Horsey Holiday Party

December 3, 2008

Before your barn buddies book their calendars for other activities, get them to save a date for a horsey holiday party. It’ll be a memorable occasion whether it’s an informal gathering in the tackroom, an open house where friends can drop by after their riding lesson, or a potluck dinner on a weekend evening. Be sure to include a gift exchange where attendees bring a modestly priced horse-themed present. That way everyone goes home (or back to the barn) with something they can put to use.

We do a secret stocking game at my barn. the last few days before Christmas, we hand a stocking outside our horse's stalls, and everyone drops a small gift in it like a new hoof pick, treats, or even something as large as a lead rope. last year I got thos small disc metal nametags made up for everyone to put on their halters or bridles. You can order them through horse supply catalogs or evern get the ones that you use for dogs! Everyone loved them!

a horsey holiday party could be anything but I would schedule it on a Saturday afternoon, after my lesson, and anyone whos there could go on a trail ride and take turns jumping the cross country course, then there would be fun games also we would have a horsey gift exchange in the snow. After that we would have a feast of whatever we feel like eating, and ofcourse treats for the horses.

An idea, at our barn we always did pick a name gifts. Instead of putting peoples names in it we put the horses names in it. Boarders to Boarders. You could give like a halter or treats for some ideas.
