How We Met

Sing was bred at Walmac Farm in Lexington, KY. Her sire, High Brite, was a success as a race horse. He won over $1.5 million and became a stud horse. She was sold at Keeneland for $7000 to Randy Preston trainer. She raced 4 times and was out of the money each and every time so he sold her to a friend he had here in the Houston area. She was at an eventing barn here. She was too small for the woman who had intended to buy her. I looked at her and decided to buy her. She has a big heart and is quite brave about trying anything I ask of her..

Hope your weekend was great for everyone. Going to rain again today, so have to hurry and pick up my Mom grass clippings for bedding. Once it gets wet, it will mold. I guess, I recyle everything. Guineas and pheasant hatched out...not too good of a rate on the guineas. 15 out 36 eggs, but these were the first of the season, most were being lain when there was snow on the ground.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well we got the rains overnight, I guess pretty hard or at least a lot of it and for a while. As the rain gauge had 1 1/4 inches in it. But then the sun came out all day long, till about an hour ago! Now it's raining again. And of course possible thunderstorms! Well I finished body clipping Bullseye today. Did work the horses, as I had a BBQ to go to. But didn't stay long, only a couple of hours. Needed to get home and mow the lawn! You know, a farm is an endless project! Glad I did come home and get it done. Everyone got a hay lunch and fresh water at 3 pm when I got home. It was to hot and humid to turn them out, about 88 with lots of humidity. Darn green heads were even biting me when I was mowing! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Happy that you got one full lap around the arena without any bucking from Buttercup. Progress! Hot again, but nothing like yesterday. High was 87 and not as humid with no thunder thank goodness! I did lunge and ride Paige this morning, after all, had to celebrate our 4th year anniversary with a nice ride. It was before noon, so the temps were still in the low 80's. And with all the doors open in the indoor and the cross breeze, it was okay. Then lunged Indy, as no one was going out in the sun to bleach their show coats and also running from the bugs! Bullseye is not 1/3 body clipped, I wore a lot of 2 inch long hair! Then I mowed the two smaller pastures in front and on side of the barn. Possibility of rains on Monday. So needed to do some mowing today. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Love the framing around the profile picture! Well another hot one! I took a picture of the truck screen dash at 12:20 something today and it was 96 degrees downtown! I had to run to the post office and Tractor Supply, almost melted! Horses all got baths today! And Bullseye too of course. Then decided to see what Honey thought about the Magic Horse Wand. She just stood like a statue for her bath, used warm water anyhow. She was so good, this dog has had someone in her puppy life that taught her good and I really hope they are not missing her! Cause I'm not giving her back! Another thunderstorm rolled by just north of us. No rain here, but you could hear the thunder, so needless to say, Honey was a wreck. Got in the house, put her shirt on her and she calmed down and laid on the floor next to my chair. Good ThunderShirt! Good Honey! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

My old farrier always told me to geld the horses in the fly season, because the flys keep them moving. Just not when it was either cold or rainy....that is what kept going threw my mind, when I called to cancel. I also keep SMZ on hand, which is an old med, long before penicillin came out. Once when I got a filly off the meat truck, I had her quarantine, but somehow, my filly got near her, and of course touched noses, so I had two now to keep away from everyone else. I used SMZ's and penicillin together at the first sign of strangles, neither of them came down with it. Rainy and hot here too, but not unbearable. Hope you have a nice long weekend.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well it was even more humid today! And a late afternoon thunderstorm too! Poor Honey was besides herself till I could get up to the house and put her ThunderShirt on her. She did calm down, but was even calmer when she could be next to me. Just lunged Paige and Indy. Too hot and humid to ride. Indy's abscess seems to be dried out and he's never taken a lame step. So that I'm really happy about. Did get all around the outdoor arena mowed and weed whacked, it looks nice and neat. Now to do more de-rocking and weeding of it. A load or two of sand, but that is financially on hold for sometime unfortunately. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Monitoring Scruffy. He hates the cone. Getting harder to trick him into taking his medication. Guess he's figured out it's hidden in his food. Sadie got out. Austin accidentally left the gate open. Had to go to a neighbor's, in the dark, to get her. She went to visit their horse. We got her home, safely. She was such a butt. She and the other horse whinnied back and forth. It was sad. They both are alone. I think Sadie's missing Scruffy now that he's staying inside. She's good, though, bad but good. Lol. Leaving more love and a vote.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Today is Indy's Birthday! 12 years old! Hard to believe I've had him 8 years already. Love that boy! So it's getting hot and humid! Yesterday was 86 and today was 88 with heavy humidity! YUK! Due to the farrier coming and not know his time for sure, early afternoon he said. I only lunged Paige, and just as I started he text and said he'd be here in like 20 minutes. So at least she got to stretch her legs. Paige got a reset all around. Indy has an abscess on his R/F just in front of the point of the frog. But never shown any lameness at all. He cut it out and it's still draining a little. He probably hit a rock in his pasture. I went out this afternoon and filled a bucket up with about 2 dozens offenders! LOL! Tomorrow ever hotter and major chance of thunderstorms! Honey is not going to be happy! ThunderShirt time for her. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

My goodness. I need to make it on HC more often. Scruffy's doing better. I took him out, last night, to potty. Took the cone off and was surprised to see how much better he did without it. He walked some and wagged his tail. If I would live by his example, find time to wag my tail during rough spells, I'd be a better person. Animals are inspirational. Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well all went well with my ride on Paige. She was fine when I lunged her. So I set out one ground pole and we've started with walking, jogging, trotting and even loping over it. Did a couple of horsemanship patterns just to break things up. Got them out this afternoon in their own pastures, everyone was as quiet as a church mouse! LOL! Mowed all around the indoor, nice and neat now, for about a week or less! LOL! Had Honey do a walk to the barn from the house off leash! She was out in front of me a few times, but not more than 6 or 7 feet and would stop when told too! I'm really proud of the progress we're making! Farrier in the morning. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Got a nice ride in on Paige today. She felt much softer after her full adjustment and acupuncture. So we never got much rain over night at all. And nothing today. So I couldn't use their regular pastures after just mowing yesterday! I like to keep them out for a day or two. So they got the front and the side pastures, oh boy, both went nuts! Paige got a case of the crazies! Hope the heck she didn't screw herself up! I'll know tomorrow when I go to work her! Honey is doing better and I'm massaging where Dr. Carole told me too. And today we hung out for a while in the backyard together, she was just curled up on my knee. So I let her off the tie rope to walk to the garage and go up stairs with me. Well we got about 15 feet and she said left turn, and took off running to the barn. I yelled Honey No and she stopped. I said Honey Come and she ran right to me and sat down! Was so pleased with her. She's really working out to be a good life saver for me and me for her! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Our dog, Scruffy, was attacked, late Sunday night, by one of the neighbors' dog. Possibly a pit mix. Scruffy got chewed up pretty bad. He's wearing the 'lampshade', has staples and is sedated. Can't get him to eat, drink or take his medication. The vet said he's not walking because of, either the surgery or the sedative shot they gave him. He ate some grilled chicken before we left for the vet. Hoping his appetite is back Tuesday. He's got a long way to go to heal. He's so sociable. He goes over to the egg ranch and shares the employees' lunches. He probably likes to hang out with the prisoners that work there, too. He gets out by climbing the fence, literally. or jumping it. I can't handle chaining him. Too heartbreaking. For now, he's in the house, and hopefully, after he heals, too. Been afraid he'd get ran over. The dog has disappeared. I haven't seen him since he attacked Scruffy. So aggressive. I'm taking care of the bill. He was out which makes it my responsibility. Don't think the neighbor has any money, anyway. His single wide is set up in a way that breaks permit laws, including being a single wide. Going to hush and leave lots of love and a vote.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Very, very busy day! Got more horse laundry done, almost done with all that now! Then got Hay to the barn. Paige lunged and just finished doing my showmanship practice when Dr. Carole got here to do Paige's adjustment. Paige is doing very well, a little residual stiffness and tightness in that area, but Carole said that the more she works a little harder now, it'll come back to normal. Then I had Dr. Carole look at Honey. Honey's backbone sticks up for about 7 vertebrae in the middle and she moves funny sometimes on the right hind. Sure enough, she was out in both places. Carole thinks she either got kicked around or hit by a car possibly when she was a street dog! Poor baby. She'll be okay she believes. Showed me the area's to massage and how to do it. Then the kids got out for their pasture time. I mowed the lawn and then did their two pastures! Had to get it done, possible next 5 days are calling for rain! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

HI Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well overcast after last nights rain. But at least it was warmer (68) today. OMG, what a ride today on Paige! She's still riding in the snaffle so I can really work with bending and flexing. But we were practice smaller circles, half arena size and I just decided to go from right lead lope to left lead across the center, asked for a change and got the most awesome flying change! Her new Sleezy Sleepwear Slinky fits her great! But Indy had to try it on and post on FB! Check it out! Indy got lunged. Then everyone got turnout time today. Grass was dry and pastures weren't slippery at all. While they were out, I washed Beast off. It needed it! So all in all, good day for sure, even without the sun! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

I nearly came home with a kitten or two. Told the guy if he could not find homes for them, I would take them. Some chicks I liked, but they were banty size, and it takes the same amount of feed to feed the banty hens, as a big one. But I had a good time, that's what is important. Took one of my helmets, to give to one of the 4-Her, since this was a 4-H fund raiser.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well took only 4 top items with me to sell, came home with 6! You do the math! LOL! Didn't sell mine, and brought a 30 ft nylon lunge line in royal blue, Honey's new turnout line for $2. And Paige got a slinky full sheet in hot pink for $10. You'll see it on FB this week! So my entire day was not that good! But did get to hang out with some great friends and have a good lunch with them. Got home and gave a late hay lunch to the kids. Not going back to the sale Sunday. Staying home and get Paige lunged and ridden, and Indy lunged. Bullseye on free lunge time. Plus it's supposed to rain, it's raining a little right now. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well didn't get any riding time in today. Had my yearly physical down at the Union Medical Center. It's a 75 minute drive each way and takes about 90 minutes or more for all the tests. Then had to stop and fill a couple of scripts and get my Prevnar 13 Pneumonia shot there also. Cheaper that way than at the center, go figure! Got home and just had enough time before turnout to lunge Paige only. Then they had their 90 minutes of grass again. Then I dragged the indoor and mowed the front pasture. By then it was like 5:30 and time to relax! LOL! Tomorrow I'm bringing some things to the tack sale at Marissa's barn, hope I can sell something! So it'll be another day of no riding. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well another busy day! Run to Wally World grocery shopping, much needed! Got home and got Paige tacked up and started to lunge her, she was up! So she got to do extra long trotting to wear off the energy! Then I got brave, since she worked up a good sweat, I figured she was tired. She was, so we did a lot more bending and flexing at the walk, then onto the jog/trot. She was really riding nice. So I did a 360 and pushed her off into a right lead lope, awesome, then after a couple of large circles, did a one stride simple change onto the left lead. She's really coming together well. Finished her up and went and got Indy, well he too was up! Don't know what or why, he's never crazy, but he was full of himself. So he hit the lunge line too! Didn't want him free lungeing and being an idiot! After that I mowed the baby pasture behind the barn. Then turned them out for pasture time, up to 90 minutes now! They're in heaven! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a little warmer this morning thank goodness. About 45 when I fed. Got up to about 65, so it was kinda nice but overcast. Took two wheel barrels of hay (3) in each trip to barn. Dragged the indoor. Played with Honey, she's getting very good at come, sit stay and repeat all over. Of course the treats are good too she says. Then saddled and lunged Paige, had my spurs on today, so that meant serious work out. Lot's of bending and flexing and then into the jog, up to the trot and even pushed into the extended trot that we need for Ranch Riding. 360's and backups, and side passes both ways! Like she never had 10 weeks off! Lunged Indy, he was full of himself, so he stayed on the line! Then afterwards, everyone went out for 75 minutes of pasture time! They of course loved that! Lawn got mowed too! Productive day! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Another very busy day. Like they say, make hay while the sunshines! Took hay to the barn and then took Honey to the indoor to work on sit, stay and come. Sometimes she's on the money, others she's like yeah whatever! LOL! Then got the big tractor and dragged the indoor. Weed whacked around the rest of the indoor. Worked Paige under saddle again, very lazy today! LOL! Took a rest finally! Turned them out in their pastures for a while. When they came in, I weed whacked their pastures all around the fence line and then mowed those two pastures. So now with the rains moving in tomorrow and the next day, that'll be their two days off the fresh mowed pastures. Just have the baby pasture and half of the area around the indoor to mow, whenever! My Galaxy S-Health said 11.76 miles today and 966 calories burned. Melt off some more of that waistline! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well it was a very busy working day for me! One more to go tomorrow and I'll kinda be caught up with mowing, just in time for rain Friday and Saturday! Weed whacked around the two pastures and behind the indoor. Then had to mow without the baggers, then let it dry and go over it all again with the baggers. Three hours on the project! Today was a saddle and lunge day for Paige, and she was a super star! Guess it was either the warmer weather, (76) or she remembered yesterday and didn't want the lip chain again. Indy free lunged. Then they all went out for pasture time in the two pastures I'll mow on Thursday. Seems that Paige picked up a passenger, found a deer tick on her nose tonight at feeding time. Only could have been there for a few hours. She'll be safe. That's why I like to keep the pastures mowed and short! Extra fly/tick repellant tomorrow for them. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Here I thought our house would be warm tonight, but maybe not. Weather is miserable outside. Still rainy and cold. Moved one batch of chicks to the calf hutch, moved the bigger ones to the little room in the chicken coop, so soon they will be going outside. Making room in the back of the shed so ponies can have a pen on that side, has large siding door, and then their pen Mistic will get because it has a large pen outside under the lento where when she foals, I can put them to keep them safe. May 23 is due date.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well I took Honey with me, she just loves to go in the truck. They loved her at the Ziebart Place. Then a few stops on the way home. So we were like 5 hours all total, she was great! So that meant that miss Paige was like 3 hours late on being worked, and it was by then lunch time for them. Well she wasn't happy going to work and acted up big time! So rather than risk her hurting herself, chain became a lip chain, she settled down to a good extended trot for like 10 minutes straight, that took the sass out of her! Then on the wall for half an hour. Then I turned everyone out in their pastures for grass. They were very happy to have grass again. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

A "late" Happy Mother's Day to you, even if you are only the mother of 4 legged ones.
Busy weekend....hatched out 42 out of 48 eggs, for me that is great. Sold 8 guinea hens on Saturday and 15 chicks, but out poor outdoor stove is taking all that money to fit it. Now the best new, Pickles finally progress to a point that he can have his halter OFF. Does not run away, and no long afraid of hand movements....sometimes, he moves his head, but not his feet. Been following me around, like I am his best friend. Negative side of no halter, is....I can not tell Pickles and Clippers apart(from just their heads), without looking at their feet. :)

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Happy Mother's Day to all, whether it be 2 legged or the best kind 4 legged! Well it was raining at am feeding, cleared out by 9 am with winds like OMG, but the sun came out! Didn't remember what that orange thing in the sky was! LOL! So it was a lot of fun trying to lunge them, even in the indoor. Large doors were snugged as tight as I could get them and they were still making noise. So Paige got a few good crow hops and bucks in, but she's doing well. Indy I kept on the lunge line and even he wasn't happy about the winds! And when Indy acts up, you know it's bad! Bullseye went out this afternoon in the baby pasture, the others stayed in with hay for late lunch. Didn't need either of them running and slipping on the wet grass and muddy pastures. Did manage to mow the entire lawn! YAY! Now to start working on mowing pastures and the weeds in places are 10 inches high! In two weeks, they grow rather well! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Well, misty this morning, then it stopped and was just overcast. Couldn't mow at all, grass stayed wet all day. But at least I got my walk in up the block and back. Got Paige saddled and lunged again, I can't wait to get on her. Free lunged Indy, he's too funny! And Bullseye was full of himself and running like a nut in the indoor! So at least they all got a good run in. Plus I took Honey down there too, she can book! Very fast, my last two were pleasure lopers for labs, this girl is a race horse, I mean dog! LOL! Well possible sunshine tomorrow, we'll wait and see about that! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Hubby was gone yesterday, drove with a friend to the VA in Minneapolis, so I never had even 1 dirty dish to wash until he got home. Got so much work done. Emptied, (again 3rd time) rain water out of the sunk in bath tub, that is used for the summer fish pond, used water to give to all the newly planted trees, so some of the water carrying was a bit of a hike. After filling the horse tanks, pulled the hose over to the fish pond and filled it, of course first had to clean it, because of all the leaves and sticks that fall in. Went and caught all 7 little gold fish, by hand, and put them in. I try to make it as natural as possible. With rocks and later plants....the rocks are so "if" some little animal falls in, at least it can climb out on the rocks. Put turtles back in the pen, and added more rocks so it is easier for them to crawl out, that plastic does not give them any traction. Dragged the hose over and made muddle puddles for the pigs, then watered all the tomatoes plants, all 22 of them. Still have more to put out, but they are still to small. I carry them outside to set in the sun, and then back in for the night. Baby chicks got to go out in the sunshine in the outdoor pen, but sure were hard to round up to go back inside at 6, All the tomatoe plants, have to be uncovered in the morning, then recovered when it started getting hot, yep, it really got hot yesterday, up to 83 at one time. We go from 30 to 89+ in one day. Winter jacket to T-shirt. Cleaned out white guinea pen, brushed ponies, worked on picking up Pickles feet....he was very naughty when farrier was here...picked up his feet and his whole bod went with. But Clippers did the same thing, and his feet were picked up hundreds of time. Moved saddles to the shop so I could clean them later, took the huge plastic that covered them, out into the ponies pen, and used feed tanks and rocks,to hold down corners and then put its of feed on the plastic so the ponies could learn to walk on the plastic. Sure enough, girls are braver than boys. Paisley, and Mistic just walked right out, Pickles and Clippers had to check it out somewhat, before they went for treats. I brought the two huge balls out for them to play with, they like to follow them as they roll. Pickles and Paisley had them in their pen all winter. Later when it was dark, I went to lock chickens in, and all 3 of the younger ponies were laying down, so I sat between them, and rubbed them. Pickles just laid out flat and I got to rub his tummy, first time he did that. Usually he wants to get up, but tonight he felt comfortable just laying there. Did I clean house, well I did wash one load of clothes and hung them outside. That counts, somewhat, for housework, right!!
