Keifer Sutherland: Actor and Cowboy?

Surprise! The star of "24" also has a knack for team roping.

For those of you keeping track of which celebrities can actually ride in real life and not just in the movies, add actor Kiefer Sutherland to your list. Currently starring in Fox TV’s series “24,” the Emmy award winner has also spent quite a bit of time in a western saddle. His first real introduction to riding came when he co-starred in the 1988 film “Young Guns.” He even bought the horses he rode in both that flick and its sequel. Then, Sutherland took a break after “The Cowboy Way” (1994) and polished his skills in the sport of team roping. Apparently his diligence paid off. Although Sutherland credits the outstanding quality of his roping horses to his success, he was talented enough to win the U.S. Team Roping Championships in 1998. What a sight that must have been, to stumble upon television’s eventual Jack Bauer as he traveled the rodeo circuit in a pickup truck.
