David Barrett, North Carolina: Interesting angle and good composition. The sharpness and emerald forest in the background add to the picture, but it still needs more story.
HONORABLE MENTION ENTRIES

Kelly Beard, Florida: This photo has a fantastic background, an interesting angle, and a good action story. It's a little dark though. Maybe some flash would have helped.

Christy Maxon, Kentucky: Nice panorama. This photo shows great action caught in duplicate, with a soft background and good use of light.

Sarah Starks, California: Beautiful background, nice action and creative silhouette. I would have cropped in more on just the single horse.

Vicki Foss, Minnesota: This image has a nice wintery feel and good focus (that can be tricky with snow). There's also a good off-center composition, leaving room for the horses to travel across the space.

Susan Austin, Maine: This photo tells a story of action and fun. I like the dramatic lighting, but I wish I could see more of the shadows on the beach. This is a small file that was probably taken with a point-and-shoot or a cellphone. It illustrates that you can take good pictures with simple cameras.

Susan Drover, Massachusetts: This is a very technically sharp eventing image. I like the shadow on the jump, but I wish the sunlight was directly on the horse to make the colors pop.

Jill Vaughan, Georgia: Nice action and good lighting, but this image could have been greatly improved if it had been cropped vertically.

Jennifer Kuipers, Arkansas: Beautiful backlighting and nice mane action, but this needed to be cropped in tighter and less centered.
