This winter I'm going to bring back my 12-year-old Thoroughbred mare. I got her for my 12th birthday and she's taught me a lot in these last six years. Recently, she's been laid up, but she's finally sound enough to go back to work. After having to say goodbye to the 30-year-old Quarter Horse who's meant the world to her, I think she's ready for a change, too. I'll finally be able to make a dream come true and put her in a good training program with a wonderful trainer and amazing team of vets and farriers. My biggest goal is to take her to our first "real" show. We've never been to a rated show and I've always dreamed of having her braided and beautiful in a flat or hunter class. This mare is my best friend. She's been with me through a lot. It would mean the world to be able to finally put her in a bridle that is hers and actually fits instead of having to borrow one. Putting her in something of quality would be the cherry on top. Like most people in the equestrian community, we're not rich, but for me, a new pair of boots and a crisp, clean saddle pad would be a luxury that hasn't been possible lately. I can just see her bay coat gleaming in the jumper ring as she trots out in a clean pad that is actually ours, or warming her up in boots that aren't caked in sweat from other horses. It would just be amazing, to give her something nice in return for all of the loyalty and support she's given me for the last six years.

This show season (2014) my OTTB Bentley and I will be trying to qualify for the Marshall and Sterling Adult Jumper Finals and then move up to the Low A/O Jumpers going into the next season. Bentley is an unbelievable horse with incredible talent and has proved that a $500 horse can be just as competitive as the old schoolmasters and imported horses. He deserves the tack more than I do, and it would make him stand out more than he does now at the larger shows this year! Help us get to our dream of qualifying and being recognized!

After riding horses for 15 years and never being in a show, I'll be starting my first show season next spring on my brand new off the track Thoroughbred! Rainier has instilled confidence and newfound bravery in me, and I am eager to show off on the cross country course and the new tack will be just the perfect icing on the cake!
