America’s Horse Championships air Sunday

American Quarter Horses take center stage at 1:30 p.m. EST Sunday for the America’s Horse Championships.

American Quarter Horses take center stage at 1:30 p.m. EST Sunday for America’s Horse Championships, presented by Ford Trucks, on NBC Sports Television. This one-hour special is based on a portion of the FedEx Open competition at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show.

Cutting and reining, two of the most popular and growing events, will have a dominant presence in the show. Cutting will feature the junior competition for horses 5 years of age and under. Reining will highlight the senior competition for horses 6 years of age and older.

The program will include veteran sports announcer Tim Ryan and former jockey-turned reporter Donna Brothers, along with analyst AQHA Professional Horseman Robbie Boyce of Jacksboro, Texas.

Through an additional feature, viewers will be taken through a scenic trail ride in Virginia, where American Quarter Horses originated. NBC will also look back at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in a special segment presented by Fort Dodge.

After the show, viewers will have the opportunity to visit with junior cutting world champion Phil Rapp and senior reining world champion Craig Schmersal during a special web chat at 2:30 p.m. EST. Visit NBCSports.com and click the chat link to go directly to the site.

See aqha.com for special features about the American Quarter Horse lifestyle.

It's about time horse sports air on TV. They should air them as much as basketball, football and all the other sports. In my opinion controlling a 1500# animal with a brain of it's own is harder then controling a 2# ball with no brain.
