Remembering John Henry

A memorial service for the racing legend is scheduled for today.

John Henry, the legendary Thoroughbred racehorse who was euthanized October 8 at the age of 32, will be remembered at a memorial service at 2 p.m., Oct. 19 (EST) at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Hall of Champions. The public is invited to attend.

The memorial service, which is expected to last for one hour, will commemorate the life and legacy of the racing great. Following the service, refreshments will be available and special video of some of John Henry’s greatest races will be presented.

John Henry’s final resting place is near his paddock at the Hall of Champions. Other Thoroughbred champions buried at the park include Man o’ War, War Admiral, Forego, Bold Forbes, Allez France, Peteski and Jay Trump.

Parking for service attendees will be in the Park’s main lot. Allow at least 15 minutes to get to the Hall of Champions. Park officials will provide golf cart shuttles for those who are unable to walk.
