Thoroughbred from Pearland, TX

Sing & Cross Creek Horses

About Me

Active within 1 Day

I am from Pearland, TX and I've been a Club Horse member for 6 years and 2 days

Nicknames: I have 6 horses: Godiva, Buttercup, Peach, Princeton, Smooch & Sing. They are all pictured below.

Hershey Kiss= dear poppy, was a true "babysitter". Started all my kid riders. Never bucked, ran or scared any rider. RIP Poppy, 5/3/2012.
Peekaboo RIP 12/10/13 my little angel pony.

Age: 20 years old

Gender: Mare

Breed: Thoroughbred

Height: from 10.1HH-15.3HH

Color: Bay, Solid Paint, Chestnut, Pinto

Type of Riding: We do English, jumping and bareback.

My Horse's Achievements: Sing has been a show horse, trail horse, fox hunter and lesson horse. Smooch was used in the security patrol around Bush Intercontinenta- l Airport when we were on high security alert after 911. They asked for volunteers and I used him and Sing both to patrol the perimeter.
Princeton has been a super lesson horse and is always a favorite. Peach used to pull a wagon and has been retrained to ride. Same for Buttercup, who has also won $$ as a barrel racer at our local playday. Godiva and Peek have both been shown in walk/trot division and won championships.

My Horse's Favorite Treat: Apples, carrots, cookies, & pony pops are the usual treats.

My Horse's Favorite Things To Do: Play with the red apple or grazin' toy, lick the himalyan salt lick or pony pops, get sprayed with the hose or play in the water trough, lay in the sun or roll.

Pet Peeves: The scary bull in the next pasture, rain, touching ears, dogs & cats.

My Horse's motto: "The rider should whisper his request and the horse should SHOUT his response."
Jane Savoie

"Light hands,
Strong legs,
Calm mind is what it takes to be a great rider."

How We Met

Sing was bred at Walmac Farm in Lexington, KY. Her sire, High Brite, was a success as a race horse. He won over $1.5 million and became a stud horse. She was sold at Keeneland for $7000 to Randy Preston trainer. She raced 4 times and was out of the money each and every time so he sold her to a friend he had here in the Houston area. She was at an eventing barn here. She was too small for the woman who had intended to buy her. I looked at her and decided to buy her. She has a big heart and is quite brave about trying anything I ask of her..

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Hope that your lesson rider is okay after being dumped twice! Bad pony! You be careful to please! So where are you going on the big trip???? Do tell. Well it was an interesting day for sure! Decided not to ride, since my time was limited due to having to go to the baby shower. So knowing that storms are moving in for the next few days, I decided to finish mowing pastures 3 and 4 and clean up. Get in the house, take a shower and put on nice clean jeans and a dress shirt. Leave for the baby shower, which is only 4 miles down, yes down off the mountain at the VFW Hall. And it was changed to inside due to pending weather. As I go to slow down and pull in the driveway, mind you doing the speed limit of 45 MPH, apply my brakes, hold for 1 second and the peddle goes to the floor and the truck ain't stopping! Holy Bat Mobile, stopped at couple of hundred feet later, everyone comes running over, what happened? Darned if I know! Eileen says, uh oh, leaking fluid back here, yep, blew the rear brake line on the drivers side! So drove it home, Kendra who feeds Donk while I'm away follows me home and brings me back. Go to reach for my cell phone, it's not in my holster! Geez, what else could go wrong. Well another friend Phyllis drives me home and it fell out of my holster and was laying by my truck. Good thing we went back for it, cause it would have been rain damaged! Knew I shouldn't have gone to that darn baby shower! Have to get the truck to Fords tomorrow morning, some how and get those brakes fixed! But the horses are fine and that's all that matters, feel bad they never got out today. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

We laugh and say there's some guy named Terry who slathers on the sunscreen, goes out onto a hill, and says "it 'feels like' 110, no wait, 109, degrees" and that's what the weather channel posts. Terry's "feels like" temp. Feels over 100 here too. Pant pant. Obviously the heat doesn't slow Buttercup down too much. Have a good Sunday.

Sorry to hear Buttercup acted up. Could be a sore back, could be anything. Glad no one got hurt. Yes, the bridge arched up, maybe a foot and half high at the center. Just so happy that the second time we tried, he went right over with no problem. All in all, a very good experience. Cheryl & Cisco

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Yes Susan, have a younger sister, like about 7 years younger. She's the crazy one on the fast horses in the family. I like the slow merry go round ones! The faster and higher she can jump, the happier she is, and still till this day! Sunny but did it get humid! Got my ride in on Paige, then gave her a good cool hosing off. We worked on some new trail stuff, really hoping to show Green Trail in three weeks. Hosed off Indy too! Mowed the lawn and two pastures! I have a darn baby shower to go to tomorrow, so I won't be able to keep up on the mowing, had to work twice as hard today. Not into sitting around talking babies, NOT my thing! It is outdoors and supposed to rain, might be my way out! Now if it well a barn shower for a foal, I'd be up for it! LOL! then I can get all awh and googlie. LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Should have read your post before I left...
Very proud of my boy. He did so well his first time out. He popped in a pretty big buck just before we started, made me nervous at the first 2 obstacles, which made him fidgety. I think we might have placed if he had gone over the bridge (it was a hogshead type bridge and he had never seen anything like that). I went back and tried it a second time, and he went over perfectly. Made out like a bandit at the raffle, won twice, probably close to $50 worth, including a huge bag of Apple flavored horse treats which Cisco loves. Cheryl & Cisco

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Today was sunny and hot, got humid out too! But it was a different kind of lovely day for me! I got to visit with my sister! I haven't seen her in a year and she's up from NC. We got together with two other gals from the old stables we all rode at back in the early 70's. It was great! Tami and Sandy aren't really riding anymore. But sis, Kathy is still into Eventing and driving their pony around too. Had a great time! Got home with enough time left to turn the kids out for some pasture. Paige's fly sheet came and it fits her good! Forgot to take a picture, darn! Tomorrow. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Here's a vote from Buddy! We didn't make it on the day that we said we would as the internet connection out here has been really crappy lately. I think it's due to the weather being really weird, but it could also be that the office lady in the barn is turning off the router when she leaves for the day. Hopefully it stays working!

The news I wanted to share with you guys is that Chloe, one of the mares in the barn had her baby the other morning! His name is Bentley and he is oh so cute! I will post a picture of him on Buddy's page for a few days. Annie, the other pregnant mare is due on the 18th, but looks like she's ready to pop at any moment. There's a show starting tomorrow, the first show in over a month, and one next weekend as well. Then we have a break and on the August long weekend it's the Jump for Hope show! One of the biggest shows at the barn.

Buddy has decided he doesn't want a mane anymore and has been pulling it out slowly while in his pen trying to eat the grass on the other side, so Margaret said that she will "clean" it up for me with the clippers when she has time. It will be interesting to see how Buddy reacts to the clippers as he's never seen them before. But he will look a lot better with no mane then with a few scraggly pieces here and there. I'm just going to get her to leave his little "tuff" at the bottom of his neck so I have something to hold onto when I ride him if he decides to be a goober. I gave Buddy a good grooming last night and made him all nice and shiny so he could go out and get all muddy again today. He's still doing good with picking out his feet, although as usual he doesn't like to stand still after about 15 seconds and tries to move. He's starting to get the cue of picking up his foot when I say foot and squeeze his leg, so that's good!

My sister was here last week with Brylee my niece, I was so excited to see them. Their 2 days trip turned into a 5 day trip, and they are on their way back to Edmonton today for a week so I get to see a lot more of them! I'm so excited yet again, but I know it will mean I will be tired for work a lot in the next week!

I'm hoping I can get on more often as I miss being able to post and see what you guys are all up to every day. My trip up to the ranch is still on for the end of August so I most likely will be phone voting/blogging for the most part during those 2 weeks.

Riding this weekend? If so have a wonderful time and be safe.

We had another family look at Trigger yesterday. Then one adult person says, 'well he is not big enough for me' Then I ask "I thought he was for your children?" They tell me the children are in their family and will visit. So we still have Trigger. LOL.
I did sell my cart yesterday. The man used it yesterday evening. And he was very happy with it!

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Thanks again for the congrats on our World Show Qualify. Another sunny day to start and we got lucky last night and never got the storms! Got to ride inside again today, fans going and just lovely! Worked on Horsemanship patterns and doing both a one stride simple change and also threw in a couple of flying changes for the heck of it. She's really having fun, I think this mare loves all the different stuff we're putting her into! Then they all got time out in the pastures. Of course after I bring them in, Paige's new Fly Sheet came from Smart Pac! Have to try it on her, returnable if not and they pay the freight! Then get her the right size. Hand mowed behind the indoor and dragged the outdoor again and did the indoor too! Seems dragging the indoor is also helping to dry it out, it's just about 100% useable now. Love ya, Marion and the blondes.

Fancy and Fatima seem to be friends now. I do notice Fancy & Trigger stay together more. Fatima spends more time eating hay.

Yes, Trigger is for sale because Cowboy wants to ride dirt bikes and 4 wheelers now. I think Trigger would be happy with another child to love him. I have a funny feeling, I might not let Trigger go. (Can't seem to find just the right home for him)
That is a photo of my horse cart on Fancy's page. It has been in the shed since I got it. I have never used it, so I decided to sell it. Seeing it every day, NOW, on the car porch makes me want to test it out.
Last question was regarding me not being able to ride yet. I seem to have acquired a concussion June 7. I am not supposed to ride or do anything that could result in another bump to my head until at least 5 days being symptom free. Not there yet ")

Scruffy always barks at Sadie, wanting her to play, when I let her out of her corral. Sadie bolted out of her corral, Wednesday, head down and chased him away. So funny. Poor dog. He ran to his doghouse. She got to enjoy freedom until she got into the shed, again, and pulled things out, making a mess. Trying to figure out how to make the shed Sadie proof. It's a rubbermaid and she pulls the doors off. Too smart. Lol. Love and a vote.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. Another storm moved through again last night, power out and dish TV this time. Very heavy rain for only 30 minutes, but it was like 1 inch in the rain gauge. Indoor was fine this morning. Got my first ride in on Paige in almost a week thanks to the weather and flooding of my indoor and her pulling a shoe. She was awesome! Had so much lift and suspension to her lope, got that hock deep up under her, the rest did her good I think! And it sure was nice in there with no bug to bite us and the fans going full blast to keep it cool! They got out this afternoon, tons of fly spray on them. Just ordered a fly sheet for Paige, now she'll have her own. Indy has one all ready. And guess what, another storm coming across for tonight! Three nights in a row! UGH! CHARLIE KEEPS SHOES....
Good Morning, well the visit from the nutritionist was interesting to say the least...the good news is, I'm doing everything right as far as feed for Charlie. The bad news is, in order to go barefoot, here is what Marc does with his TB's, and before I try to explain this, keep in mind that this is a L O N G process, it won't happy overnight. He basically forces the hoof to become strong by OVER stimulation and corrective trimming, meaning, he lets them chip, he let's them bruise and even abscess if necessary, the over stimulation comes from the rigorous training, the pounding, the running, not just lolly gagging around the pasture. I know it sounds like cruel and unusual punishment, but it works for his racehorses. People at the track are always asking him "what is your secret? how can your horses run barefoot?" He said this is not for everyone, you must be committed to the work, and be prepared for the set backs, but when you get there you have a STRONG hoof. After a lot of thought, I realize, this is not for Charlie, he is not a working racehorse anymore, he is my pal, and it will be shoes for him. Have a great day, we left votes, Love Donna Lee

Trigger is still with us. I have had lots of interest in him. I had one family come to look at him but I discovered they wanted him for a lady to ride. I hope someone will want him for a child to ride. I am kind of partial to him going to a home with a child.

Hope you had an awesome 4th celebration.

Hi Sing & Herd, here's a vote for ya. It's another HHH day for us, heat index hit 96 today and real temp was 90! Got out early to lunge Paige, had to drag the outdoor, we got a heck of a storm last night at 10 pm. Major lightning and thunder with about 20 minutes of rain only, but the lightning lasted for an hour or more! Right over head. Anyhow, got her foot duck taped and lunged her, only the green heads and now giant horse flies were crazy from the humidity today. Mike to here around 2 pm and put her shoe back on. I left them in, bugs to bad, so everyone got a hay lunch today in front of their fans. They like their fans for sure! Indoor is really drying out nice, dragged that again and hopefully will be able to ride about 70% of it tomorrow morning. No bugs, no sun and cool fans overhead! Who's spoiled! LOL! Have another major thunder and lightning storm moving in on us, should be here about 9 pm this time. It just don't stop! Batten down the hatches! LOL! Love ya, Marion and the blondes.
