Grants Available to Promote Land Conservation for Horses

ELCR and Breyer team to provide financial assistance to conservation groups.

Land for equestrian use is quickly disappearing--whether for riding, training, competing, breeding or growing hay. “The impending loss of open land for horse activities has reached crisis proportions,” says Deb Balliet, Equestrian Land Conservation Resource (ELCR) CEO. “Since 2000, economic, cultural, demographic and political forces have converted 13 million acres of rural land into subdivisions, malls, offices, roads, parking lots and resorts. In other terms, equestrians are losing 250 acres of open land per hour.”

Does your organization need financial help preserving land for horses and horse-related activities? The ELCR and Breyer Animal Creations® are offering funding for local conservation groups to protect land for equestrian use.

Breyer and the ELCR partnered to create a special model horse from which a portion of the proceeds will create a fund to help local conservation groups preserve land for horses and horse-related activity. Breyer has pledged a minimum donation of $10,000 to the ELCR.

Applications and information about grants created though this partnership fund are available online at www.elcr.org or at www.breyerhorses.com. The application is also available with the purchase of a Breyer ELCR benefit horse model, located in the custom-designed packaging.

Applications must be received by midnight Sept. 1, 2008.
