about your horse and everyone HAS to listen. They told me they would gather all their info and a report would be sent to Dr. Cook. They did absolutely everything except watch me ride her. When they lounged her, she actually moved pretty good, I think it was adrenaline 'cause this was exciting for her too, in the end her assigned Dr's said they saw NO need to xray her spine. Those of you that know me,even a little know that I am non assertive, but, be proud of me, I became like a Mamma bear with her cubs, I said "do you know Dr. Cook? he sent us here for xrays, do you have any idea how hard it was to get here today? we are not leaving without xrays" So, they took our xrays, she needed some sedation because these needed to be very accurate, we waited until the films were ready, they were brought to a large viewing screen and all the Dr's and students that had been with us all day were gathered for the reading. Then lunged Indy and did some shwomanship work with him. Then the fun job, de-furing Bullseye, he really needs his body clip, but we haven't had warm enough weather to give him a good bath first. I would ruin two, not one pair of clipper blades doing him! Plus with the nights going down into the 40's and the barn dropping down under 60 degrees, I don't want him to get chilled. Rained on and off all day. So then I spent the day in the house with Harley dog! Love ya, Marion and the blondies. Come visit me, Nuttin But Good. Thanks for 3100 Whiskey & Deacon, R.I.P. Hi Tech Image, CONGRATS OUR APRIL HOTM! & MWS Zippn By Indy, Thanks Bella Boo for 14900 Vote.

Not sure how I came up with Kingston! It is "Kingwood". It's north Houston. East of Porter & Humble. Does that area sound fimliar? I know your South of Houston so it is probably a good ways around to that point! ✞ Cliff finished putting up the barbless wire on turn out #3 yesterday. Will hang gate and add hot wire this morning. When I get off work today we will introduce the herd to it! Scaredy pants Deacon will not want to go to the back end of it because there is a tank and it is surrounded by lots of trees and bush! We haven’t fenced it yet. We will fence tank area next fall. Deacon (with his alpha self) knows coyote’s go down there sometimes so he is always Leary and high headed when I ride around that area. I will work with him on that. Have a wonderful day! Sherry ✞ Whiskey, Deacon & Rocket ✞Come visit me, ♥ Whiskey ♥ & ♥ Deacon ♥.

you're up early or late??? GOOD MORNING, LEFT A THANK YOU VOTE, So, let's get right to it. On routine exam all her vitals where good, she, of course appeared healthy, she had regular vacs, wormings and her teeth were good. We drew blood for a complete work up, all neg, with nothing obvious we started the slow process of ruling out, one by one the possibilities. I mean slow because in order to not get confused we needed to give each treatment time to test effects, does that make sense?? Being a Mare, almost 15 and never bred, we wanted to rule out ovary issues first, I was happy and relived when the physical exam and the internal ultrasound was negative, we then went at the simple stuff like corrective shoeing, we tried a course of Regumate and a series of Prostoglandn injection, we tested for neurological issues, we looked at eye issues, double checked teeth and throat, there was no obvious tenderness in her back muscles, however she lounged better than under saddle. Thru all the testing, which took weeks, I still rode her and acted like everything was fine. When Dr. Cook was satisfied that we had ruled out EVERYTHING, he said he needed some very accurate xrays of her spine, he needed us to go to the Equine Hospital in Guelph. He called to make her appointment and I asked Val(our coach) to trailer us up there, and on Jan 15/98 in on of the worst snow storms ever off we went. TO BE CONTINUED. Have a great day, Love Donna Lee & STERLY GIRLYCome visit me, Sterl May````June HOTM PLEASE````, Angel Sassy Mac```VOTE STERL MAY HOTM``` & Royal Mes``VOTE STERL MAY HOTM```.
