It's widely known that no two Paint Horses are exactly alike in their coat patterns, but the "Show Us Your Colors" photo contest sponsored by the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) proved just how different and unique equine markings can be. We received numerous images of markings with uncanny likenesses, plus, many unique spots and patches, and some really loud patterns. Here are the winners for the three categories--Most Unique Marking, Look-Alike Marking and Loudest Overall Coat Pattern--as selected by the APHA.

Most Unique Marking
Morgan McGarry of Iowa and her 3-year-old American Paint Horse, Shot of Black Pepper (Izzy).

Judges' comments: While every single horse in this category was beautiful, this striking tobiano Paint stole voters' hearts with his unusual coat pattern--ink spots and all (indicating he's homozygous), as well as his kind eye. But his one black leg amongst the other three white ones was what sealed the deal in making him our winner!

Look-Alike Marking
Lynette Marthaler of Wisconsin and her 14-year-old American Paint Horse gelding, Obcessed Powers (Sully), whose facial marking resembles a person praying.

Judges' comments: Obcessed Powers ("Sully") became known as "Holy Paint" during the voting. His unusual face markings in the shape of a person in a robe praying won him the most votes in this fun category. We were amazed at the detail shown on the "person's" face--even the nose!

Loudest Overall Coat Pattern
Beth Rose, Nova Scotia, Canada, and her black overo American Paint Horse yearling, Dazzle Me Sonny (Sawyer).

Judges' comments: This beautiful black overo Paint is the perfect combination of loud and proud! We just love his jagged markings and the sideways heart on his face. He epitomizes the APHA's saying, "Blending in is not an option!"
