Craft Your Horse into an Ornament

December 16, 2008

Recreate your horse in the form of a great tree ornament using simple arts and crafts productsWhether it ends up as an ornament on your tree or as an adornment for a package, you can create a colorful rendition of your favorite horse. Begin by purchasing an unfinished wooden cut-out of a horse at a craft or hobby store. They usually sell for about one dollar. Next, assemble an assortment of acrylic paints that match the horse’s coat color. Paint the toy horse’s body to match the real life animal, paying attention to details like white stockings and body spots. When your artwork is dry, add sparkle by dabbing on glitter glue in silver (for the hooves) and gold, copper or crystal white for the horse’s body and markings. You can embellish your holiday horse further by gluing on faux jewels to look like fanciful dapples. Once it’s completely dry, use your hot glue gun to affix a metallic bow to the underside of the horse’s body. Now your favorite horse will help make the holidays festive and bright!

Sounds like fun. Especially if you make the wooden cut out too.

I am always looking for crafts for when all my family's and friend's little ones come over for the holidays. This one is prefect!
Some crayons could work for the really little ones, too, so they don't get paint everywhere. Especially for my two-year-old niece, who's favorite word is "horsey." ;)

I'd love a whole tree decorated with horse ornaments. If I start now, maybe I can make enough for next year!
