February 19, 2010

Morgan stallion in KentuckyOver the next few days, Morgan horse owners and enthusiasts will participate in the breed association's annual convention. This year, Lexington, Kentucky was selected as the host city because of the ongoing preparation for the World Equestrian Games in the city later this year. Lexington will also be the site of the new Morgan Horse Pavilion, currently under construction at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The annual meeting began on Monday, February 15 with committee and Board of Directors meetings. Activity for the membership began on Thursday with a tour of area Morgan horse farms and other equine attractions, including the future site of the Morgan Horse Pavilion.

Over the next two days, convention participants will have the opportunity to attend a variety of educational seminars, with topics including:

  • A guide to Morgan judging
  • USEF safety summit
  • Antique bits
  • Starting and maintaining a riding lesson program
  • AMHA Youth Programs
  • Foal conformation
  • Carriage turnout
  • Equine land and trail conservation

Other highlights of the convention include Friday night's award banquet, where AMHA's Man and Woman of the Year, Hall of Fame, Youth Person of the Year and other awards will be presented. The association will present additional awards at Saturday afternoon's awards luncheon, and the convention closes with a benefit auction and party on Saturday evening.
