About Me

Active within 4 Days

I am from Pearland, TX and I've been a Club Horse member for 6 years, 1 month and 16 days

Nicknames: I have 6 horses: Godiva, Buttercup, Peach, Princeton, Smooch & Sing. They are all pictured below.

Hershey Kiss= dear poppy, was a true "babysitter". Started all my kid riders. Never bucked, ran or scared any rider. RIP Poppy, 5/3/2012.
Peekaboo RIP 12/10/13 my little angel pony.

Age: 20 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed: Thoroughbred

Height: from 10.1HH-15.3HH

Color: Bay, Solid Paint, Chestnut, Pinto

Type of Riding: We do English, jumping and bareback.

My Horse's Achievements: Sing has been a show horse, trail horse, fox hunter and lesson horse. Smooch was used in the security patrol around Bush Intercontinenta- l Airport when we were on high security alert after 911. They asked for volunteers and I used him and Sing both to patrol the perimeter.
Princeton has been a super lesson horse and is always a favorite. Peach used to pull a wagon and has been retrained to ride. Same for Buttercup, who has also won $$ as a barrel racer at our local playday. Godiva and Peek have both been shown in walk/trot division and won championships.

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Apples, carrots, cookies, & pony pops are the usual treats.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Play with the red apple or grazin' toy, lick the himalyan salt lick or pony pops, get sprayed with the hose or play in the water trough, lay in the sun or roll.

Pet Peeves: The scary bull in the next pasture, rain, touching ears, dogs & cats.

My Horse's motto: "The rider should whisper his request and the horse should SHOUT his response."
Jane Savoie

"Light hands,
Strong legs,
Calm mind is what it takes to be a great rider."

How We Met

Sing was bred at Walmac Farm in Lexington, KY. Her sire, High Brite, was a success as a race horse. He won over $1.5 million and became a stud horse. She was sold at Keeneland for $7000 to Randy Preston trainer. She raced 4 times and was out of the money each and every time so he sold her to a friend he had here in the Houston area. She was at an eventing barn here. She was too small for the woman who had intended to buy her. I looked at her and decided to buy her. She has a big heart and is quite brave about trying anything I ask of her..

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well spent the morning unpacking all my work tack and my show tack. But the work tack back in the barn ready to keep Paige tuned up and maybe now start doing some serious riding on Indy again. Show saddle and good 100X hats are in the house to hold their shape! LOL! Now have to wash all my good showmanship outfits by hand and clean the crystals, was told how to do it and put the full sparkle back in them. Had my truck down to the shop, needed rear brake pads and rotors ground. All done and got a deal price, saved over $80, so happy about that. But did price a new truck, we'll see, maybe soon! Kids all enjoyed the afternoon out on grass again. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

HI
Wow, The last time I was on to blog was in June! Boy have I been busy. Let's see if I can remember everything that's been going on lately.

1st: I've added several new categories for my supervisor duties! I'm now overseeing all of the horse breeds and pasture management areas. I'm going to add all of the Equestrian sports cat's as well.

2nd: I'm hunting a new paying job as my supervisory role is volunteer and I'm not paid for that job. I'm applying at some banks and credit unions near my house. If I have no luck with those places then there are some secretarial positions and paralegal positions open. I would be looking for V.A work, but right now they are only hiring techs and I do not have my boards as of yet.

3rd: I'm going to head back to college to get my Veterinarian Technicians degree and boards. I'm also looking at getting a degree in equine nutrition, might add a basic farriers class to that, and maybe a class for saddle fitting and business management. Not 100% sure what all I want to do yet or how much all of this will cost, but I can take it one step at a time.

4th: My Mema (age 84..Shhh, don't tell her I told you her age. ;D ) Slipped and injured her knee and might have to have it replaced. Nobody is happy about this as see wants to go back to working, she hates being at home with nothing to do.

5th: I completely threw my back out three different times in the past month and a half and have been utterly miserable. I haven't been able to ride at all, I can barely walk, but I am getting better slowly.

6th:I had Shawn's youngest son James for four weeks during the summer. Shawn had to work and I was home anyways with my bad back, so I kept him. It was just like being a nanny again, except he didn't go home at night, LOL. (There was no escape! No escape I tell you! XD)

7th:We lost one of old ferals. Snippy passed away a few weeks ago, leaving us with one much younger cat to care for. I miss Snippy, he was a good old guy.

8th: I'm incredibly tan, I'm typically so pale and pasty white that you could call me translucent! Not any more, LOL. The perks of living in a coastal town I guess, even an equestrians legs will get tanned down here, LOL.

9th: Although I am still on HC, I am now on Horseforum.com and chronicle of the horse forum daily as it's more interactive and I enjoy helping out and answering questions. If any of y'all are on there, feel free to look me up and send a friend request. I'm known as Horseychick87 on both forums. :)

I hope everyone is doing great and hope to hear from you soon. Lots of hugs, love and votes.
~Shannon

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. WOW that was really of them to help with their truck and then pick up half the bill! Very nice people. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep and start my clean up to put the trailer up for the winter. It's great having Paige home again, love seeing that pretty face when I walk in the barn. She really enjoyed her time out in the pasture today. What a big show!!! OMG, we were in some deep classes, packed with trainers and super good amateurs. Most of my classes and Marissa's and Laurel's one class were about an average of 13 to 19 horses in each class. And top of the line show horses! We pinned for the most part, but did get the gate a few times. It was tough competition, I'm not kidding. Like being at the Congress almost! But we came home with a lot of state points to give me good year end money at least. Paige also showed Friday in the Green Trail and in the Senior Trail. Placed under all three judges in both classes, that we were very happy about. So all in all, I'm very happy with how this complete show season has gone with my new trainer! Not letting her go! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Susan
Yesterday was a better breathing day for my Sterly Girly. She has had this issue forever, actually she got a lung virus as a two year old when she raced. It was bad enough to end her racing career, she was pretty good, from a very good bloodline. But as Dr. Cook said it was never going to be a problem for what I wanted her to do. As a younger girl, she was a bit "weazy", but as a "old girl" it is down right difficult to breath, as always, she never complains. I swear if all horses were like her, everyone would have a horse. Susan, I'm saying a special prayer for you and your family....The weather is nice, The rain here has dried up. Bugs are crazy, though. Put ant bait around the outside of Sadie's corral and put her nosy, into everything butt, back in. She's a busy one. She got into the other shed and drug out the containers Austin put in there. He took them out of the tack shed to make room to store hay. She watches everything and waits for a chance to plunder. Lots of love and a vote.

FANCY'S PERCEPTIONS:
"Horses first, The rest Later!"

Fancy leaves a vote for you this morning.

Fatima has gone to a home where she will be working with teenagers that are learning to ride. The lady spent an evening with us to evaluate Fatima and this lady saw potential in Fatima. The next day, the lady came back for Fatima. Fatima did not want to go. I called when I thought they arrived home to check on her and Fatima was fine.
I did not have the same feelings of betrayal with Fatima as I felt when I watched Trigger leave. I felt happy Fatima would be getting some attention. I still miss Trigger but I am happy he is really loved by the small children. I have an invitation to visit him. I think I want to go one day during his lessons. I would love to see him with the children.

Have a safe and blessed weekend.

Good morning my friends, love the vacation pic, all is well here in hot, humid Ontario. This is pretty much the worst couple of weeks of the summer, it is OK for me, but poor Sterly Girly has such a hard time breathing, inside with her fan and I actually gave her a couple pumps of Ventipulimin yesterday. Because of the flooding north of us, the river, close to my house, flooded, Tuesday night. I didn't see the water until I accidentally drove through it. Car's been fine until I drove to work, Friday. After I parked the car and went in, the car caught fire and is totalled. Devastated, heartbroken, but okay. A couple of people think it may have been a short in the wiring. Thank God that Austin was able to pick me up. Car's still in the parking lot at work. Rick won't get home until Wednesday. He's on vacation. Sending love as always and a vote. p.s. No word on the horses that were washed away in the flood.

Cisco's pastern looked good this AM when I changed the bandage. Worked Nugget a bit, applied fly stuff to all 3, then used the weight tape, all 3 are losing weight, finally. Then went on line and ordered body clippers for Nugget, more Freedom 45 (it's on sale) and ordered the Equi-Spirit ball I've been promising Cisco ever since I found out he misses his ball - this one is supposed to LAST. We've had a lot of rain and flooding here in Arizona. We're okay here, but some towns, north of Phoenix, weren't so lucky. New River, Arizona, was hit so hard, pets and horses were washed away. I saw, on the news, that 2 of the horses drowned and women on horseback were searching for the other 2. I haven't heard if they were found, yet. So heartbreaking. Sadie's fine. We've had rain, hard Thursday morning, but no flooding at my house. Sadie's out of her corral, because it's slippery and mucky. To know Sadie, is to know she's happy. She was at the backdoor begging for carrots. Of course, she got some. Hope you're all doing well. Leaving love and a vote.

Here's a vote from Buddy! Yet again, sorry we haven't been on in about a week, it seems the only time that we have to get on is when I have my days off! I've added some new pictures of Buddy, and one of his tail. I love the colours in it, and I've been putting MTG in it lately to try and get it to grow since he has such a sucky tail (to put it nicely.)

I haven't ridden him in his normal saddle pad yet, but I'm going to do that tomorrow and see how he does. The barn owner has her last day of her kids summer camp tomorrow so hopefully I can manage to ride outside while all the kids are riding inside or are on lunch, just in case Buddy pulls some crazy stunt! If he his still a bit off I am going to try and take the saddle off and just ride him bareback. If that doesn'e help him then I will have to call Dr. Herbers when I get back from my vacation to get his teeth checked and floated. I know I need to get them done sooner rather than later as when I asked my aunty if they had ever been done she said they had not as they had always been good when she had checked them. And of course if having his teeth doesnt help then I will move on to try a chiropractor, as one of the other boarders at the barn plans on having one come out and said that if need be she will let them know there may be another horse that needs to be done. Hopefully it doesnt come to that!

I leave for my vacation on Sunday morning, but I should still be able to make it on to vote every few days at least! I'm bringing my laptop as I never really leave home for an extended period of time without it. I may be blogging later during that time tho. As much as I am excited to go, I am not at all ready to pack to go. I'm sure I'll forget something that I want to bring. As long as I remember to bring my saddle!

I hope everyone is doing well and the weather has cooled down and you can all enjoy some not so hot horsey time! I also hope the bugs are not as bad for you as they are for me currently! And here's hoping my ride goes well tomorrow!

-Buddy & Jasmine

Come visit me, Buddy *Congrats Sadie, August HOTM!*.

Everet Shaw, who rode his share of great steer roping horses, told Hyde
that Blue was the best horse at Cheyenne that year. Hyde and Del both felt
that Blue started out of the box quicker and could catch cattle easier than
